Idea! Highlighting changed PC descriptions (somehow)

It was mentioned in another thread on another forum about how the character description is a public-facing portion of the game, that the GM is responsible for maintaining order in (ie, no Adult material in a description)...yet we have no way to know that a description, once read, has been changed down the road.

(There is a decent argument here for allowing GMs to lock character descriptions, the same as they can character sheets, but I don't like that idea quite as much - 1) It prevents players from being able to pull their description to store it/use it later, which can be a problem if a game dies and the GM isn't around to unlock the sheet, and 2) It's nice to have something players can tweak at will without needing to ask 'Mother May I?' every time they get a new piece of gear.)

ANYHOW.

What would be great would be if there was a way to send up a flag - not just to the GM, but to the other players as well perhaps - that a PC's description has been edited. Perhaps highlighting the PC name in a color on the cast list, until it was clicked to open the description and read it?

I know that a lot of players put a lot of effort into writing descriptions, so it would be a nice little fanfare flag for them, as well as letting a GM know that they need to check said description again to be sure it's in compliance with RPoL's rules, and nothing sneaky has been done without their knowledge.

Here here, I second this!

As a GM who has run afoul of a few descriptions violating policy with blatant pornographic images. I would absolutely prefer both a notification and ability to lock the description (Some games use the description as a character sheet, so being able to lock and prevent all sorts of shenanigans in certain games would be important. (Also, like a character sheet, a 'last changed by x at y' would be absolutely wonderful (Even if it's a GM only object).

+1

I support this call in principle, if purely from a persepctive of a DM who is held accountable for the player descriptions.  Not sold on the specific implementation -- though leveraging the "red = new public content" highlight scheme here seems consistent with the site as a whole, but at the bare minimum, the DM should be alerted if the description changes, so they can review content.

+1 from me. I've had players in the past complain I didn't read their updated description because I have no idea it was updated. I can see it getting a good amount of use.

+1 on either giving GM ability to lock character descriptions in the same way they can do character sheets OR to some sort of notification.  Whichever jase finds easiest.  ;>
