Mission to Ryloth Part I - Day 1 - Evening

Varis and Narik arrive back in the penthouse around 9 P.M. in the evening. Narik appears to be more than a little exhausted, while Varis displays signs of annoyance. As they exit the turbolift, Varis is speaking, "...never heard so many excuses to delay negotiations. Something or someone is putting pressure on Sienar executives here and I suspect that those Vindicators in orbit have something to do with it."

Narik nods in agreement and adds, "When they let me out of sight long enough to visit the head, I ran into a squad of stormtroopers patrolling the corridors. You've been there before, right? Is that normal?"

She shakes her head. "Not at all. The twi'leks like to keep the Imperial presence as small as possible. If there are stormtroopers in the Sienar offices, that's very unpleasant news, indeed. My negotiations are probably going to be pointless. The administrators will be too afraid of being caught to sell any tech or components to KDC." She sighs. "I'm going to change into something more comfortable."

"I think I will, too. I wonder who else is here..."

"Still here," he responds as he is sitting at a table.  It appears that he was concentrating on something, but when they walk into the room he puts his things away and diverts his attention to the newcomers.  "All sorts of fun going on, I take it?"

"I guess you could say that," he says, walking over to sit across from Aadun, rather than changing as he'd planned.

"The human and twi'lek administrators at Sienar seem to be scared stiff of something or somebody. They did everything but give her a flat out, 'No.' They'd really like to discuss the deal, but they can't right now. Anyway, they've asked Varis to wait a few days before beginning negotiations in the hopes that their problem goes away on its own.

"There are stormtroopers all over the Sienar compound, the spaceport, and the government offices. According to the Sienar people, Kala'uun is going under an Imperial interdiction tonight at midnight. No traffic in or out. And it's driving the bureaucrats and merchants crazy. They're practically foaming at the mouth at the loss of potential profits."

He shakes his head and looks around. "Anything interesting happen to you today?"

Aadun listened intently to Narik's explanation of the proceedings and frowned.  "What are you going to do if it doesn't clear up in a few days?" he asked and wondered to himself what the Imperials goal could be.  "I can imagine that this treatment is going to leave many of the people feeling angry.  The cantinas are going to be full tonight."  He found the last thought sort of amusing and grinned.

Re: Mission to Ryloth Part I - Day 1 - Evening

It was amazing how a place so majestic could feel so empty. Save for Narik, Varis and Aadun, not a single soul from their group was present. Had each of them found business to attend to or had they found the distractions within the city? Strangely, Joron Sarrus had left earlier that afternoon, with only the small inclination of his shoulders as a hint to where or why. Oh there was purpose behind his nonchalant gaze, and it wasn't until he returned that that purpose revealed itself. As polished boots clacked across the tiles, a voice called out to the small gathering.

"Somebody," Joron replied, entering the conversation out of nowhere. "And I'll be happy to explain just why. But first...where's Varis?"

Varis returns to the room, wrapping a robe of violet dramassian silk around her form as she walks. It's unclear whether there is anything under the soft fabric as she takes a seat in an overstuffed chair, pulling up an ottoman on which to rest her feet.

She begins unpinning her hair. "All right. I heard you ask where I was, Joron. Do tell us this fascinating information you've gleaned today."

As she removes pins, her hair spills down in a mass of copper waves, due to the time spent in the bun. She rakes her fingers through it and then sweeps her hair behind her while she listens to Joron.

Re: Mission to Ryloth Part I - Day 1 - Evening

Colluded eyes watched with inquiry as kaiten of all people graced them with his presence. It was surprising to see the man out of his little cave and show interest in the situation. Just what happened to the fear and paranoia he saw earlier? Had he slept it away, or had whatever problems he had been resolved? Hopefully, the bodyguard would remain level headed; confident Kaiten was a lot easier to deal with than the one prone to tantrums.

When the curvy silhouette of Varis emerged wearing naught but a robe, Joron Sarrus eyed her with a cool, calculated stare. If only she hadn't been busy in meetings that were for nothing, she might have been able to help him unravel the puzzle. Now, however, he had some explaining to do.

"I've learned that the person responsible for tonight's interdiction is a personal envoy of the Emperor himself." He paused, waiting for the implications of that fact to settle in. "An inquisitor -I believe they're called- here on business. He'll be stopping by Kala'uun's Planetary Museum of Cultural Heritage tonight to pickup a number of scrolls for Palpatine himself." Pausing again, he eyed Varis as if to imply his previous thought.

"Which is either stupendous timing or horrendous for what I had in mind. The curator told me collecting the scrolls was just a side job for him, which leads me to believe he's also here for something more. I would assume that means he's tracked a Jedi to Kala'uun, but," Joron shrugged. He knew little more than that.

"In every garden, weeds are inevitable," Joron replies to Aadun with a shrug. In a perfect world, Order 66 would have seen to the death of every traitorous Jedi but for every flame of life extinguished, it was possible, however unlikely, that a small ember of Jedi teachings escaped. If you doubt me, why not go to the museum or seek out the Imperials and ask for yourself, Kaiten?" Joron asked with a small tilt of his head. "Though I suppose that would be hard to do in your room."

Shrugging, Joron looked to Varis and Narik to see what they had to say. "I think it's possible to use this to our advantage."

"Aadun, the Jedi were very real. And they were quite capable. The Emperor and his henchman, Darth Vader, are interested in eliminating them for that reason. If there are any here in Kala'uun, they are in a great deal of trouble.

"An Inquisitor would certainly account for the heightened Imperial presence. And if they're convinced that there really is a Jedi down here somewhere, they could probably justify a pair of Vindicators to keep the system closed."

She rubs the bridge of her nose between the thumb and forefinger of her left hand, as if she might be getting a headache. She looks over at Joron. "Let's here what your idea, Joron."

His smile lessened considerably when Varis spoke up about the jedi.  "They must be extremely dangerous if the empire is going through this much trouble to find one.  Beyond the jokes my friends would say back on the colony, I don't have any experience with them."

She purses her lips thoughtfully. "Your plan has potential. It wouldn't surprise me if the Emperor ordered the entire head clan slaughtered for such an offense. As you've said, though, the timing is going to be tricky. Is it really feasible to break into this museum tonight, with so little planning or surveillance?"

Kaiten glares at Varis. "You can't be suggesting that we participate or even orchestrate something that might result in severe sanctions or the deaths of innocents just because it is expedient. It's one thing to remove a corrupt head clan and help to replace it with one which has the possibility of being an improvement."

Re: Mission to Ryloth Part I - Day 1 - Evening

That question was not one Joron could answer easily. Though he had looked for additional systems in place, he was not someone of Aadun's caliber. Throwing his hands into the air, he offered Varis a helpless shrug. "If there's anyone among us that could get us in and out, it would be him." He inclined his head to the Zabrak. "I would think he would be able to dig up anything on the museum - blue prints, security, the works."

"Tonight would be our only shot at the scrolls," he stated matter-of-factly. "If we don't go for those now, we could still take a shot at a different artifact later and pl-" Though he had more to say, the moment Kaiten opened his mouth to proest, the noble finished abruptly in an annoyed breath. Just how did this moral compass end up working for a crime lord?

With a small wave of his hand, Joron plopped down on a chair opposite of Varis and sighed. Some people were just afraid to get down and dirty and he just couldn't understand why not.

Kaiten tries a different tactic, since the first didn't elicit the response he wanted. "We should do as little harm as possible while accomplishing our mission goals," he begins, using conciliatory tones. "Besides, if we draw too much attention to ourselves, who is to say that the Inquisitor wouldn't be even more interested in Kala'uun. The last thing we would want is to be in the center of a full scale Jedi hunt, just because this Imperial had his suspicions confirmed."

"We should just kidnap this Skaan Distombe and send him off planet. We meet the primary goal of getting the Distombes out of power. Let's stay away from the Imperials as much as possible and keep our heads down."

Kala had found her way to the penthouse after an evening of cantina excursions with Krysten. When she saw most of the group there, and talking about something, she took a seat and nodded to the others.

"Well, This day has proven interesting. Aadun, can you do me a small favor. Can you find me a picture of this Skaan Distombe? I want to confirm a suspicion. Also, how are things proceeding otherwise? Do we have any idea of our next moves?" She said, as she reached for a drink.

Aadun sighed and walked over to stand in between Kaiten and Joron.  He felt like a cohesive team would make for a better shot at actually completing the mission successfully.  "I am sort of stuck in the middle here, because I can see both sides.  If Joron's plan is successful, then it could make our jobs a lot easier, but it has the potential to backfire.  If we fail and are caught, then we are likely to be taken care of."

"I'm not scared, certainly, but it ups the ante if we fail.  If we succeed, also, there is a chance that the Empire will choose a more destructive way to deal with the issue that we can't foresee, which will anger the client.  What I am really curious about, is Narik's opinion."

Once he had that out of the way, he turned to Kala and gives her a once over before answering, "I can try, if I have the right equipment."

"Actually, I've got a picture of Skaan Distombe," Varis says. She pulls a datapad out of her robe's pocket and presses a few keys. She tosses the datapad to Kala. "That's the most likely candidate for a security breach, so it seemed like a good idea to have his picture readily available."

She looks at Aadun, who has placed himself physically between Joron and Kaiten. "In the end, all that matters is that mission is as successful as possible."

Kala looked at the datapad image of Skaan, and nodded slightly. So, he wasn't the man she had seen with Sinya earlier. The question is, then, who was that man. That required a little bit of looking into.

"Well, he certianally seems the type to lounge around in clubs and cause trouble..." Kala said, as she gave a little shrug. She pondered for a second whether Aadun could access the building's security grid and look through any footage security sensors would have taken from earlier. "Are we changing the mission now?" She said, as she raised an eyebrow at what Varis had said.

Looking over at Aadun, she was now really curious. "Hold on, we want to do something to potentially anger the empire? Has someone been drinking some bad jawa juice again?"

"I do not believe kidnapping him will produce the desired result. Though," Joron shrugged, caring little to debate the issue. He wasn't in charge and did not feel it was his place to dictate how they accomplished their goals. Suggestions, however, were perfectly in his right. "Aadun is correct. With this plan comes far more risk but the reward..."

The reward was so much sweeter.

"Considering whom we're working for, everything we do has the potential of upsetting the Empire," Joron replies to Kala with an upturned brow. "But no, it wasn't a change to the mission plan. I merely happened upon an opportunity to use against the Distombe Clan. As I said, we could go for the scrolls, the mask, or choose to forgo them all entirely."

"The trick is the potential. Personally, I would rather not annoy the commander of those two Vindicators, and give him enough excuse to see if his turbolasers targeting systems are aligned properly." Kala replied, as she gave a little shrug. "So, they're here to pick up some oddities from somewhere. I say we let them do what they want to do, and we do what we've come here to do. That way, everyone leaves happy, and we don't have to worry about any imperial entanglements."

Turning to Aadun, Kala nodded. "How much access do you think you could get to the building's security features? Something interesting happened earlier, and I'd like to see if you could pull up an image feed from any of the security monitors..."

As for the artifact in question, it is the burial mask of whom is presumed to be the First Emperor of an ancient civilization of twi'leks. What Varis spoke was true. Stealing the mask was probably above and beyond something Skaan might do. However, men were notoriously stupid when it came to matters of love. If Kala found merit to the plan, her inherent beauty would be enough to lure the man just where they needed him. Still, he wouldn't press the issue; stealing the mask probably came with far more complications.

Even if turbo lasers weren't part of the equation.

"Has there been any word from Master Thallas?" Joron asked, curious to learn if he had found anything of import.

Ideally Narik was sure all of his companions would prefer to keep a low profile whilst the Imperial presence was so obvious in Kala’uun. They had an objective to reach however. Worrying Narik was the fact that their escape route had been cut off. The soldier nodded as their options were assessed.

”The Emperor’s Inquisitor will have little regard for the populace or politics of Kala’uun. Stealing the papers would bring certain death to whoever was responsible or the theft or if not them whoever was responsible for their protection. It could result in the dissolution of the current ruler ship. Which is our primary objective” the soldier had been standing but as he concentrated on their plans he found himself a seat and wearily sat down, a day full of boring negotiation had tired him. Seated he continued ”there’s a lot of ifs involved. First we’d have to successfully steal the scrolls. Also a rogue Jedi loose in the city mean anything might happen” he shrugged ”damn fool Jedi whoever ever they are” he frowned. With a look at Aadun as he questioned the religion he gave his own verdict ”if the Jedi were dead the Emperor wouldn’t waste his time with Inquistors. The Jedi are real, I fought along side a few during the Clone Wars. They’ll be too few of them now to change things” he paused as he thought about it ”better that they disappeared and left the galaxy to sort out its own problems rather than anger the Emperor. Like now. Kala’uun now practically under martial law. Its citizens will suffer and likely some will die. The terrorist rebel scum and Jedi inflict only suffering to the people they say they’re trying to protect” Narik realised he had veered from the proposed plans and shook his head to clear it.

”The scrolls are worth a shot. Let’s see if we can manage to get our hands on them. We’re going to be here at least a few more days, well until those Imperials find what their looking for, so let’s stay busy. It the plan turns out to be impossible we can try another tack after”.

Kaiten shakes his head in disappointment. "If this plan works or doesn't, you've admitted that you're going to create unknown amounts of suffering and death. I just can't believe that you're not willing to look for a more subtle and less... sinister approach.

"If you piss off this Inquisitor, don't you think the backlash is going to hurt us somehow? Or the mission? What if the Emperor abolishes the entire Head Clan system of government and puts Kala'uun under martial law and an Imperial appointed mayor? Did you think of that? "Kaiten, I'm convinced. It's all a very bad idea." Words, like gentle rain, cut the modicum of silence between those that spoke. "I'd hate to see Kala'uun laid to waste because of our actions."

With arms draped lazily behind his head, Joron Sarrus gazed at the ceiling with seeming indifference. His ideas said and mostly vetoed by caution and innocence, he truly had little more to say on the matter. Either they would or would not, there was little in between, at least when it came to a heist. [private to Narik, Aadun Ogden: Even as he says those words, the look he gives to each of you says otherwise. It would seem that the words were meant only to assuage those that disagreed and that he still felt his idea possessed merits.]

However, beneath the facade of a young man that no longer cared, the silent noble listened intently to the ongoing conversation. The small perk of his brow betrayed the moderate surprise he felt when he heard that Kala saw Sinya at the cantina. Her gentleman visitor, however, was something to be expected; her lineage and wealth attested such. "I agree that it would be most prudent to discover the man's identity. It gift us with less...surprises when dealing with her." Pausing, he looked to Narik. "Brill's knowledge will prove most useful to our endeavors, however, if you wish for his opinion on that matter, we would need to meet him tonight, before the envoy of the Emperor collects His Imperial Majesty's prize."

And right now, the clock was ticking...

Re: Mission to Ryloth Part I - Day 1 - Evening

Narik shook his head ”I don’t we should rush our introduction with Brill. Perhaps it is correct that we should let this opportunity pass” the soldier shrugged his shoulders. Then rubbing his hands he considered what they could do with Joron’s information ”maybe we could try to find out more about why the Inquisitor is here. We could visit the Kala’uun’s Planetary Musuem of Cultural Heritage in the morning whilst the Emperor’s envoy is also there”.

Re: Mission to Ryloth Part I - Day 1 - Evening

"Even though the mission objectives haven't changed, with an Inquisitor here, and the potential for the delegation's mission to be canceled at any time, our initial time frame has changed. Rather than two weeks, we may only have one week, or five days. While you shouldn't rush things unnecessarily, too much reconnaissance or surveillance will be a luxury we can no longer afford."

She looks to Aadun. "Aadun, why don't you and Kala head downstairs to the security terminal and see if you can find Sinya's mystery twi'lek, then get right back up here."

Aadun smiled. "Of course," he says and nods his head to Varis.  "I'll be right back."  He turns and walks back towards the mirrored panels in the foyer, figuring that Kala would be following behind him.  He opens them up and once Kala steps through he closes them behind him.

Kala nodded to Varis. "Very well." She said, as she stood up, and nodded to the others. "If you eventually take a vote on what we should be doing, I will vote against swatting the imperial hornet's nest, and simply working with the origional mission idea." With that, she followed Aadun to the lift, wondering who this person was.

Once Aadun and Kala had departed to further investigate Sinya’s companion Narik let himself relax. Learning to rest when you could but remain at the ready was a common skill for any with military training. Narik would wait for the return of the pair and what light they could shed on Sinya. Then in the morning he planned to explore Kala’uun with the others.

A few minutes later, Kala emerged back into the room. "Well, Aadun was able to find him, now we just have to figure out who he is..." She said, as she took a seat on one of the comfortable chairs.

Re: Mission to Ryloth Part I - Day 1 - Evening

When Aadun passes around the data disks for others to view the still shots, they see Sinya, who is a Lethan twi'lek like her father, and the mystery twi'lek male, who is a Rutian twi'lek. They are chatting, laughing, and generally flirting very heavily from the looks of things.

OOC: Make Perception checks please.

[Private to Thallas Arno: Thallas recognizes the male twi'lek as Skaan Olan's younger brother, Valsil.]

When Aadun passed around pictures of Sinya and her mysterious partner Narik studied the images carefully. It was Narik first opportunity to view Sinya so he looked as much at her as to her companion.

Snatching the disc with delicate fingers, Joron loaded it into his personal datapad for study. Like Narik, it was his first time seeing Orn's daughter and he studied the female as much as the male. However, as he eyed both parties involved, his eyes sought to discern everything. Their clothing, choice of beverage, any sign of guards or a person that seemed to keep a close eye on them despite a total lack of involvement.

OOC: Taking 20 for a result of 29. [private to GM: I should have took 20 in the museum too, heh.]

Aadun handed off the disc and watched his cohorts as they each loaded up the images and looked them over carefully.  He stands there for a minute or so, but then he turns and sits down in one of the chairs.  He figured they'd weigh in on their opinions soon and so he waits.

Krysten had entered a few minutes after Kala, and had remained quiet for the discussion.  She was security and action implementation on this mission, not a planner.  She could plan with them if they so needed, but her primary duties were to protect the delegation and implement any plans they required her too.

She took the disc and loaded it up.  She had seen the two twi'leks before, but she still studied the image intently, seeking to notice the things she hadn't really seen before.  Yeah, she definitely needed to install a recorder in her helmet.  She made a mental note before really taking a look at the 2D still holo.

Re: Mission to Ryloth Part I - Day 1 - Evening

Aadun has saved close-up still shots of the two. There is very little to be discerned about their surroundings from those pictures which he has put on the disk. The shots indicate that there were probably five or six different angles for cameras from which Aadun took the stills. Both Sinya and the unknown twi'lek are finely dressed in professional attire.

OOC: If you want to know more than what the two look like, you either need to go with Aadun to view footage or ask questions of those who have seen them.

Re: Mission to Ryloth Part I - Day 1 - Evening

After the examination of the images Narik signalled with a wave of hand that he was too tired to stay up any longer. ”In the morning we should arrange to meet Brill as soon as possible. Once an appointment has been arranged we can acquire the needed gift. Let’s not forget about him in our haste to influence Sinya. By his father’s account Brill will be a willing ally; we should not let that opportunity pass through our hands. Once we have secured his aid we can then focus on Sinya, he will have a shared interest in Sinya’s cooperation as successful completion of our mission will benefit him politically. He will no doubt also know who his sister's companion is” the soldier then stood up and retreated from the room to his private chamber to rest.
