Re: OOC Chat

In all honesty, no buttering-up intended, I have to say I have really been enjoying the challenge of champions. Specifically, I like that it requires tactical thinking and creative roleplaying, but doesn't ask us to slog through round after round of combat.

In reply to Stan Fetchin (msg # 434):

Thank you! I can't take credit for the Challenge of Champions, as I saw it in a dungeon magazine. A few of the scenarios I took and tweaked a bit, and some are originally mine. But I always liked the idea of a challenge where level and ability don't factor. It seems like a lot of players do this anyways at the tables, and DMs tend to get defensive about it. I always thought creative solutions were in the wheelhouse of adventurers.

Did anyone else see the name of the achievement and hear the Meat Loaf Julian Austin song?

Re: OOC Chat

I've just become aware that Rex's surname and Gé's true name are too similar. This was unintentional. I've corrected my notes and will be editing Clementine's mention of Gé's true name.

Sorry about that.

Re: OOC Chat

Strange coincidence, but not a problem. I really like some of the broader multiverse-building that you've been doing. The hints are starting to come together in a way that makes some sense, but still maintains a pleasing mystery. I also like when and how you've been dropping said hints - it never seems forced, since the name-drops are usually coming from an actual planar traveler.

Clementine feels sort of like the guy who's always flying somewhere for business and is always like "Last time I was at O'Hare..." only it's "Last time I was at the Tarterian depths of Carceri..."

Edit: One last thing. If Oblia is going to be an Atlantis pastiche, please throw in some Orichalcum items in this game.

Thank you! This story is but a single story both in Stan's life, but also the wider multiverse. I'm glad you appreciate it.

Re: OOC Chat

After Tolin upped the bet to 1,000 gp, the other teams couldn't pay. They decided to cut your team and the Ravens out of the pool so they could continue. Despite this, Tolin is making the Ravens pay out. The money is from the entire group, for your team.

Also, my intention was to give an identify scroll to Rex. Did that go down? If so one of us should delete the scroll from the tracker.

Re: OOC Chat

Um... short answer: yes.

Longer answer:
Although I've had your Rep score visible on your sheets since Kraken's Cove, I had originally intended for it to be used during the Interlude (after you hit level 6). However, I am man enough to admit that I mismanaged the shit out of the Challenge and wider Wurmfall Festival events that it never became practical to reveal its use to the players until after having reestablished my grip on things.
The score serves two purposes: A guide for me to know how an average person might interact with your characters; and a point system for your characters to use to "purchase" temporary social favors.
I will get a list of options one might be able to purchase from posted by early next week. You shouldn't need to use it during this scene in the Opera House, however it will be useful in the upcoming adventure.

I don't think there's any reason that Stan would know about the Isle of Dread, is there? Is it something he should roll for? If it's okay with you I'm just going to say he's never heard of it.

Re: OOC Chat

Funny story from my childhood--
In seventh grade, a rather obnoxious popular kid in my class made almost this exact mistake on a presentation about what he wanted to be when he grew up. He wanted to be a rapper. As something of the class outcast, I was delighted that no one ever let him live it down.
I suppose this is some sort of just dessert on my part, heh? Doesn't quite compare with the whole class, but I guess this is probably a little of what he felt.

Given that some time has lapsed RL and we've been in this interlude for awhile, I would not have a problem jumping ahead to the "adventure proper" unless you have a pressing reason not to.

Re: OOC Chat

I understand completely. The only reason I haven't just jumped into it yet is that I want to give you and Jon a chance to prepare for the voyage. As you can imagine, there will be encounters and other hardships during the journey that cannot be avoided. However, there will also be some additional random encounters and events that you might be able to have advantage over (or circumvent entirely) with the proper preparations.

That said, I can also fast forward a little bit and we can split hairs later on.

Re: OOC Chat

I'm trying to have fun as a player while still playing Stan in character. He's the kind of person who would probably just keep quiet most of the time and let the others talk, but as a player I think it will be more fun to mess with Emil a bit.

Stan's not necessarily against that sort of thing, as Emil is slimy and probably evil. I feel like Lawful Neutral still leaves room for a sense of humor, especially if the butt of the joke lacks in taste or orderly sensibilities.

Plus, Stan has been hanging around a lot of bad influences lately. His alignment could shift if you see his behavior changing.

Re: OOC Chat

I'm not worried. Stan is also incredibly intelligent, and he's bound to get into antics now and again. Besides, goofing with someone isn't evil.
You'd have to consistently be doing evil shit before we begin to have the talk about an alignment shift.
