Re: Experience and Character Advancement

So after talking with Rydi about it quite a bit we've settled on XP numbers. I pushed for Mastery 1 to be available (for the good of us all), but did not win that fight. For now, I guess it is locked out. I'll try not to cry myself to sleep. These changes and values are currently slated to be implemented when Full Circle ends.

Tier 1 characters are the starting characters: Solitaire, Gravitas, Phantasm, Impetus, Comstock, Dr. Zero (if he ever returns)
Tier 2 characters are from the 2 and 3 lists above - characters that have been in the game quite a while, but haven't been in since the beginning: Suzukaze, Gale, Flare, Hell Kracken, El Dragón
Tier 3 characters are relatively new to the game (yay!). They have joined within the last 12 months.

*This will be updated continuously as we play.

A copy of this will be added to the first post of the Rules of the Game thread.

To clarify, Tier 1 and 2 characters no longer gain xp if they post in a day, but will instead be awarded xp when threads or stories are completed. Tier 3 characters will continue to gain 1xp if they post during a day (until around 200xp when things will change, but they're all quite a bit under that right now).

This will be subject to revision in the future in the event that they need updating (such as when I finally convince Rydi to let us have Mastery 1) or when more tiers of characters need to be created.

Re: Experience and Character Advancement

No Mastery? Sorrow, thou will be mine constant companion.
While I can see the rationale behind not wanting to let that particular steroid abusing, dog eating cat out of the bag (not wanting to have the new people be totally unable to compete with the elder destroyers in their baliwacks) I can also see the virtue of allowing it to happen (letting us focus on a few areas of competency rather than going for a broader swathe of powers).  Q6 will also make possible the very big ticket purchases (mega att 6, lvl 4 powers, quantum 6) that will cost up to 30 xp for a single dot, making for a far less efficient xp to capability ratio.  Something that wasn't made clear in the post by Avilister, Q6 is in, yes?  Does that mean that Lvl 4 powers are pickable?.
I'm honestly just happy that the powerless storyline is finished and we can once again sandbox like the quantum fueled (demi)gods that we are.
Let the post rates soar.

I, for one, am glad that there is no mastery presently permitted.  I believe the tentative plan is "allowed at 2016 or 2020, when the Aberrant War started getting close to kicking off in original canon."  Mastery is, to borrow the modern vernacular, "OP as fuck."

^^^^This

And yes, upon approval for fit (just shoot the GM's a PM, or poll the group if you prefer), feel free to take appropriate lvl 4 powers.

Background Enhancements are now open to tier 2 characters as well.

For those spending a large chunk of xp, I'd like it if we could discuss the trajectory of your character dev a bit, (again, PM or public, whichever you are comfortable with) so that we can get the most appropriate stuff for you and make sure you are up for what comes next...

Yeah that would be helpful as I only have the main book and players guide, and also no longer have whatever I downloaded that had Quantum Weapon in it...

This is more of a Grav/Avilister thing, but if we can set up a place for it, we should be able to distribute the fan-made aeon books to those that need them.

Re: Experience and Character Advancement

Looking at my accounts I should have had 114 xp, one behind Gale, so I've got a big block of xp to spend too.  I hadn't spent all of the 114 xp as well, so the block is even bigger than it might have been.  I don't think I'm going to be making much changes to the basic outlines of the character.  Basic plan at the moment is to: bump density control (decrease), immolate+agg, matter creation, molecular manipulation, and sizemorph (grow) all up to 3; add disintegrate and flight+underwater at 1; add psychic shield at 3; and bump mega dex to 1, mega str to 2, mega int to 4, and mega appr to 2 (-2 I suppose).  That should amount to 224, I think.  Near enough.

Sounds solid to me.  I think in the future we could see evolution, but right now moving further down the same road seems most appropriate.

Once I've got Q6 squared away and probably another dot in MWits, MPer (edit: Oh, and MInt, of course :P), and Temporal and Spatial manipulation, I'm very strongly considering Cross-Time Travel. We can then Sliders-up this bitch.

Re: Experience and Character Advancement

I was also considering that, in light of recent events. However, I think I will leave that to The Other One so she can come visit. Definitely time for some Quantum Weirdness though.

Anyone have any thoughts for what Solitaire ought to do? I have about 125 exp to play with, and while I have my own ideas, I really like to know where other people think I'm going. It gives perspective.

Quantum Awareness seems like a thing.

Re: Experience and Character Advancement

My suggestions would be, vaguely in order of need/appropriateness:
1) The Impervious extra for Armor and more Armor
2) Dots of Invulnerability (Broad Category: Energy extra)
3) Claws (energy nimbus on hands when attacking)
4) Martial arts style stuff (either from trinity pg, or from New Flesh, both have their charms)
5) Dots of Psychic Shield (energistic properties of post-chrysalis body paired with mental hardening over years of nova combat)
6) Various Str/Per Enhancements
7) Forcefield (subdermal energy matrix enhancing durability when quantum is pumped through it)

I don't think that you should take all of the defenses listed, but a couple wouldn't hurt.  You also haven't upped your offense in some time, so the claws and martial arts should help.  For weirder stuff, that is up to you.  Quantum Awareness certainly fits.  Some of the direct quantum manipulation powers, either out of New Flesh or the main book.

On the topic of Martial Arts:
I've mentioned this before, but there are martial arts styles in both the New Flesh and the Trinity Player's Guide.  The martial artists in the group (Dragon, Sol, 'Tasm, and 'Kaze) should all consider taking some.  Though you all might want to get together and divvy them up so that you can create a unique feel for your fighting styles.

Re: Experience and Character Advancement

So, it's been a looong time since I've gotten to spend experience.  Here's my list, let me know if anyone thinks these are wrong, or wants to see something else.

Quantum 6 (just kinda have to)

By far the biggest expenditure, M.Wits goes to 5 and I get to buy all the enhancements I've been wanting since Phantasm was first made. (Combat Awareness, Cool Headed, Hypercognition, Mind Over Matter, Unfazeable, Unpredictable)

In light of her coming to terms with some of her fears and flaws, Phantasm is taking mega-Cha 1.

Taking Fast Senses and Body Awareness for M.Perception, but leaving the dots the same (2).

A couple of powers are going from 1 to 2, but nothing new.

Taking eufiber to 6, calling the resulting enhancement Symbiont.  Not sure what it will do, but hopefully it will be cool.

Re: Experience and Character Advancement

Oh, almost forgot, I'll also be investing the xp to lock in the Mars base as a Sanctum (as per Adventure!), and probably take the background enhancement to make it a Sanctum Sanctorum.

I forget, what was the rate we decided on for increasing backgrounds like that?

Standard rate, x2 I think.  Lower if you use the Connection alternate rules.

In reply to Gravitas (msg # 509):

Aberrant, p.124, experience sidebar: Backgrounds - Current Rating x2

An enhancement is, for purposes of this game, a 6th dot in the background.  Other backgrounds with ratings higher than 6 using whatever rating is appropriate to the formula.

Re: Experience and Character Advancement

So after looking stuff over I've got 75 xp to play with. And without looking at the web suppliments this is what I could come up with of what I'd like to do...

Hypermovement from 4 to 5
Quantum weapon from 3 to 5
Quamtum bolt from 2 to 3/4
Perception from 3 to 4/5
Awareness from 3 to 4/5
Wits from 3 to 4/5
Mega Strength, Stamina, Perception and Wits from 1 to 2 maybe 3 in perception and wits cases
Get the Catfooted mega dex enhancement
get the Durability mega sta enhancement
Increase Quickness and Enhanced initiative however many times possible think I currently got 3 and 2 levels of each respectively

Suzukaze:

First off, you are free to take all of the above, but if you want my advice, read on.  This goes for everyone really, as I try to provide a bit of input for those not as versed in making the somewhat-wonky Aberrant mechanics do what they want.

Mega-Atts
If you remember the first post in the "Description and Transhuman Traits" thread, point #4, you'll notice that you need to pick a primary mega-att, and two secondary mega-atts. The primary can go to 5, the secondaries to 4, the rest to 3.  This is to maintain some individuality between characters and force some focus.  So, it looks like you are trying to go Dex (primary), Wits/Per (secondary)?

The mega-att spread seems fine... I think Wits would do you the most good.  I'd suggest you take the combat awareness M.Wits enhancement from p.147 of New Flesh instead of enhanced initiative(Grav has a link posted where you can download it http://soulfire.net/Aberrant/ ).  There's another Wits enhancement called Unpredictable that sounds well-suited to the particulars of Suzukaze's character.  I'd take Hardbody instead of, or in addition to, Durability.

So, I would suggest something like
M.Strength 2
M.Dexterity (Catfooted)
M.Stamina 2 (Hardbody, Durability)
M.Perception 2
M.Wits 2 (Combat Awareness, Quickness, Unpredictable)

Atts and Skills
Are you trying to go Connection or Chrysalis?  Connection will get you a discount on normal attributes and skills, so if you are going that route you might want to wait to buy those tratis.

Powers
Hypermovement: Unless you just want it for completion's sake, I'd wait until later to take it; lot of pts for little reward
Quantum Weapon: seems appropriate
Quantum Bolt: I'd keep it lower than your Q.Weapon, but also seems good

I don't remember either anymore.  Not sure what is fair exactly.  Anyone have thoughts? My first reflex is to make new specialty-based mega-int enhancements:

New Mega-Intelligence Enhancements:
Combat Specialist
Characters may take a maximum number of combat style specialties in a single ability equal to 3 + M.Int

Broad Specialist
Characters may take a maximum number of specialties in a single ability equal to 3 + M.Int
