Some of you may be familiar with the term 'Parking in driveways and driving on parkways'. I read a book recently that did shed some light on this. New Jersey, known as the Garden State has many parks. And, folks, some (ok many) years back, had the idea of putting roads in the parks thus naming them 'park ways'. Well, fast forward many years and now with the huge number people living in a mega-suburbia and while roads through parks do still exist the terminology as all but been lost. Some of those park ways were converted into highways and interstates though the Garden State Parkway still retains its name though it's anything but a drive through the park. Probably should be renamed the mighty Toll Way, Traffic Jam Way, or something like that.

In a similar but different vein, my hometown is overlooked by a hill - the Law Hill. But in old language, Law meant 'hill'. So effectively it's called the Hill Hill.

Petra and Tugdual - apologies, I disappear every so often... But this was a rather extended absence without explanation.

I wouldn't say I'm a transient!... BUT... My career does force me to switch between field research stations on a somewhat frequent basis. This current one leaves a few things to be desired (including internet access). I've driven to town and am currently posting out of a cafe. Will do so until I find my way to a research station with internet.

I'm afraid that I'm going to have to cut back on the characters I have in this game. Since the move, work has been more involved and I expect it to ramp up further in the next few months.
