Responsive site:  Back button from new reply

These are such minor things that I hesitate even to ask, but you did specifically call for UI improvements/issues.

--------------

When I'm in a thread and press the reply button, it opens an edit window in the current page, which is awesome.  I love being able to look back and having the quote buttons still there.

However, in my user mind, it is a new page.  (As a developer, I know it isn't, but there you are.)  After it opens the edit box, I realize that I didn't mean to hit reply, I meant to hit edit on my post, so I hit the back button.  Unexpectedly to me (as a user), it brings me all the way back out of the thread to the Game / Forum summary screen.

--------------

While I'm talking about browser history manipulation:  When I click "Mark all as read" in a Forum, it is entered in the history.  The back button seems not to do anything because it is just back to the same Forum page I'm already on.  I need to hit back again to get out of the forum into the main rpol.net screen.  I'd like to see that extra instance removed from the history.

I am putting this here because this seems like the most likely "similar request" because i feel it can be solved by the same new option in (game preferences.

as the OP has said, allowing the (back button) to return the user to the thread they were most recently editing.

When a user successfully adds a post to a thread, they are presented with three options.

  • return to thread
  • return to game
  • return to main menu

Currently, the default setting redirects users 'back to game' if they don't click a different link in time.

It would be beneficial to have an option that allows users to set a personal default in their game preferences.

For me, this would mean a 'return to thread' option instead of the current 'return to game' default. Similarly, for the original poster, pressing the back button would return them to the most recently visited thread.

Thank you for considering this suggestion.

Well, I disagree that this feature request is related to my original one :-) but I'm completely on board for this feature.  I *always* want to go back to the thread to proofread my note.  I realize that I could have hit preview if I wanted to proofread, but I never do.  I've had one too many times (on different sites, not here that I recall) where you hit preview and something goes wrong and you end up losing the whole post.

It would be a bit of a pain to make it a user setting, because that means adding the UI to set the setting, adding a column to the User table to store it, making sure that the value is available when it is needed, etc.  I'd be happy with just changing the default behavior or, barring that, setting in cookies which of the links I chose and making that behavior the default at least while the cookie lives.
