Re: GW Inspired Video Games

Yeah, I did notice that. But there are ways around that I have found, it is alittle unbalanced with all the other armies being pretty much shootie while the Tyranids are all stabbie.

Re: GW Inspired Video Games

Blood Bowl fans REJOICE, people have been waiting to see live action shots, but there are not that many, the game is going to be almost completely turn based.  Released in June,  with the possiblities with online leagues this game could be the last game I ever buy.  I'm am already naming my Ork Blitzers, and goblin fungus eating lunatics swinging around randomly thrown ball and chains attached to thier feet.

Re: GW Inspired Video Games

but do we want the game for fun or so GW can make a profit?

it's all about the fun, not about how many people buy this stuf (well, not for us at least)

In reply to Valthek (msg #15):

Read the interview with the game designer, they were all avid BloodBowl fans before they even got to pitch the idea.  Their letting, dirty tricks in, bribe players, mercs, all sorts of stuff, it can't be that hard to not screw up, they used the same graphics generator as fallout 3, so i don't know why people are already slamming the damn graphics, at least GW did SOMETHING.

Re: GW Inspired Video Games

In 2000 I remember on a three day drive from Santa Fe New Mexico to San Francisco in a U-haul truck pullying my sister's car, my brother and I spent the entire drive smoking funny cigarettes and customizing entire Madden Teams to represent a Blood Bowl like experience, I still have the 120 hand written pages filled with stats compiled to make up an Ork, Dwarf, Elvish, and Human and Halfling teams, just as Madden made it possible to completely alter the look and the 20 plus stats for each player.  It was October and we started entering in the data at the beginning of the World Series and were not done until game three.  We set the strength and injury prone settings at maximum differentials as to cause more pain.  Five minutes into game play we realized the whole project was an outright disaster and the biggest waste of time of my life, although if in San Francisco go to Big Foot Bar on Polk street, serves the best irish car bombs and the bartender if she is in will match you bomb for bomb, and drink almost anyone I know under the table.  This was our office, so for Teddy a new post request for haunts that inspire the Old world or a pub in Gun Metal City.  A travel and leisure section :).

Re: GW Inspired Video Games

I *LOVE* Warhammer Online.

I am a strategic thinker, so I love the idea of a game where you can do PVP against other people of similar power. I hate the gankfests of other PVP games where twinks with uber-gear rule.

Instead, I love watching as battle lines form in new emskrank. Quick raids from the enemies while wizards and preists cast from affar.

Warhammer Online feels very organic, I wish they had used the WHFRP career system instead of classes, but I understand why they went with what they did.

Re: GW Inspired Video Games

Lots of chatter about Space Hulk so it got me thinking to wayyyyyyy back.

Anyone remember this game?  I loved it!  I thought at the time that video game graphics had finally reached the point of being totally awesome.  I beat this game but due to the DUMBEST save system I had loads of trouble at the mid-way point.  You beat a level it auto saves.  There was no other way to save and by mistake I beat a level with one termie left.  It took me forever to beat the next level and get reinforcements with just one termie and I did not want to have to re-do all my progress and restart.  I could not fathom why the game was soooo cruel.

Fun stuff and I got my $$ out of it time and time again, especially when I was stuck and determined not to fail the Emperor.

I would love to see a new version with a decent save system and one where the termies you are not controlling at the time actually do something.  I hated switching back and forth to make sure jams were cleared and my boys were working the way they should.

Real Time Strategy.

You could pause the action and had some much tome to use for that.  Whatever Termie you were controlling worked a lot better than the computer ran marines and you could switch back and forth between them.

Re: GW Inspired Video Games

God I loved that game. I remember starting the game over and over just to get a cool set of names for the termies under my control.

I never got around to beating it, that library with the Chaso Marines whipped the piss out of me... I was prepubescent at the time, I think, so my grasp of tactics really was subpar. My favorite thing was to set up termies in overwatch positions, and then just slowly work through the map. You could have one termie follow you, and he would usually turn around in time to catch a genestealer who was coming at your back.

There was a lot of fun in the way you had to clear room to room.

Could you imagine having the same game tuned up for the 21st century? Character custimization, experience gains, sick graphics, mood-setting lighting, the sound of a genestealer's claws scabbling against air ducts overhead! Multiplayer modes!

I salivate!!!

Yup that would rock!

Oi!  <pokes game designer with a pointy stick> getcher butts in gear and make us a new game to spend $$ on!

I'm sure I'd need to get a new computer but that and Warhammer online would be enough to sell me on the idea.

Re: GW Inspired Video Games

I'm rather curious to see what they do with the 40k MMO they announced last year. I was hoping for a 40k version of Planetside (FPS), but it sounds like they're going for an RPG, so my guess is it'll be WAR with different graphics.

Re: GW Inspired Video Games

Yeah, i agree that a 40k MMO would fit more in the style of Planetfall. One planet, X contenders. Just imagine being three players commanding a Leman russ
Tanks rocked in Planetfall :D

Re: GW Inspired Video Games

I don't know, a 40k definately has the potential to be pretty groundbreaking. If they have you work up from a grunt level doing you're classic run and fetch quests to a commander where you get pitted up against other factions, it might be pretty interesting.

Get to a certain level, and you can create your own Space marines chapter, picking out what implants are generated and what geneseed you descend from, that would be pretty dope.

On the other hand, I'd probably get fed up seeing "Maximus Awesomus" running around in Ultramatine armour. Maybe a way to limit what type of name you can play as.

And then, throw in some Space Orks and you're freakin' mmmooonnnneeyy!!!

I'm really interested to see how Halo Wars is going to handle multiplayer combat, if that is any good, then we'll know that 40k has hope, since I can't see it being much different.

Re: GW Inspired Video Games

Had it been me, I'd have gone for a persistant world FPS like Planetside.

Imperial, Chaos, Eldar and Orks as the factions. Set it during the Black Crusade, so you have a logical reason for everyone fighting.

Different regions .. jungle, artic, desert, hive cities, underground caves and tunnels and orbital stations.

Probably do something like Planetsides skill points, where when you level up you get access to another skill point, and can buy the ability to use different weapons, equipment and vehicles.

No quests or missions. Just take the territory and kill the enemy.
