KICKS
Aura moderate transmutation; CL 8th
Slot feet; Price 8,000 gp; Weight 1/2 lb.
Description
These ragged, leather boots look like they've seen better days. The leather has obviously been dyed black, the toes are horribly scuffed, and the soles are worn. However when put on the are quite comfortable and fit nicely.
The magic of these boots is two-fold. First, they allow the wearer to "kick" open chests and doors at a distance of 10 feet. The wearer may attempt to break locked chests and doors, gaining a +4 circumstance bonus to the check.
Finally, the wearer may also preform the bull rush combat maneuver from a distance of 10 feet. The wearer gains a +4 circumstance bonus to CMB, but cannot move with the target.
Construction
Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, open/close and bull's strength; Cost 4,000 gp

Inspiration - Various. Link kicks open chests in many of the Legend of Zelda video games, which I always thought was interesting. The benefits of opening things at a distance in D&D is obvious, although the application didn't come to me until after playing with a good friend for several years. I think he ultimately inspired me to create the Kicks. His approach to the rules can sometimes be overwhelming, but we always have fun.
When I first revealed them in-game, I described them as having the initials G.R. scratched on the inside, a tribute to my friend's legendary character, Gregory Ryans.

SKY KING'S DECODER RING
Aura faint transmutation; CL 1st
Slot ring; Price 3,800 gp; Weight --
Description
This augmented version of a ring of feather fall once belonged to the intrepid adventurer known only as Sky King. Although tales of his exploits are wild and complex, the functionality of his trademark ring isn't. In addition to functioning like a normal ring of feather fall, Sky King's decoder ring grants the wearer a +4 circumstance bonus to linguistics when trying to decipher cryptic messages.
Construction
Requirements Forge Ring, feather fall and 4 ranks in linguistics; Cost 1,900 gp

Inspiration - 1950's Sci-fi radio programs. I love listening to old time radio programs, especially sci-fi and thriller/detective stories. Podcasts of the original run of Space Patrol include period commercials, chiefly Rice Chex morning breakfast cereal. Targeting children, the commercials routinely include prize giveaways, like Commander Corry's and Cadet Happy's decoder rings.
With the release of Pathfinder's Occult Adventures sourcebook, I couldn't help but create this item.

PLAGUE BRINGER CLOAK
Aura faint conjuration and transmutation; CL 9th
Slot shoulders; Price ? gp; Weight 1 lb.
Description
This brown cloak is embroidered with the dried husks of locusts. Wearing this cloak might seem to some more than a bit unfashionable, or even gross. But the power of the plague bringer cloak more than makes up for any attack against the aesthetics.
Three times per day, the wearer may transform into a swarm of hungry locusts and fly up to 30 feet in any direction. The swarm can only move in a straight line, and must end in a square the wearer could see prior to transforming. All living things in the line take 5d6 points of damage. Upon reaching the square, the wearer returns to corporeal form.
Construction
Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, jump and summon swarm; Cost ? gp

Inspiration - Hero's Call mobile game. One of the classes in the game is the Plague Bringer, which is a cross between a druid and sorcerer. One of his powers inspired me to create this item.

New Drug
MANA
Type ingested; Addiction minor, Fortitude DC 11
Price 25 gp
Effect restore one 1st level arcane spell
Damage 1d4 Con or 1 Con (see text)

This blue liquid crackles and sparkles with some inner light. Sold in and around wizard colleges as a potion, this drug is becoming quite popular. Despite its practical applications, prolonged usage can be dangerous, and is usually illegal.
Made almost entirely of pure residuum, addiction results in a need to consume magical substances. In lieu of consuming additional doses to avoid taking Ability damage, the addicted may consume any magical potion of arcane origin to reduce the damage to 1 Con.

Inspiration - Various. I thought this might be an interesting addition to the game.

***Disclaimer - I do not advocate, condone, or support the use of illicit drugs in any way, shape, or form, recreationally or otherwise, period.

CONTAINMENT CLOTH
Aura moderate abjuration; CL 7th
Slot none; Price 40,000 gp; Weight 1 lb.
Description
This ornate circle of cloth acts as a portable summoning circle.
When unfolded, this circle of thick tan cloth has a diameter of 5 feet. While one side is blank, the other is a mishmash of runes and arcane symbols sewn in crimson, blue, black, and sparkling gold thread. Around the edge, thick lines enclose further densely-packed pictograms depicting tiny stick figures summoning crude animalistic shapes.
When laid flat on a roughly horizontal surface, the containment cloth becomes a portable summoning circle. Once engaged, the circle remains flat and active until deliberately peeled off the surface and refolded.
Any monster summoned into the center of the containment cloth is immediately subjected to a dimensional anchor spell, while four permanent magic circle (against chaos, evil, good, and law) spells focused inward bind any creature with the appropriate descriptor to the center of the circle until such a time as the user releases it.
Construction
Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, dimensional anchor, magic circle (against chaos, evil, good, law); Cost 20,000 gp

FAILSAFE RING
Aura faint conjuration; CL 1st
Slot finger; Price 800 gp; Weight --
Description
This ring ensures the wearer's defensive spells are in place at crucial moments, helping counter unexpected attacks and preventing tragic workspace accidents.
This steel ring is blank and smooth except for the crown, which traditionally bears a stylized red cross on a white background. The inside surface is pebbled with tiny nodes that detect stress and shock in its wearer.
A failsafe ring monitors is wearer's condition at all times. If the wearer takes damage, it automatically activates. This effect cannot be avoided without first removing the ring--the ring activates even if the damage kills or renders the wearer unconscious, but it does not activate in time to affect the damage source that activated it. It can also be activated manually by twisting the ring clockwise (a standard action).
This effect can only be activated once per day; and will not activate if the wearer is already under the protection of the spell it provides.
Upon activation, the failsafe ring bestows the benefits of a mage armor spell on its wearer, as if cast by a 1st level wizard. The benefit lasts for the full duration, even if the ring is removed.
Construction
Requirements Forge Ring, deathwatch, mage armor; Cost 400 gp
Variants The most common variation casts shield, but the concept itself is a simple one and has been occasionally extended to include such defensive spells as blink (12,000 gp; CL 5th), fire shield (22,400 gp; CL 7th), and invisibility (4,000 gp; CL 3rd).

OCCULUS
Aura faint divination; CL 1st
Slot eyes; Price 10,000 gp; Weight 1 lb.
Description
These arcane goggles offer a quick and convenient way for the wearer to identify magic items.
These steel-studded, black leather goggles attach to the wearer with a thick, workmanlike strap. Only the thin ruby lenses separate these goggles from something a blacksmith or metallurgist might wear.
To activate the goggles, the wearer must slide the apparatus over his eyes and study the magic item in question. With it clearly in view, he must then focus his eyes solidly on the tiny rune engraved into each lens for 1 round, triggering the effect. The goggles may be used up to five times per day, and do not require the user to be able to cast spells.
Construction
Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, identify; Cost 5,000 gp

Inspiration - Dragon magazine #350

NUMON'S OWN EXOTIC SPICES
Aura none (see below); CL 2nd
Slot none; Price 200 gp; Weight 2 lb.
Description
A small spice rack containing a few vials of mundane-looking cooking spices.  In fact, this item doesn't radiate a magical aura, and may otherwise be overlooked as worthless to most adventurers. However, this item carries with it a powerful, yet subtle enchantment.
Once per day, the owner may attempt to trade Numon's Own Exotic Spices for an item owned by another. Numon's Own Exotic Spices grants its owner advantage (roll twice, keep highest) when trying to convince the other party of the immense value of Numon's Own Exotic Spices.
All attempts to appraise Numon's Own Exotic Spices automatically fail.
If consumed, Numon's Own Exotic Spices is destroyed, but provides fantastic flavor to any food.
Construction
Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, misdirection and magic aura; Cost 100 gp

Inspiration - These spices are the best, okay? The absolute best spices. You're gonna love these spices, believe me. You're really gonna like 'em. They were voted best spices by six of Numon's closest friends.

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)

GOLDWATER BERRIES
Aura divination; CL 2nd
Price 200 gp; Weight -- lb.

Description
These magical berries are steeped in pure water and undiluted gold. Orators prize them for their power to enhance one's elocution.

The imbiber will feel an overwhelming compunction to wax eloquent on the political state of his or her nation. The result is often overwhelming failure for his or her political party.

I am going to talk of controversial things. I make no apology for this.

You and I are told we must choose between a full BAB or spell progression, but I suggest there is no such thing as a fighter or a mage. There is only an up or down.

Public servants say, always with the best of intentions, "What greater service we could render if only we had a little more GP and a little lower THAC0.

Are you willing to spend time studying the issues, making yourself aware, and then conveying that information to family and friends?

If all of this seems like a great deal of trouble, think what's at stake. We are faced with the most evil enemy mankind has known in his long climb from the swamp to the stars. "There is something going on in time and space, and beyond time and space, which, whether we like it or not, spells duty."

You and I have a rendezvous with destiny. We will preserve for our children this, the last best hope of man on earth, or we will sentence them to take the first step into a thousand years of darkness. If we fail, at least let our children and our children's children say of us we justified our brief moment here. We did all that could be done.

If imbibed by a mediocre actor, there is a 32% chance he will eventually be elected as the supreme leader of his country.
