Baron:
MILL, you're blaming Tyear for all the woes of the RPing industry. Video Games have done more damage than online piracy ever could do. Ever. I imagine Tyear is probably fond of the image of being the lord of all pirates, the epitome of all evil, and the scourge of modern civilization, but somehow I do not think that fits. He suggested downloading a limited release beta either way. It's not like he'll be cutting into any profit margins until the full release comes out.
Now that you're both upset with me, let's cut this out before Flakk gets a chance to see this convo. It will not end well for any of us. He's a scary, scary man...
Oh, I'm not upset with you, but I think you're misunderstanding my comments. I am suggesting that individuals such as Tyear, that either download illegally or advocate/assist in people downloading illegally, are
one of the contributing factors of prices for the stuff we all like being so high and we have to put up with DRM, not the sole reason.
Plus, it makes no difference whether it's a limited release or not - it's still a copyright work, he, or others like him, are not licensed to distribute the work, and the content was never free in the first place (though that actually doesn't make a difference to whether you're allowed to distribute it or not - it just makes it worse). The law is pretty clear on what that is called - copyright infringement/piracy. Wrap it up however you like, it is what it is.
I'm also pointing out that what he did, suggesting that another user should pirate the PDF, is in breach of the site rules, and that he should stop not only because it's disrespectful to suggest such a thing in the company of someone who is credited as being a contributor to that PDF, but could also result in the site moderators taking action against him. I might be wrong, but I'd assume he wouldn't want to run the risk of that happening.
Given that flakk has asked us to play nice, and the site mods are keeping an eye out for any suggestions that piracy, or assistance in carrying out piracy, took place on the site in this circumstance, I'm done now.
