Re: GW Inspired Video Games

Recently I was playing Warhammer Online but stopped when they made me move server. The guild I was in which had built up a pretty good rep on Maikison just fell apart after the move. It was a really good looking game as well it's just a shame they messed up with the servers.

Also I can't wait for the new Dawn of War to come out. I hope it is as good as Company of Heroes.

Re: GW Inspired Video Games

Thanks for another thread request F.T.

I really want to play Warhammer Online but my laptop won't run it (pretty sure it won't anyway as it tended to over-heat playing City of Heroes) and I really don't have the time but I have heard all kinds of rave reviews from the players.

As was mentioned in an earlier thread "Fire Warrior" is awesome.  I'd play it through again but my PS2 is so ancient it is ready to be claimed by the Machine God like all faithful machines whose spirit's eventually fade.

I played and beat "Warhammer 40k: Squad Commander" for the PSP not too long ago.  It is a rocking turn based game that reminds me of X-Com.  Some of the missions are insanely hard.  My only beefs would be that you can carry sooooo many heavy weapons that "regular" space marines are non-existant, and that there could have been a few more choices or an xp system for managing to keep troops alive.  Still a great game.
****/5 boltguns.

The new Dawn of War is already getting mixed reviews from the beta.  I liked the first one, never played the second.

Me? Ohhh, I've played Fire Warrior, Dawn of War, Dawn of War: Winter Assault, Dawn of War: Dark Crusade and Dawn of War: Soulstorm, plus Dawn of War 2 Beta.

Re: GW Inspired Video Games

The beta, well, play Company of Heroes and you basically have played Dawn of War 2. To get it, you need steam which can be downloaded for free. Then you can download the beta for free as well.

Things I love about the beta are how heavy tactics are involved. For example, its a better idea to fight behind cover then to shoot in the open. Weapons can suppress now, meaning the unit suppressed takes more damage and moves slower. In addition, to reinforce your men, you need to be near your base/certain structures. Units can retreat to HQ, which means your men run towards your HQ faster than normal and take less damage.

Re: GW Inspired Video Games

I am currently playing both Warhammer Online and the Dawn of War 2 beta so I will toss in my two cents about both.

For Warhammer Online, I am really enjoying it. The game might not be as expansive as another game whose shadow covers the MMORPG landscape, but thats cause Warhammer Online is still new. I find the Public Quests, the Scenarios, the RvR all very satisfying in a way that other game just doesn't scratch.

For Dawn of War 2, it does take some adjustment in the way you play from the previous Warhammer 40k RTS. Units are smaller and tactics are more imporatant, as stated cover is almost necessary in some cases. With the Beta only being multiplayer, I am curious how the campaign will work on the game, I hope that there is one for each of the factions. Go Tyranids!! Consume that Planet!!
