Re: Experience and Character Advancement

So, if I'm reading that right, with M-Int 1, I can have 4 style specialties.  That seems to make sense, but I've gone over it a few times and I'm finding the guidelines on the number of style maneuvers I can take a little vague.  I think it reads that you can have a maximum of 5 style maneuvers:  You get three from the starting style maneuvers, then with each additional specialty spent in that style you get one choice from the bonus maneuvers list.

If that's the case, firstly; it strikes me as hardly being a mastery of the style with just 3 basic and 2 bonus maneuvers, and secondly; it doesn't seem to say how you get the advanced maneuvers.  It says how much they cost but not how you qualify to take them or how many you can have.

Now, it could be that I'm just having a lunkhead moment and I'm missing something, but a little clarification would be much appreciated.

Re: Experience and Character Advancement

If I recall correctly you can take as many advanced techniques as you care to, it's just a matter of xp and whether you meet the prerequisites.  Doesn't matter if they're linked to your martial art.  It just costs less if they are.  It's not the best explanation, but the advanced techniques section on page 98 of The New Flesh sort of clears this up.

Re: Experience and Character Advancement

Ok, did a little tally of XP.  I have about 158 xp points to spend.  I haven't looked at the new supplements yet, thought I'd get suggestions from everyone first, since I'm not so great with the crunchy stuff.

Here's what was on my list previously:

Mega-Dex 5 + pretty much all techniques
Mega-Strength 1
Weather Manipulation 5(need a different technique here because the last one in the book is basically fly.)
Boost
HyperMovement
Shroud

I'm thinking about adding another dot of Mega-Int and maybe upping my base stats?

Also, the point of taint from this latest thing brings me to 6.  My current aberrations are Claws and Wings Permanent and Blue Hair.  Technically, I've been writing her like she has an anima effect, too.  Do I need to pick up another aberration?  If so, I think it's about time for her to start picking something less superficial, maybe a mental aberration.  I was thinking an allergy or phobia.  Suggestions?

Re: Experience and Character Advancement

I'll wait to make suggestions on other stuff until others get a chance for others to reply, especially the aberrations.

That said though, you have my permission to take shroud as a Technique for Weather.  Fog and precipitation and the occasional electric surge make for difficult vision, no?

Also, like I told 'Kaze, if you aren't on chrysalis, you might use connection to up your base atts.  Up to you, since you were thinking about moving a darker, less connected direction after the ties that bind events.  A lot has happened since then though.

Re: Experience and Character Advancement

Looks like everyone's mostly squared away on where they want their characters to go.

To Solitaire:

Hardbody is the enhancement you want to avoid agg damage.  Soak agg with your lethal soak for one quantum, reflexively spent.  It seems appropriate given the unstoppable force motif that goes with everything Solitaire does.

Dimensional shenanigans could be good.  Very good in fact.  If Superman could punch dimensions and time, than surely Solitaire should be able to.

To Gale:

All of these things look good.  All of these powers follow nicely on the character development that you've been building.  Gale's withdrawing from humanity, tired of trying to please them and trying to fit in.  Even Utopia is turning out to be manipulating and cruel.  All because of their fear.

So get to Mega-Dex 5.  Learn how to catch bullets and fly across the world in hours.  Get an enhancement for weather manipulation that lets you build on this:
-- as an idea that stood out to me, grab Animation from Molecular Manipulation to make your own friends.  Some cloud people, wind bears or fog bunnies.
-- or grab the Adaptation enhancement for MegaStamina so you can fly into space and elsewhere.
-- Grab a technique for weather manip that lets you build and sustain atmospheres.  Teraform other planets and name them for yourself.

Re: Experience and Character Advancement

Decided to go Chrysalis.  Every betrayal just shoves her further and further away from humanity, so it seems appropriate.  Comstock told me there is going to be a time skip, so she should have time to spend in a cocoon.

Previously had 2 dots in Allies, never been used.  Trading in for two dots in Node.
Remove strength/weakness from Mega Appearance.

  158 To spend
-   6 Resources 1 to 3
-  21 Mega Dex 3 to 5 (Chrysalis)
-  21 Int 3 to 4, Mega Int 3 to 4 (Chrysalis)
-  27 Wits 3 to 4, Mega Wits 2 to 4 (Chrysalis)
-   6 Mega Strength (Lifter Enhancement)
-  20 Weather Manip 4 to 5 (Chrysalis) (Adaptability as suggested by Comstock)
-  20 Remove 2 dot Perm Taint (Chrysalis)
-   5 Enhanced Movement (Dex Enhancement)
-  15 Hypermovement 3 (Chrysalis)
-  15 Density Control Decrease 3 (Chrysalis)
-------
    2 xp left over

Edited to correct math issues.

Yes, to be clear (and this should come as no real surprise) after all this chaos there will probably be a year of time-skip or so as things settle.  That will get us to 2008, where Aberrant canon begins.

We've almost made it!

Re: Experience and Character Advancement

In reply to Gale (msg # 520):

All of that looks good EXCEPT:

Resources: don't spend xp on that, you have it free of charge.  Really, anyone other than new players have resources 3-4 for free.  Except Dragon, because serving your country never pays well (he took some flaws), and even he isn't exactly poor.

NOTE TO EVERYONE: if you want non-nova backgrounds, just work toward it in game, don't spend xp on it.

Chrysalis:  That transition works, I think it is supported, and you have great tutors on the path.  That said, the chrysalis rules I posted sometime in the ancient past limit the points spent while in chrysalis to 45 in order to prevent the non-Terats from falling too far behind.  If people are ok with it though, I'm happy to allow buying off taint not to count toward that max.

Re: Experience and Character Advancement

Whoops!  I'm way over that then.  Better go fix all those powers I bought.  I thought the list was a little broken. :P

Let's try this then.

  158 To spend
-  21 Mega Dex 3 to 5 (Chrysalis)
-  21 Int 3 to 4, Mega Int 3 to 4 (Chrysalis)
-  27 Wits 3 to 4, Mega Wits 2 to 4 (Chrysalis)
-   6 Mega Strength (Lifter Enhancement)
-  28 Weather Manip 4 to 5 (Adaptability as suggested by Comstock)
-  20 Remove 2 dot Perm Taint (Chrysalis)
-   5 Enhanced Movement (Dex Enhancement)
-  11 Hypermovement 2
-  11 Density Control 2

    8 xp left over

I did the same thing when i did my chriysalis.  That 45 limit really put a kybosh on becoming the most powerful nova evar, which in hindsight seems like that might have been the intention...

Re: Experience and Character Advancement

In reply to Gale (msg # 523):

I'd suggest, if anything, ditching some of the mega atts.  The regular atts can be purchased outside chrysalis (appropriate too, since you've been working with only those for most of the past year), but they start getting expensive at that 4th dot.

Weather Manip needs to be 5 though, and I really like the Density shift idea.  Great for a post-chrys power.

Edit: ha, i'm playing edit tag with everyone tonight.  That's a good thing though.  Always nice to have this many people on at once.

ANOTHER NOTE TO TERATS:
If you haven't undergone chrysalis, it is fair game.  If you have, you can be AWESOME and get some chrys pts, but it's a bit soon to go into another chrysalis.  I'm open to objections...

Re: Experience and Character Advancement

Mmk, motivated to update my char sheet since Slider is dying. Just maxing things that needed to be maxed. Quantum Weirdness will come with the next XP block, since I figure that is something that ought to be working toward, manifesting potential, sure, control comes with practice though. Claws though, because Solitaire is going to be very angry at whoever shot Slider.

Claws 0-3:    12 xp
Quantum 6:    40 xp
Armor 3-5:    35 xp
Mega-Per 4-5: 20 xp
MArts 3-5     14 xp
Hardbody:     5  xp
Savate x3:    6  xp

Brings me to 375

As a note (since I looked at one of the high-end level 4 quantum wierdness powers) some of the Level 4 powers require Q7, not Q6

If I may suggest something to Hell Kraken, you may get the resources enhancement from Adventure, Wealth Beyond Avarice.  It seems like your empire is such that you are most certainly one of the wealthiest people on Earth.

Re: Experience and Character Advancement

I too have been looking at the upper ends of power in teh player's guide, but after some consideration, I decided against it.  Imp's less about raw quantum power than he was, he's more about social-fu. I'm buying up some mega stats, and buying a couple more enhancements.  As Q6 is 40 xp, (cough, cough)  I figure that will be only purchased during his next chrysalis.

Re: Experience and Character Advancement

That's the route I'm taking too. I'm also debating the merits of taking the next stage of background enhancement for node (which would make future episodes of power loss considerably less... insane) versus the first dot in Crosstime Travel. The downside to the later is that, by default, it only affects yourself and you have to take an extra to have it affect other people (lame).

Re: Experience and Character Advancement

I spent 16 xp to raise Empathic Control to a lvl 2 power and to raise it to 3 dots.  The enhancement that I gave it was to give it the same area of effect as Holo.  Also raised Mega-manipulation from 1 to 2 for 5 xp.

Edited because I suck at math
