Re: Stan—Morothâ Assault

With only one Rutterkin left and four of them,  disposing of the remaining Rutterkin should be simple. Hennesey moves from the slain demon, to its live counter-part. Unable to charge back at it.with. other combatants in his direct path. But that doesn't stop him from attacking the putrid beast.

Move: Move to Rutterkin 2
Attack: Power attack[2] vs Rutterkin 2

19:24, Yesterday: Hennesey Rydell rolled 14 using 1d12+10 with rolls of 4.  Damage.

19:23, Yesterday: Hennesey Rydell rolled 24 using 1d20+8 with rolls of 16.  Attack vs Rutterkin 2 [pa2].

Re: Stan—Morothâ Assault

Round 5
Hennessey leaves the slain monster and wades into battle once more against the last remaining Rutterkin.  His attack is powerful, but controlled—and ultimately good enough to clip the demon.  It howls angrily as the mortal inflicts upon it a decent wound.
Demios' attacks do not stop, or even slow.  He continues to spin his double blade, cutting the Rutterkin at all angles.  He scores another fair hit.
Chubbs swipes at his demonic attacker once more, and again is able to stab the brute; but it still remains.
Stan lets out a heavy sigh as he watched the combat unfold before him.  From the looks of things, the other should have this last one dealt with pretty soon.  Presently, the young wizard thinks of how to activate the remote switch; but it doesn't take him long.  He makes a simple gesture, invoking a basic arcane cantrip.  In response, the bas-relief carving of the skull twists, dissolving the barrier, and clearing the way to the level above.
The Rutterkin continues to claw at Chubbs, and this time beats the smaller creature's considerable defenses.  The halfling suffers a mild would, added to the many cuts and bruises he has already suffered.

Round 6
Hennessey steps forward with his axe raised high above his head, ready to strike.  From there, it is all about timing.  He sees his opening...  Wham!  He cleaves the demon's head in two, straight down the middle.

End of Combat; XP awards pending...

Re: Stan—Morothâ Assault

Demois quickly turns from the fallen demon, as if to rush further up the stairs to the level above.  But he stops as he notices Stan's obvious wounds.
"Are you okay?" he asks as he tilts his head to the side.  "No doubt this will only get harder the closer we get to Morothâ's chambers at the top."  As he speaks, he looks at the others too, noting their wounds.  "We haven't time to rest, m'lord.  If you require divine healing, I might be able to summon a friend to help.  Either way, we must continue..."

Re: Stan—Morothâ Assault

Stan holds up a hand to keep Demios at arm's length. While the creature's concern is touching, his enigmatic references are somewhat off-putting.

"I think I shall be fine, if Porto feels like helping."

The wizard was perhaps a bit grumpier than usual, but the again this was both the Abyss and his mother-in-law's.

Re: Stan—Morothâ Assault

Demios offers Stan a slow shrug in reply.  Mortals were confusing creatures indeed.  They seemed to fear death more than anything else, and yet, for the most part, lacked foresight enough to prepare for times when Death came knocking.  And some—the "Righteous" mainly—even clung to the asinine idea that those of Demios' kin were untrustworthy.  But he wasn't insulted by Stan's rebuke, even in the slightest.  He knew the wizard was mortal after all and well aware of his own capabilities.  He'd seen men of greater power beg for their lives in situations much less dire.
Still, the demon reaches into his pouch and retrieves a good sized diamond; a flawless specimen and of size that a man could easily conceal it in the palm of his hand.  He tosses it to Stan.
"Take that, just in case.  I should have given that to you earlier.  Should you need it, toss it to the ground and say the command word, 'Beryoxb'.  He owes me a favor and the gem will call him forth.  Use it wisely, as the summoning process will destroy the stone."

Chubbs, hit me with some of those beautiful CLW rolls...

Stan nods to Demios in thanks for the stone.

After the Wizard's wounds close and the pain subsides, he thanks Porto. "Some magic even we wizards cannot fathom," he says in reference to the miraculous bliss of sudden healing.

I'll take one tap. Hennesey is fine, but being the only fighting pc, as close to max hp is helpful lol.

Re: Stan—Morothâ Assault

The climb to the next level is much shorter than the last.  However, they are surprised to find that this level is on fire!  From the look of this floor (which is similar to the laboratory level) it is a library—a smoldering library.  An iron gate of considerable strength blocks your advance to the level above.  Situated in the center of the gate is a large, living eye.  The iron is cold to the touch.

Porto considered the eye for a moment. Waiting to see if it responds to Stan's inquiry. If not, Porto casts "light" and pokes at the eye infusing magical energy into it.
