Logout error
If I try to logout on the new responsive website, I am being redirected towards my active user page. I can still see, browse or post messages in any game I am part of. For example, I am writing this thread while I have selected the logout button for three times now. I'd suggest someone takes a look at this. A current workaround is going back to the old website and logging out there, but I suspect this will be a problem if the old website is phased out.

Anyway, my apologies if I am posting something that has already been covered. I just thought it was something that was worth mentioning.

I **think** this is one of those browser cookies hanging around from the old website problems.  Does that still this occur if you:

- logout out of the old site
- login to the responsive site
- logout from the responsive site
- login to the responsive site
- logout from the responsive site

I think that should logout properly.  And continue to logout properly unless you login to the old site again.

If that still fails, next level is to clear all of the browser cookies for the old site.  In case there is a cookie there that is set to automatically log you in to the old site.

The logout button works smoothly now on the responsive site. I will try to test the older site soon.

The problem has come back again. It is again not possible to logout using the responsive site.

Right, I think I've got a handle on it now ...

  • If I log into the old site and log out it works
  • If I log into the responsive site and log out it works
  • If I log into the new site, switch to the responsive site and then try to log out it doesn't work - keeps me logged in on the new site.

I suspect the problem is something to do with the way cookies are handled to carry over logins when switching betwixt old and new sites - the new site is probably set up to detect existing login on the old site and carry it across and I'm guessing it only clears the new site login in the cookie when you try to log out ... so the new site immediately detects the uncleared login from the old site and stays logged in.

If so, if you manually deleted the RPoL cookie (or probably easier just to delete all cookies if that won't take out anything else on you), then hit logout (or maybe even just refresh the page) that should do it.

In any event, that's something for jase to look at when he has a minute.  :>

If I delete the cookies it works again (after going from the old site to the new site). So I think you are right.

That's the way cookie inheritance works, it flows down from parent domains to child domains.

So if you set a cookie for rpol.net it'll be seen in 2.rpol.net and 1.2.rpol.net.  If you set a cookie for 2.rpol.net then it'll be seen by 1.2.rpol.net but not by rpol.net.

Can't do anything about it, that's the way cookies work (I'm really trying hard not to resort to a corny pun here...).

So, if you log onto rpol.net and r.rpol.net and only log off r.rpol.net then it'll pick up the cookie from rpol.net.

Nothing I can do about it.  Crumbles.
