Re: Experience and Character Advancement

I want to begin buying up my Mega-apps as well as acquire some more extras.  Two that I am looking at are Obscurement (Mega-App), and Clarion (Mega-Cha).  I know that I will also want to get taint resistance, there are some others as well, but I don't remember them right off the top of my head.  As far as powers go, I want to become more skilled in Holo and Empathic Control.  When those are high enough, I would like to possibly take Dominate (again probably linked to Holo, it would be something like placing subliminal messages in the music or in my speaking).  I had thought about taking telepathy as well, but I don't think that it is appropriate anywhere in the near future...maybe after a hundred xp or so.  That is really something that I would leave to the committee.

Re: Experience and Character Advancement

I've been keeping a set of books on message 422 of this thread and they seem to be accurate through 01/02/12 which is probably pretty close to current what with the stall that took place around that time.  Just need to find where the threads were at that time and count my posts afterwards.  So I've really got no problems with whatever is decided.  As far as development goes, the most immediate need is to fill out the powers.  Got a number of powers where I've only got 1 or 2 dots and need 3 or 4 to meet the concept and a number where I haven't got any dots and need 1 or 2.  So 1 dot in Immolate, Quantum Bolt, Density Control, Poison, and Sizemorph, 2 dots in Matter Creation and Molecular Manipulation.  Probably best to make Immolate deal aggravated damage as well.  Some skills would be nice too.  Been trying to bootstrap the character, so things have gotten a bit unbalanced, certain things being necessary at at least a low level while logically needing to be at a higher level.

Re: Experience and Character Advancement

I think I've been tracking mine decently well, but I also know I'm behind on xp compared to the others on my 'tier'. I also sort of want to say you set the dividing line at 300xp, but I'm not entirely sure. It may be somewhere back in this thread.

As for where I'm going with it. A few mundane abilities (though only a few), boosting Mega-Per and Wits (which are my secondaries, but which aren't really high enough to rate that distinction quite yet). Also a handful of enhancements (mega-mental). I also want to buy Adventure!'s Sanctum background for the Mars base and throw more points into Extradimensional Pocket every now and then (because it's hilarious).

Re: Experience and Character Advancement

For my part, I see phantasm growing into her mega-atts further, especially in enhancements for wits, stamina, and the other mentals.  Though she is a manipulator, I've not been impressed by the way the various enhancements fit her particular brand of manipulation, so I'll just be cherry picking there.

For powers, I see her finishing out her constructs, and maybe getting a few more powers linked to them, in the same vein as her creeping quantum tunneling constructs.  Past that, more of the same.  Like the others, I like where she's at conceptually and don't want to just suddenly develop wings/acid breath/animal empathy or whatever wildly inappropriate random power you can think of.

For others, I'd like to see 'Stock get some advancement, he hasn't had any for a long time (being co-gm is distracting I'm sure), Flare solidify herself as a team blaster (if she only has the fire control stuff, then she'd probably need a more intense damage power for that), Impetus go mad with power then find clarity again, 'Kaze become the whirlwind of death she's always been trying to be (probably just more raw damage for her too, though stealth powers would be cool too).  Gale, Grav, Kraken, and Dragon I think are great the way they are, probably just keep developing in the same direction they've been going, though I think Gale might benefit from a bit of "edge" to her powers, crackling electric fields, manipulation of temperature to violent and destructive effect, basically just a darker side to her powers based on her recent Michaelist interaction.  And Serenade of course just needs some screen time to display what she's already got.

Yeah, Comstock is at 320xp.  And I never want to buff him too much and risk him becoming a GMPC.  Besides, in the end he is good at one thing above all other things: being tough.

Re: Experience and Character Advancement

I haven't tracked anything since January, according to my character sheet.  So I'd be in favor of a big chunk to "catch up" and then tracking again.

As for where Gale is going:  I've spent a lot of XP in the past on powers, and not on stats.  So, first on the list are maxing out mega-dex and maybe getting a dot in mega strength.  Then I was planning on maxing weather manip, which I'm going to have make up a technique for, as the last one in the set is equivalent to flight.  I'm thinking about picking up Shroud, which would fit in with Phantasm's suggestions.  She can technically do the suggested effects already, I just haven't really had a huge chance to play them up. :)

Re: Experience and Character Advancement

I think Imp's power suite makes him almost a gmpc as is.  If he actually becomes president, i think he should be retired (no, rydi, not that way) and i should create a new character.  The question is, what kind of character would i want to play.  Hmmm.

Re: Experience and Character Advancement

Lets see if everything is right I'm at 175 total xp with 118 spent and 57 sitting there to use...

As for where to go with things.  Perhaps raising some normal attributes and abilities to flesh her out. Mega attributes and enhancements might be where to go though.  Dex is maxed so probably looking at perception and wits mostly followed by strength, stamina and appearance.  Enhancements  probably more looking at perception stuff and lots and lots of Quickness.

Powers are going to be a little harder to figure out... Other than raising Quantum Weapon and Quantum Bolt I can't decide on what else.

Book wise I only got the main book and the players guide, and the internet stuff was on my old computer which I lost when I tried to upgrade it.  So outside of what I got I don't know what will be good for her.

Re: Experience and Character Advancement

I think that I'm in favor of a set xp total for everyone based upon which wave of characters they joined with (I think we've had 3 waves or so at this point).  And then track again from there.

Imp, I can see that, though only if you are bored with your character.  I feel that you have a lot more lose ends to tie up, especially around Caroline, her abduction, the child, etc.  If you did end up switching, I could see you playing a wildly different character, a subtle spy, rugged survivalist, sports hero turned scientist, basically anything that Imp wasn't.

'Kaze, I think those are probably good directions to move in.  They'll flesh you out and allow you to live up to your assassin role.

'Stock, I feel there is a bit of time before characters move to being GMPC's or retired.  Unless the players are getting tired of their characters at the higher power level, I'm perfectly fine running higher level stories.  I'd actually like to see a Q6+ period of play before we end.

Re: Experience and Character Advancement

Well, since there was just a presidential election, there's at least 3.5 years of in game time before Imp becomes president, if that ever happens.  Lots of time to pull all sorts of daring child rescues, sanity regainment, and quantum 6 attainment.
As to other character ideas, I've got an idea for a cyberkinetic who molds with vehicles and uses tehm to fuel size morph grow and biomorph...

Re: Experience and Character Advancement

As Flare has been drafted as super-secret-evil-spy (now with kung-fu grip) due to the lack of nova powers, I have upped her stealth to 2, guns from 1 to 3, pilot to 2, and interrogation to 2.

I want her to have demolitions, but don't know what that would fall under.

In reply to Flare (msg # 476):

Well, rigging traps is under Survival.  I think the problem here is that demolitions is under a whole bunch of skills instead of just one (Engineering, Firearms, Survival, maybe more).

Re: Experience and Character Advancement

I think in one of the books (maybe the trinity players?) there is an actual demolitions skill.  Older White Wolf systems were weird in that they had secondary skills, and then alternate main skills, so there are a bunch of odd skills (excuse me, abilities) running around out there.

I'm fine with you just taking demolitions.  Oh, and you might consider picking a path (chrysalis or connection), assuming you are interested in discounts... Though that said, you might not be suited to either at this point.  Flare doesn't seem that connected to her humanity, but hasn't joined the Terats fully either.

---

I decided I will release an xp total based on player tier (i.e. time in game) after the full circle arc is over, and then you all can accrue xp as normal from there on, or I can just dole out occasional xp, as you all prefer.

Ah, yes.  Aberrant Player's Guide, page 88.  Under Int.  I knew it had been in the d20 conversion, but I didn't know if they'd just changed things in the conversion or if errata had been applied before conversion.  I guess the later.

Any ETA on this Mr. Storyteller sir?  *nudge, nudge*

btw, the tier-based xp seems more appealing to me, but I'm flexible

Re: Experience and Character Advancement

I am currently debating between 3 and 4 tiers of players.

Tier 1: Sol, Grav, P, Imp, Stock, Zero
Tier 2: Kaze, Gale, Flare
Tier 3: Kraken, Dragon
Tier 4: everyone else

The thing is, tiers 2 and 3 have less difference between their join times than the other tiers, and tier 3 has more prolific posters than tier 2, so their xp isn't THAT different; any fair xp differentiation between them would put them within only 25-50pts of each other.

Given that, do people care if I merge tier 2 and 3, or would you all rather have 4 tiers.  I'm fine with either.  The differentiation is more a storytelling tool anyway, it isn't too much about the power.

Please chime in with a vote, and after that I will announce the totals.

In reply to Rydi (msg # 485):

I think that you should collapse tier 2 and 3.  It makes it less bookkeeping and from what I have seen what Kraken and Dragon lack in time playing they have made up for in sheer number of posts.

Unfortunately, not that I am aware, but we're keeping his seat warm unless he does.

I'm also okay with less tiers, because I've run the numbers (see below) and it seems to break down best that way.
