In memory of...

WARNING PARTS OF THIS INTRO MAY INCLUDE SARCASM

A thread for all those games that GW in their infinite wisdom have chosen to throw by the wayside or indeed have decided to improve for children to enjoy. Forge World can create a two hundred pound tank but WHQ just isn't viable.

Re: In memory of...

I too morn the loss of WHQ. It was a fun game while it lasted.
I would also like to mention Space Hulk, those blip counters were the best.
I do wish I was old enough to have played 1st edition Rogue Trader.

Re: In memory of...

Two of my most loved RPGs came from GW and I still play them today.

Golden Heroes and Judge Dredd.

And lets give a mention to Star Trek, Dr Who, Runequest, CoC and Lord of the rings

Re: In memory of...

That Warhammer Collectible Card Game, it was really good and my friends and I got hours of enjoyment from throwing money into an endeavor that was entirely of geekdom.

Also, that one game which was entirely ship based conflict. Norsemen were the coolest thing since gyrocopters.

Re: In memory of...

I just generally miss the days were Games workshop used to bring out a silly skirmish game every so often. Mordheim, Gorkamorka etc.

And I believe the fleet game was Man'o'war or something along those lines.

Actually I'll also mention Verminlords, just since it made 'How many greater deamons are there?'

Re: In memory of...

In reply to McGonigle (msg #7):

Man of War it was Man of War, I sent them hate mail for months when they killed off that game, they didn't even give it a chance, not even one expansion.  It was albiet and expensive box set, but for under 20 bucks you had a fleet, it came out just after EPIC, Man o War, I'll be dreaming tonight of my Orkish junkers and Dwarven subs.  Damn You <edit>, but the worst of all of them was Space Hulk, M(*&((&*&(*(ing Son of &%(%&#&#^*# skaven whore, how could you do this to your loyal fans.I have already mentioned the lack of marketing skills what so ever, but unless GW gets its act together it will continue to shrink in scope until it is entirely out of print.
All GW would have to do to re-invent all those side mission based games is follow the lead of the collectable minature market, hey I like to paint mini's I want my army customized, but you can just about the same thing to a Star Wars mini.  Speaking of Star-Wars, not only is Wizard of the coast brilliant with their marketing, they sell in a normal booster set, seven figures for 14.99, that is insane, yet it is still cheaper than most GW blisters.

Plus the fact Wizards of the Coast promotes the idea of three facets to the mini, one collect (a marketing strategy only surpassed in age by prostituion), two pieces used in a game, and thirdly pieces that can be used to represent characters for DH an WFRP.  F Mace Windu and Darth Vadar on the Toilet seat version, how about a ultra-rare Eisenhorn or an dwarf trollslayer.

Plus the idea of bringing back the side mission based games, it would be fairly simple to create character cards that could be used in both a game like Mordhiem and HeroQuest or any other WFRP game they wanted to come up with, the same goes for DH.  And can you imagine the amount of series of mini's GW could put out, the scope is staggering.

Then there is the matter probably most important, stop finally screwing gamers with the highest priced merchandise on the market.  You don't even need a starter pack to start playing Star Wars the minature game, you can download the rules, and their are plenty of sites with proffesionl quality maps free for the downloading.  But alas, we gamers will sit around and morn the dead games, maybe find a few on e-bay, although the ship has sailed, Warhammer has joined the pixel revolution and that is a ball you can not stop rolling.

Thanks Teddy, I had to lay that to rest before I started casting my own resin molds of terminator flamers along with hand made puzzle pieces displaying a hulk and melted down Monopoly hotels worked into the form of Genestealers.

Oh well I can't believe the amount of serious gamers that still actually exist, I should be thaking the Emperor. From one mournful heretic to the rest of the grieving soldiers of fortune I bid farewell.

ashes to ashes
