"Imagine this world, where they could build buildings a thousand feet high...and travel around the world in under thirty hours...it is a modern world...similar to mine in some regard...They lost all their land animals decades before I got there...only the birds, the fish, and the insects remained...so they try to fix that problem...they increase their knowledge of the sciences...of medicine...then to add into the problem, their population is growing...it is too big...too many people are alive...their society is being strained..." Jesse paused and smiled, it was a shark's smile, predatory, he looked back down to his steak.
"...their solution...was to suppress any knowledge such animals existed and to replace them with random people they take off the streets..." There was a tiredness in Jesse's voice, he looked back to Jonathan.
"They make it so the taken can never walk on two legs or use their hands ever again..they take their voice...then they cut into their brain...they rob them of their mind, their sense of self, so they can not remember what they were before, or maybe not...they change them only just enough to give the illusion of a animal. Give them dog ears, a tail, reform their face with a muzzle, strength their body...perhaps change the skin color to mimic the color of fur...they declare them a dog ...then they sell them as a dog...a pet to be bought." Jesse sighed with melancholy.
"Now imagine that they can take anyone they want, randomly. Teens walking home from school, a young teacher caught in the crossfire...anyone under the age of thirty who is caught out in the open...who is fit and healthy...and instead of just dogs...they are turned into cats, sheep, cows, pigs, horses...exotics...and mundanes...that they have replaced nearly all their animals with lobotomized people...and made it so that the newest generations think that was how it had always been..." Jesse continued seriously, the melancholy is replaced with a cool detachment.
"Have you imagined all that? Now add unspeakable things done behind close doors...unspeakable things done in the open and even in the street..." Jesse slowly goes back to his food, taking a bite and sip of his drink.
"Have you ever encountered something like that?" Jesse returned, looking at Jonathan tiredly, the question phased and stepped with a detached curiosity.
