Re: Forum Chat

Hmmmmmm.....1991.  Yup, that's when I first heard of Warhammer 40k and been hooked ever since.  Heading abroad I stopped playing and my Space Orks got very lonely but I joined up a Warhammer Fantasy game.  No more D and D for this guy!  Gritty and desperate PC's that could be brought low with a lucky hit seemed a lot more fun to me.  When DH came out I thought I died and went to heaven.  I've been waiting for this game since 1991!

Re: Forum Chat

I'm hoping that the continued success of the WH40k computer games will arouse more interest in the wargaming genre as a whole, but I REALLY want Blood Bowl to do well since it was my first exposure to G-dub. I definately dig the trailer, my fingers are crossed on this one and I hope it has appeal outside of its fanbase.

I can definately understand where Flakk is coming from about DH. I was just finishing up the Eisenhorn trilogy and I couldn't help but think that it would be a great source for roleplay when, boom!, down drops Dark Heresy.

I've been kind of burnt out on sunshine heroes skipping through the woods to do some absurd quest because a kindly wizard asked them too.

Re: Forum Chat

It makes you think, though, about games workshop and how convoluted their copyright laws must be, I have been literally waiting for a version of this game since the early 90's my first role-playing group came up with a home-brew system for 40k role-play, and I know a lot of other gamers who did too.  I would be my life the guys over at Dark Reign have been playing since the eighties, (the best fan site out there).  And yes the trailer is cool, but even better I have heard they are leaving in a turn by turn version to keep it as close to the real game as possible.  I heard this game will bankrupt Cyanide or it will make them millionaires.

Re: Forum Chat

Somewhat different story here.  I discovered Warhammer in '95 or '96 when I saw the core box in my FLGS (it was the one with elves vs goblins).  It took forever to actually get it because my parents refused to buy me a game which cost that much (and I don't blame them).  Once I finally did though, my brother and I got plenty of enjoyment out of that, and Necromunda as well.  Even when I found out there was a Warhammer RPG I didn't care much though, as I assumed it would be a D&D ripoff; it was only a couple years ago that I learned otherwise.  I'm now very glad that I did (even if I haven't played it as much as I'd like to by this point).

Side story, because I feel like telling it - a couple weeks ago I was running a WFRP with my tabletop group because our regular GM was unavailable.  There was only one fight during the game, but it went perfectly.  4 PCs vs 3 beastmen (slightly tougher than default stats), and the PCs took not a single point of damage between them the whole time.  It was a beautiful thing to witness.

Is anyone else excited about the new Dawn of War? Hopefully it will be as good as Company of Heroes.

Re: Forum Chat

For sure! The DoW always surprised me with how popular it was. I got such a kick out of seeing guys play the hell out of it who weren't the type to actually get into a games worshop store and see what it was all about.

Re: Forum Chat

Hi all Just joined the forum.

Well I've been roleplaying for over 28 years and came to the wonderful 40K universe via Warhammer when I bought (and still own) the white boxed set with the knight cracking the head off a skelly. (that dates me a bit)

The same time I bought that I got hold of a little set of rules called Spacefarers (which I still use) from Games Workshop it was an A5 size booklet that was the for runner for 40K.

When 40k came out I fell in love and collected a large Squat army. I then went to university and gave up wargaming but took up roleplaying. I'd always tinkered with running a 40k game using the traveller rules but never got round to it and went off to play star frontiers instead (again I still play that too)

When I heard DH was on its way I orderd two copies ( one is still unrapped). Now a days Real Life means I only get to play on line so at the moment I'm in volved with "Thru a Darkened Mirror", "Dark Heresy for Dummies" and "Free Companies" on this site.

I would dearly love to have the time to sit down round a table sometime and play it though.

Re: Forum Chat

We are getting a steady stream of users coming in. If possible try to spread the word. The more people we get in then the better this forum will be and the better the forum is then the more people will want to join. : )

Re: Forum Chat

I'm not sure the Dawn of War, thing surprises me. It's fundamentally a really good RtS which just happens to be set in the 40K world

Well I first got into Warhammer just before Third Edition 40K came out, (As my first 40K army was won from a competetion at the time of the launch.)

I first played WFRP in the first edition, in a number of online games, and brought the second edition almost as soon as it came out. Dark heresy was a far more recent purchsase and I have yet to really do that much with it.

Re: Forum Chat

Just a random thought, but would there be any possibility/interest in setting up a board where we could post NPCs from the different systems? Kind of like a database, or NPC bin, that GMs could use for inspiration or to handle those times when you don't have the stats for that one character who has now, inexplicably, become the center of the Player's interest?

Maybe to help others dissect it, it could be in the following format:

Name:
Concept:
Books Used:
Quote:
Background:

Stats: (in spoiler mode)

To avoid too much clutter, any discussion about the NPCs could then be ported over to their relevant game system board. For example, seeing a WFRP character Flakk came up with, I went over to WFRP: Discussion and started my post off with:

In regards to Bonko the Butcheress: I noticed that she had blahblah skill pairing, was there a way you used this in a certain situation, or does it reveal more about her previous careers?

Any thoughts? Personally, I find it can be a bit tiring to roll up 50 different NPCs to effectively cast a complex game...I'm really just motivated by my own laziness, which is a complete contradiction, I realize.

Re: Forum Chat

I actually like that idea, especially since I have difficulty matching up fights between characters and boss fights.

Re: Forum Chat

I think that's a brilliant idea!

If we made the board where people post NPC's they've created, we should have a wide mix.
GM! WE BE NEEDING A NPC BOARD PRETTY PLEASE!

What in the seven heavens is being "disallowed" in a game?
I'm thinking along the line of being booted?

Re: Forum Chat

Hey Furry Teddy, thanks for putting up those NPC banks. I'm kind of in the middle of figuring which system I'm going to run, which would naturally mean it would be a bad idea to post my NPCs, but I should get around to filling up one of them soon.

Just so you didn't think I was blowing you off or anything.

Re: Forum Chat

We've been bumped so hopefully a few more users will start coming in.

I'm thinking of changing the forum rating to mature. After all the DH and WFRP settings are dark and disturbing places and I think the thread's will start reflecting that.

Any objections? I don't think it requires an age check so all current users should be fine.
