Personal Introductions

This forum is for personal introductions that you feel comfortable sharing with the other players.  POSTING anything here is NOT AN OBLIGATION.  However, one important consideration that makes gaming so appealing is that it connects us to people with whom we have something in common.

As I find that I game with the same people for literally years, the most enjoyable games are those where I do get to know everyone and trust others to get to know me.  So, with that in mind, ...

Gaming since 1976 or whenever the original D&D pamphlets came out.  Switched to Rolemaster and Tekumel around 1980.

Grew up in New Orleans and graduated from college in 1986 with a BS in Computer Science.  Also a CPA and ITSM.

Married in 1989.  I have two young children: Rachael (10) and Joshua (13).

Interests now include Shotokan karate, investing, woodworking (sold all my eqpt), writing, and gaming.

Currently, I'm an IT management consultant specializing in ITIL and CobiT.  During my career, I've lived for 2 years in Little Rock, 6 years in the New York area, 10 years in the San Francisco bay area, 3 years in the Los Angeles/Ventura area, and now, back to my home in New Orleans.

Most recent significant life events include moving back to New Orleans in June and looking for work.

Re: Personal Introductions

I can go for this. unless you are all creepy internet stalker types. in which case disregard all information following.

Name:Michael, Mike, Mikey, pretty much any derivative thereof.
Living about 45 minutes north of Atlanta these days.
Age:28, although I will soon be 29, so any rpol gifts will be accepted.

Born in 1980, so the only DnD I remember as a kid was the cartoon.

I am the helpdesk manager for Universal Alloy corporation, I do all the IT grunt work basically. I have a couple of related associates degrees. Figured IT beat ditch digging... I may have been wrong.

Main reason I posted all this jazz was because our fearless GM mentioned specifically Shotokan Karate. I am currently training MMA and my teachers primary discipline is Shotokan Karate, and I thought it was interesting that we had such a random item in common. He's a 3rd Dan, was a golden gloves jr. champion when he was 16-17, and trained BJJ with the Gracies for a number of years. He also teaches us various Kyokushinkai techniques, Muy Thai and wrestling. Hoping to cut some more weight and compete at 205.

Re: Personal Introductions

Name:  Tim   aka Wine Guy

living in the land of fruits and nuts about an hour north of Sacramento.

I've been playing DnD since 83 or so, and branched out into Top Secret, TNMT, Boot Hill, Traveller, Star Frontiers, and Twilight: 2000 as they came out, but I've always ended back at 1st Ed. DnD.  I like some of the concepts of d20, but can't be bothered with the mentality behind it.

Other interests:  reading (if it's printed, I'll probably read it), football (not the crap played in the U.S., real football played by England, Deutschland, and Holland... no pansy Italian or South American teams liked in my house), and martial arts of various flavors.  I started out in Tang Soo Do and olympic fencing (college - epee is awesome!), found my way to Hapkido, Ninjitsu, and Kenpo.  Lately, I've been fiddling around with Escrima.

2 kids, a wife who is scary smart, and a reasonably interesting job round out the blurb here.  Please do not come see my in my professional capacity.  You'd likely be seriously ill or injured.  I like my job, but working on friends just makes things more difficult... I'm an ER doc.

I've never played DnD before; Adam lured me into this one.  :)  For the past several years I have role played Harry Potter games though, freeform.  So I'm learning all the rules to this, please be patient with me!

I don't work; I'm disabled after a car accident in 2004 (triggered my lupus and fun ol' fibromyalgia amongst a host of other stuff).  But I get by, and I'm now engaged to be married (looks like it will be in September).  So if I have to disappear for a week on a honeymoon, I'm sure you'll forgive me.  Though the place we're going has internet access, so I may pop on and post.  LOL

Re: Personal Introductions

My name's Mike as well - I knew I liked Edrich for a reason.

I've played in Rpol games with Adam (aka Tol, a bad ass little halfling thief), but not sure any of the rest of you...so far so good in this game!

I'm married, 40, no kids, and 3 cats, all of which I'm willing to sell at a reduced rate.

I've been playing D&D since 1980 when I bought the basic set w/ 'In Search of the Unknown' and a bunch of cheapie plastic dice that didn't roll right...

I've done a ton in my life - and would be happy to share as we converse and get to know one another.  Fwiw - I used to live in Jackson, MS for a couple years - not too far north from you, Adam, and I did a one year stint in Hotlanta (Roswell) in 99, and now live in South Carolina only a few hours from you, Edrich...if we could get the rest of you to move east, we might be able to get together for a game now and again!

Nice to meet each of you...I'm enjoying the game thus far.

Re: Personal Introductions

Name: Graeme
Current home: Auckland, New Zealand
Age: 41

I started gaming in 1983 with a Basic DND set, ‘Keep on the Boarderlands’ quickly graduating to 1st Ed ADND but stopped playing table top back in 87 due to getting out of all boys school and discovering beer and girls in about the same order at university.

I studied Economics but in my final year I was thrown in front of a car after a night out.  Ten days later I surprised everyone and came out of a coma as crazy as a loon for the most part, my university studies wiped along with a whole lot of other basic stuff.

Ignoring doctor’s advice 3 months later I took a job direct selling, to get the brain nimble again as I devoured books on self improvement and brain development, which I promptly forgot as fast as I read them.

After several years I found myself working for a bank in insurance but became disillusioned after seeing appalling advice being given by little snots that had no idea what a disability meant.

I backed myself and in 2001 set up as a personal insurance adviser which I now do based from home.

Along the way I married a scholarship student before she woke up to the fact that her hubby had only half a brain and have a 5 yr old daughter who by all accounts is way smarter than her dad like her mother.

General attitude to life, "Shit happens, and if it happens to you, suck it up and get on with it, there is always someone worse off."

I joined Rpol last year and after some false starts stumbled into some good 1st ed adnd games.

Re: Personal Introductions

Wow...some very talented, interesting and inspiring folks here.  Next time I feel like complaining, Graeme, hit me over the head w/ that flaming sword of yours!

I was in the US Navy and stationed in Japan.  I made it to Australia, but would've loved to hit New Zealand as well.  Maybe someday...

Re: Personal Introductions

I think Adam's going about it in the right way - personal intro's build a bridge between all of us...which is cool.  Makes turning away from the game that much harder...not to mention this is one of two, maybe three games that I'm in that I'm really intrigued by.  Several others I pop in once per day and write a post and that's it.  This one I've actually stayed up past midnight to see if anyone's posted on it - lol!

Anyway - nice to meet everyone.  Let's try not to get killed, eh...and above all else, keep my pups alive!!!
