Re: Group A OOC (Tamika)

Latest Changes: Leather cloak added. 6 gold removed.

Character Name: Tamika Ward
Class: Rogue    Level: 3
       Fighter  Level: 2
Race: Half-elf
Deity: None
Size: Medium
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Height: 5'5"  Weight: 109lb
Eyes: Blue
Hair: White
Skin: Pale

Description:  The  girl  in  the  shadows  is  illuminated  only  briefly by the
swinging lanterns on a passing wagon. She leans with her back against a wall and
yawns,  the lateness of the  night having its effect.  Even in the brief passing
light it is clear to see the girl looks half-elf, early-twenties,  and extremely
atractive. Silver-white hair flows freely down her back, ice-blue eyes stare out
from  under her frosty fringe.  As she notices your  attentions she smiles coyly
and gives a sly  wink before throwing back her  head to flip the hair out of her
face.  Her attention is fleeting as she continues to watch the street, as though
waiting for something.

After a few moments she turns and begins to walk down the street,  passing under
gilded  lamps as she moves.  Her attire is dark and simple,  black leather.  The
protection  offered  by  her  sleeveless  armor  and  short   leather  skirt  is
questionable,  though by her lithe  movements she  may rely on quick reflex more
than hindering armor. She is armed as simply as she is attired, a quaterstaff is
in her hands,  a couple of daggers and a  small leather satchel are on her belt.
What  further curiosity the  girl had is left hanging  as she turns a corner and
swiftly disapppears into the darkness of an alley.

Re: Group A OOC (Tamika)

Or a lot of insanity ;)

It's actually not too bad - I'm finding it less work dealing with the 6 groups here than one group tabletop, relatively speaking. After all, face-to-face we usually play for at least four hours, which can be anywhere from half a day to a few weeks in-game. Here, we're only just moving onto day 2!

The other bonus point is the number of players and groups is providing me with incentive to do more work on the setting, so I'm achieving more than usual in that regard.

Question the first: when would you like to have arrived in Caer Anddross? Very recently, or a few weeks ago? I think it'd be most interesting for you to arrive today and be completely new to the town, but it's your choice :)

I agree, definitely start from taking the first steps into the city.

While I am generally very aware of metagaming, if both Tam and I know nothing of the city it will make it all the more exciting.

Re: Group A OOC (Tamika)

That's OK, I'm sure I can wait until tomorrow. I should be finished playing with the character after this final little bit.

I'd really like to up my dance skill and make something of it. But what to ditch?

I think before we start the only change I'd like to make is remove profession:tailoring and add the background skill point to perform(dance). Also remove all five Search ranks and one point from Disable Device so I can max dance.

I've added the code for the updated skillset so you can copy it across to the character sheet in your opening post. I don't like clutter so I've hidden it.

Re: Group A OOC (Tamika)

I've updated your skills.

We also need to sort out roughly where you're from and a little more about your parents. I'm happy to have your father as an elf-in-exile (either voluntarily or not), and your mother a human. Clearly you're from a city or town further to the south. Any thoughts on the occupations of your parents? If they lived in a town they wouldn't be farmers - more likely labourers or those with a trade.

If you're from the far south of Ddaran you would have been touched upon by the war. If not, it didn't likely have much effect on you other than causing a small shortage of men and a lack of visitors from Hora, and perhaps a slight shift in trading goods going through the city.

Re: Group A OOC (Tamika)

South sounds good, I can stick with that. If there is a small city or town which is around I don't really mind where. I'm guessing that would be in(?) Hora.

Tam's father, Temon Mithalvaion, leased a small two-storey shopfront where they both lived and he worked as a herbalist. When Tam was much younger he tried to teach her things about herbs, flowers and medicines but Tam was only interested till she was old enough to explore the city. As Tam grew into her teenage years Temon noticed startling similarities between Tam and her mother. Apart from their identical blue eyes Tam seemed to mirror her mother in behaviour as well. While he loved his daughter, Temon was disappointed that she followed the same paths as her mother. He tried to keep her at home, keep her interested in his profession. But Tam was always out at inns, harems and gambling houses. In the year leading up to Tam leaving the city she spoke to her father only a handful of times. She hasn't seen or spoken to him for five years.

Tam only knows her mother by what her father has told her. Her mother, Emma Ward, helped raise Tam until she was four years old. She hasn't seen her mother since. Tam doesn't really remember her mother, she knows only two things. That she has followed in her mothers footsteps and that they share the same unique ice-blue eyes.

Re: Group A OOC (Tamika)

There we are, it's up now. Excuse the terrible pun and the wall o' text.

I'm assuming your father would have taught you at least a little about the elves, so I'll gradually supply you with a little info about them.

Here's the first bit: the lands of the elven kingdoms are inhospitable even by the standards of the Northern Kingdoms. Lying as they do so far to the north, they are rocky, icy regions. The elves have adapted to this - one consequence is that elven visitors to the Northern Kingdoms dress noticably less warmly than the natives, often wearing skirts and sleeveless tops where those born in the area cover up with furs and hides. It is elven tradition to go barefoot, which seems exceptionally odd to those used to the unforgiving weather. A few half-elves inherit a little of this hardiness to cold. This has no effect in game terms.

Just remembered I haven't offered you your bonus item to make up for having very little wealth for a level 5 character. Any requests let me know, otherwise I'll be getting you a list to choose from in the next day or two.

Re: Group A OOC (Tamika)

Just been thinking on bonus equipment. I am thinking it strange that Tam would have a single set of clothes given the setting. I don't think I've played a d&d based game which wasn't your usual adventure/dungeon crawl hack and slash so I've never really been bothered thinking past one set of armor. Below I've used clothing costs from the Arms and Equipment Guide to form a list of clothing which I would like to request.

Fine dress             20gp
Silk shirt             10gp
Silk pants              8gp
Silk sash               4gp
Silk nightshirt         6gp
Leather vest                3sp
Leather pants               8sp
Leather shoes               3sp
High boots                  5sp
Corset                 25gp
Stockings & Suspenders      5sp
                       75gp 4sp

and, if the clothing items above don't reach what you had in mind a Masterwork Darkwood Quaterstaff (640gp) would be my only selection for a 'big' item.

Not sure what you had in mind but thats just my thoughts.

Re: Group A OOC (Tamika)

Very good point - and the clothing sets in the PHB are limited. I also think they're a bit expensiv but that's another story...

I'd be happy to allow you those clothes. It'd be bulky to carry but you didn't say you were travelling light!

I'd been thinking about a masterwork weapon as it's usually one of the options I offer, but a masterwork staff seems a bit odd. It's just a stick of wood, it's not even like balance is important really. That's not to say I wouldn't allow it, by the way - I'm quite happy with the idea, just find it a little unusual.

The one thing that puts me off is that carrying around a noticeably well-made quarterstaff is a bit of a statement. It isn't like carrying a sword, where the workmanship isn't obvious until you draw.

Anyway, I'm still thinking about your bonus item as you're two levels higher than the others I've offered. You can take that clothing or similar regardless, since it's background detail and I love that sort of thing :P

Thanks!

I think I agree with the staff thing, I never really thought of that. A well crafted and expensive staff would probably draw attention and it is, as you said, just a stick.

I'm not expecting much for bonus equipment, I'd be happy with just the clothing, but it's up to you. If you can find something nifty for Tam I certainly wouldn't decline it. =)

That'll work. You can always flesh out some things yourself - as long as you bear the style of the setting in mind you probably can't go wrong. Names of places in people are Welsh in style, there are plenty of examples available through a search engine.

Not a worry! I wouldn't usually ask but I'm a little paranoid after my first solo player disappeared without a word!

Re: Group A OOC (Tamika)

Assuming nothing goes bump in the night I'll just continue on with a further post from the next morning.

Re: Group A OOC (Tamika)

Nothing goes bump in the night - the rooms are over the first hall, which is a little quieter than the second, so sleep won't be too difficult. And the bed lives up to the price :P

Re: Group A OOC (Tamika)

It's probably worth me pointing out that the mansions are marked on the map in the World Info thread. They're the ones with the double-crossed dagger symbol (a vertical line with two horizontal lines crossing it). Tam won't find all of them but you get the idea!

Pretty much. Things should be back to normal now, just had to have 30mins to sit down and think about what to do next.

Let's have a gather info check to see whether you find the sort of person/info you're after. If you have questions beyond what you asked in your last post, either post them here or IC and I'll answer appropriately.

Re: Group A OOC (Tamika)

I have just been accepted into a new job, while this is fantastic news as it's a position I have been chasing for months it also involves long hours.

I won't be going anywhere, and I will still most likely be able to maintain a couple posts a day, but for the next week or so I may be a bit quiet as I prepare and adjust to the change.

Great news, congratulations! Moving jobs is not an easy feat in this climate.

That's fine, just keep me updated :)

Re: Group A OOC (Tamika)

Hello! Hope it's going well, and just checking you're still about.

If you can't get back to the game just yet, don't worry, I'll allow a good few weeks of silence before assuming I've lost you, since you gave fair warning :P
