My thoughts exactly. It kind of reminds me of Mechwarrior. We were playing the crap out of first edition and no-one had any interest in swapping to the "new and improved" version that no-one I talked to had anything good to say.
I am curious about WFRP 3rd....and that all Dwarf adventure sounds cool, but mostly for modifying. It's not like I don't have to mod every 2nd edition module anyway to account for players already playing parts of the adventures, an experienced group and large one at that=:) This message was last edited by the GM at 16:10, Thu 22 July 2010.
I advice to you, to try the 3rd edition (with its ruleset). It has very exciting rules I think. Be open minded and try it! I bet you'll find some rules very interesting also.
To run it every one needs access to the games custom dice and the jigsaw-board game things that your characterand party details are one and all the other little bits of things that com in the box. Without any of that you will need to do a shit load of book keeping and typing which is really just too much hassle on a forum.
So it is more a boardgame then a roleplaying game. With all the cards and custom dice and gameboard.
I am sure that they created a nice boardgame, but I do not consider it the 3d edition of wfrp just as I refuse to consider the 4th edition of DnD as a proper 4th edition of the DnD cycle.
They are turning a roleplaying game into something else.
It's not a board game... there is not even a board. Only data recording is solved with tokens and cards, instead of scribbling on paper and looking up tables, thats all.
