Re: Muppets

Hmmmm

Become an evil cyborg who cannot see or feel with his own body & rule the galaxy...

OR

Remain good, fight for the little guy, and retain your own sensory organs.

Seems like a valid and easy choice to me...

THREAD NEARING 1,000-POSTS LIMIT

Became curious. Wikipedia:

The Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) is a dwarf galaxy.[3] It is classified as a dwarf irregular galaxy. It has a diameter of about 7,000 light-years[4] and contains several hundred million stars.[5] It has a total mass of approximately 7 billion times the mass of the Sun.

Let's say 500,000,000 stars. 100,000,000 habitable planets. Spend a minute ruling each planet, including gating from one to the next.

60 planets per hour. 720 planets per 12-hour workday. 4,320 planets per week with one day off. 216,000 planets per year with a two-week vacation. Just over 463 years to rule them all.

I'm not an astronomist, but I'm guessing 1/5 solar systems having habitable planets is a tad optimistic.

Re: Muppets

So guys, just letting you know right now. I was dissatisfied with my character's name, so I asked Ben to change it for me. I'll now be known as Roald Der Wuld. It translates to "Famous Leader of the Forest." That should be a clue as to how my character works.

He wouldn't have had to become a cyborg who couldn't see or feel with his own body. That only happened to Vader because of his fight with Obi Wan on that lava planet.

Re: Muppets

Rita:
Was the portal really tied to the River Styx? The River Styx is not located in the Abyss; it is in the Underworld, which is Pluto's domain.

I think, in D&D's cosmology, the river Styx was described as running through all of what was referred to as the Lower Planes. (One of which was called Hades, if I recollect.)

"The Styx" is sort of the generic "River of Evil", in many fantasy settings.

But, mythologically speaking, you are fully right, Rita.   It was specifically (and solely) a part of Hades/Pluto's underworld.

I know Ben pulls a good deal from mythology;  however, the Abyss, (in the way it's used here) isn't derived from mythology, but rather from the D&D cosmology.  And thus has some grounds for having a portion of the Styx flowing through it.

It's Ben's call how it work out here, exactly.  Would be interesting (and probably useful) to know.

Rita:
As for the Star Wars reference, Vader actually said he and Luke would rule the galaxy (that far away one) as father and son, not the entire universe.

In a game I used to run I used to use the River styx like the astral plane's portals. The River styx can take you anywhere if you know where you're going. If you paid the Riverman Charon he would take you to any plane.

[Arctos and Heolstor sneak into an infernal fortress disguised as Huns, intent on rescuing the Frisian princess. They fight their way through the security detail in the dungeon, only to be hailed on the room's demonic crystal ball. Heolstor answers the crystal ball after comandeering the dungeon.]
Heolstor: [sounding official] Uh, everything's under control. Situation normal.
Demonic Voice: What happened?
Heolstor: [getting nervous] Uh, we had a slight ballista malfunction, but uh... everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here now, thank you. How are you?
Demonic Voice: We're sending a horde up.
Heolstor: Uh, uh... negative, negative. We had a dragon fire leak here now. Give us a few minutes to lock it down. Large dragon, very dangerous.
Demonic Voice: Who is this? What's your operating number?
Heolstor: Uh...
 [Heolstor slices the crystal ball]
Heolstor: [muttering] Boring conversation anyway. ARCTOS, WE'RE GONNA HAVE COMPANY!

OOC–  Well, if there's like more than two still standing, I say hit'em again!!

I'm reminded of a song from my much younger years in which we joyfully sang a song from the "Cynagua Sampler", a homemade tape of SCA bardic songs (mostly filk) from the Sacramento, CA area.  In which we proclaimed loudly, "Don't leave two stones still together go and knock 'em down!"
