I advice to you, to try the 3rd edition (with its ruleset). It has very exciting rules I think. Be open minded and try it! I bet you'll find some rules very interesting also.

Aye, I quite like it too :)

I'd like to see how the new system works as well.

Re: WFRP 3rd edition

I'm already running 3 games (in 1 of them, actually 2 separate game is going), and playing in a lot. I don't have resources to start a new one.

Re: WFRP 3rd edition

Just to encourage some brave GM: I have just bought the 3rd edition set along with two expansions (or whatever they should be called =D ) and I'd be very interested to try it out. Though I have spent over a decade with the 1ed and all the time from the beginning with the 2ed, this new thingie seems very inspiring in a ... well, NEW way =D.

Same here, I read through the system and I am gonna run an adventure on Sunday. Bought the GM Expansion. Like the way it is going, taking into account how much my group had with Savage Worlds....

Re: WFRP 3rd edition

I have been playing since it arrived with my group, and we are now playtesting for FFG too.

It's a really excellent system (although with a few flaws and some bad layouts in some of the rulebooks), and FFG have some awesome stuff which I can't talk about in the pipeline!

The dice system is fantastic, and all of the cutout trackers etc are pretty much optional. Some of my group like having tokens, other don't and record it on paper a la a traditional RPG sheet- either works well. I would say that having cards is also useful as we hardly ever need to get the rulebooks out anymore. It's certainly worth a try for all WFRP fans out there. Combat is less 'whiffy', whilst still pretty deadly.

Would you run an online game?

I would do, but the custom dice haven't been created for RPOL, so I think it would be difficult in practice currently...

Re: WFRP 3rd edition

Not ideal for everyone to have to print screens really? Does it have the ability to email results or something? i looked at it earlier but couldn't really see anything that made it a standout resource that would make RPOL games easy...

If you can convince me it will work I will try and find time to create a game...

ah yes, i see. I'll see how much time I have over the next couple of days, the dark heresy game I am in is basically dead, so I might be able to stretch to GM'ing another game in addition to my 2ed game

Re: WFRP 3rd edition

Looks like a new line of books coming out in the WFRP 3 series. Of every publication there will be a guide version (a book) and a vault version (a boxed set) optionally for those who wish to play more traditional ways (guide books will contain tables instead of cards and rules to play without cards, tokens etc. Even of the core rules there will be a guide book.)
Those who wish to play the new type of RPG still can buy the vault lines containing everything on cards as until now.

Re: WFRP 3rd edition

As far as I know- it's not two ways to play- but two formats. One contains everything in a book/ table format for recording purposes, and one set includes the cardboard components which you will then be able to optionally add into your game if you decide that you would prefer having your action cards in front of you etc.

Re: WFRP 3rd edition

"Q: How about the GM's Guide?
A: If you own the Core Set, you'll not need the GM's guide to play WFRP. The GM's Guide, like the Players' Guide, does provide for detailed lookup tables for a number of game elements. For example, there are complete charts and tables for some effects currently managed by decks of cards, providing both a handy reference, as well as a means to play the game using more traditional means."

Re: WFRP 3rd edition

I'm afraid I'm a luddite and a doomsayer but it would take an awful lot for me to pay out that much money for Warhammer 3rd.  I checked the price in waterstones, quailed, and put it back on the shelf.

Re: WFRP 3rd edition

I feel similarly.  The cardboard components and their accompanying rules intrigue me, but not enough to convince me to shell out the kind of gelt they're asking.  So unless I can find a significantly discounted boxed set on eBay, it's unlikely I'll ever invest in it.

(But then, I've had to take a similar view on a lot of things: iPad, XBox 360, a new iPod to replace my battered old Classic...  I just don't have the kind of disposable income that would be required to buy these things, regardless of my degree of interest.)

Re: WFRP 3rd edition

You know there was another game that used cards and cardboard parts back in the day...

It was called Warhammer Quest. I bet there would have been a lot less anger and resentment if they'd just called it Warhammer Quest 2ed.

In reply to PsyckoSama (msg #33):

WFRP 3 has nothing to do with Warhammer Quest. By the way, If I was you I would check WFRP3, since it includes the modified financial system that you like to use.

Re: WFRP 3rd edition

In reply to Nagash_FFC (msg #34):

It doesn't have anything to do with WFRP either except they bolted the name on it. It's far more like Warhammer Quest.

And the economy in it is god awful. the 1-100-2500 ratio is utterly retarded.

Re: WFRP 3rd edition

In reply to OrtHodox (msg #36):

In 1st and 2ed edition the money is 1 crown = 20 shillings = 240 pennies, or 1 shilling = 12 pennies. I personally add 1 penny = 4 farthings to allow for pocket change, but that's just me.

In 3rd its 1 gold = 100 silver = 2500 brass, or 1 silver = 25 brass. They completely removed not only the coins names, but changed everything to something that makes pretty much no goddamned sense.

And Naggy, I read the rule books. I'm not basing this off blanket fan hate, just the vomit I was tasting in my mouth once I was finished that little bit of self-flagellation.
