Re: OOC Chat

I think it's obvious that Jon should in no way go searching for Lord Fetchin. Obviously the guttersnipe's tip is a setup, or at best a glob of misinformation.

Best course for Honest Jon is to set sail across the ocean to a completely different adventuring milieu, possibly even a portal to another campaign setting. The DM should have no problem running both at once.

How are you liking it so far, Honest Jon? Sorry that Stan can be a bit of a jerk to strangers. I promise he's a nice guy once you've been through a few combats together.

Hello all,

I am not dead, just super busy with a collision of home and work stuff, so if you want to game without me (NPC Stan for awhile), feel free. I will be back around Thursday/Friday for sure, possibly earlier.

I like Honest Jon Captain Honest Jon, and I like where this adventure is going, but I see no reason why the party would sign up for this sailing contest. In good humor, I say, choo choo, all aboard the railroad.

Re: OOC Chat

I will admit that it is a bit railroady, but I am trying to get Jon into the story. I figured it might be forgivable in that regard. Although I try to keep most of the game motivations buried in the in-game threads, we might all be better served talking about this out of character instead.
The Challenge of Champions is an adventuring competition being put on by the Witchwardens, and sponsored by an enigmatic guild known as the Seekers. I have been trying to drop story bread-crumbs for a little while, hoping that the Challenge would be something Stan found interesting before Jon even joined the game. As they are, here are some of the things I've been working on regarding Stan's involvement:
  1. The Witchwardens want Stan to join their ranks or quit practicing wizardry within the city limits. Expect them to approach him regarding the Challenge, and possibly joining their guild.
  2. The Jade Ravens (particularly Tolin Kientai) have taken issue with Lavinia's new chosen adventuring group. Expect Tolin to challenge Stan's group to an extra "friendly" competition.
  3. The Wurmfall festival is in full swing! This portion of the adventure path will be used as "downtime" for Stan, allowing him to craft items, purchase/sell items, and/or work on personal and side quests before the next adventure begins. Further, the festival should serve as a way for the GM to show the PCs that Sasserine is a living city.

If the Challenge of Champions really isn't something Stan would be interested in, or if he should choose to resist the hooks above, it's okay. I am planning things, but know that you don't have to bite.

Regarding Jon, he also has reasons for participating in the Challenge of Champions, and seeking out Stan and his group:
  1. Due to circumstances seemingly beyond his control, Jon owes a large debt. The Whaler’s Guild, with whom he's had good dealings, has decided to cover his monetary debt if he puts up a team to represent the guild at the Challenge.
  2. Jon's background is shrouded in secrecy, however he's earned a reputation as a dependable Shipmaster among the guild masters. Despite the fact that he's made Sasserine his port-of-call for the last 10 years, he knows very little of the city, and vice versa. Winning the Challenge would undoubtedly help his social status.
  3. The prize money would help him secure another ship.

Re: OOC Chat

During this downtime we should finalize arrangements for any unclaimed loot.

If possible, Stan will probably try to buy an Occulus (from the Factory thread) and identify everything, then sell off what the party doesn't want to keep.

Well if it will help our team win the challenge, there's at least an in-character justification for it. Plus you can always swear fealty to me and become my eternal vassal.

Re: OOC Chat

Stan, the wooden crown isn't magical. It's a worthless piece of wood with seven very valuable moonstones inset. It needs an appraisal.
I've updated the Party Loot thread to better capture what is left unclaimed, what needs identified, and what needs appraised.

Re: OOC Chat

So out of character huddle:

Are we going to be able to afford an occulus? Because it's more expensive than most of the items we have, although not necessarily more expensive than all of our spare items combined.

I am willing to trade away the less essential items, but I want Jon's input.

Nevermind, I just realized we could get 400 scrolls of identify for the same price.

Re: OOC Chat

Okay I did not want to be an A-hole and bring this up before, but Pathfinder doesn't actually have periapts of wisdom.

I thought they just changed the name from "periapt" to "headband", but the name change was because the item also got moved from neck slot to headband slot. Perhaps that was obvious if you know what a periapt is, which I didn't.

So do we have a necklace, or a headband?
