Poll 1 - danger level!

Hi gang,

Optional poll

Based on recent game experiences with my tabletop group, it struck me that asking how much jeopardy you're willing to put your characters through is a good idea.

You don't have to answer; if you don't I'll assume the default.

To answer, please make one post with your option (or an additional option if your preference isn't listed). If you want to keep it private, make it a private line. NOT a PM please, I have enough of those already!

Your choice applies only to your character.

Option A: DEFAULT Pull no punches, but no arbitrary death.
This is my default stance; it'll be very possible to get into very hot water, possibly resulting in death or a badly failed mission. However, I won't let characters die in totally undramatic circumstances (such as in a non-plot critical tavern brawl).

Option B: Miserable death allowed.
As above, except if you get very unlucky in an unimportant situation, I'll stick with the rules rigidly and you'll bite the dust. You're always welcome to make a new character ;)

Option C: Pre-agreed death only.
As above, but your death will only happen with prior approval from both of us, so should be nice and dramatic and plot-centric.

The point of these choices is that I know some people hate losing characters (I'm usually one of them) due to the investment in them, whilst others enjoy the thrill of the dice.

All are valid, so no discussion here please - feel free to chat in general OOC though!

Option A.
Though how non-critical are we talkin' here? Like, is a monster or pack of brigands on the road not worthy enough a challenge to risk one's life for?

Re: Poll 1 - danger level!

Does it matter? Option A means I can start bar brawls and if I win it's xp's, if I lose I know I won't die.

Re: Poll 1 - danger level!

Sure, but bar brawls tend to be all in good fun anyway (it's what Subdual damage is for), and it's a critical failure of great magnitude that kills you outright in such a situation.

Or, if it's you doing the killing in the bar brawl, say hello to the local constabulary.

I'd go with B, the super critical fail is there for a reason people! Sometimes it's just your time to go!

Re: Poll 1 - danger level!

Having already been the lucky recipient of a 6 dice fireball on a 2nd level party, I'll vote for A, with the credible illusion of B.

I've been in a few memorable TPKs and I still like to let the dice rule. Otherwise I don't see the point in rolling. I'll go with option B.

I don't use XP, so as Brooke pointed out, it could just be a bit of fun - but on the other hand it's likely to have implications for the characters involved.

Also starting something does tend to lead to a little less sympathy ;)

As long as I'm not subjected to auto-surprise rounds in random encounters at party level + 6, maybe we have a fighting chance. :)

No promises.

Of course I jest...it'll be PL + 7 ;)

Re: Poll 1 - danger level!

option b as long as it's not a retarded way to die. Like trying not to fart, rolling 3 1's in a row on a fort save and exploding... actually that would be kinda funny so I'd let that pass. ;) anyway real example would be random encounter adult red dragon, we're totally screwed kinda deal. You haven't done any random encounters yet, but that was just an easy example to use.

Re: Poll 1 - danger level!

I'm leaning towards A myself as those of my type tend to be quick to suddenly fail.  Though I would expect some form of significant personal loss should I be put in a position where I would normally die, unless the GM decided it was particularly cheap themselves.
