Re: Adding a Game System / Special Dice to the roller?
I was thinking of having the RPoL dice system do something like a set (d10,d8,d6,d8) roll the numbers randomly to give you a set of results. example: (7,2,5,3) then apply the same 'keep 2 highest numbers in the set' function to it. So that would end up with 7,5 and adding the numbers in the set remaining together, will give the result of 12. That would be the basic function.
Now, to be true to the RPG dice system, you would drop the 1's from the set as well. They are not included in the highest two results. So if the results of (d10,d8,d6,d8), were (7,1,1,1) the result would only have a set of (7) after dropping the 1's, so the result would be 7, and 3 jinxes/opportunities (which are the result of the 1's rolled)
Not really needed for calculations, but for reference. If a player rolls a 1 it is a jinx (the GM can buy complications with Plot Points). If the opposition rolls them they are opportunities and the players can spent Plot Points to assign the opposition Complications (additional dice for the opposing group).
I could do something similar in Visual Basic and post the code, would that be helpful to convert it into the custom Perl language? Granted, I'm an amateur in programming, but I have done some character generators in VBA, so I have used similar concepts. I am willing to help as much as possible.
