Re: Jungle Fever [OOC]

Give it an hour or so. These things usually fix themselves :] You could try a different browser also?

Re: Jungle Fever [OOC]

I knew I'd seen this before--if you click on FAQs in the upper right hand corner, and then "View RPoL Information", it will tell you whether or not the portrait servers are down. It looks like they are both up, so if deleting cookies and cache didn't do it, I'm at a loss...but I agree with Thread-Weaver that it will likely fix itself. :)

Re: Jungle Fever [OOC]

I put your portrait up that you had for fareeda in Shadow of the Witch-King. let me know if you want another.

Off to bed now anyway - indeed that's a good way to get some conversation going, where's everybody from? Out in the countryside in England here, just moved back from uni in London. I'm appreciating the peace and quiet but I wonder how long that will last :]

Re: Jungle Fever [OOC]

I tried a little bit of 4.0 as the former group was excited about it.
Seems a little simplistic.  I did like the greater movement and encouragement to use variety of powers, but it felt shallow compared to 3.5.  Definitely a "I'd rather play Warcraft than 4.0.  Unsurprisingly, the group never went anywhere with it before I moved, and I haven't bother picking up a book for it.  Unless the games here all disappear, I cannot see the enticement to do otherwise.

(and regarding playing since 1st ed... I recall Chainmail, and still have the coloured box D&D (with the old dice you crayoned in yourself) somewhere after the move)

Re: Jungle Fever [OOC]

Actually I did receive the Dragonquest beginner box set on my 7th birthday I believe. If that counts maybe I'm a veteran too! It had like a different card for each monster, piece of equipment, trap, character etc. was so awesome. I can still remember trying to teach my parents the rules so we could play - and failing. Oh to be an only child...

Do we have a deadline for finishing our character sheets? I work better with a deadline in mind.

Re: Jungle Fever [OOC]

Also, is the starting gold for a cleric 1d4 gps? It's been so long since I've generated a first level character.

Oh, and I'm located in Phoenix, Arizona in the good ole USA.  I'm emotionally preparing for our brutal summer, but so far, the temperature has not been about 105 degrees F. We'll soon be getting some days of 115 degrees F.  It will help me get in the mindset of Calimport, since it has a similar climate.

Re: Jungle Fever [OOC]

Well let's say you've got the weekend to get it all done, is that enough time? The girlfriend's coming to stay over the weekend anyway so won't be able to post. We'll get going on monday :]

Oh and its maximum starting gold at level 1, plus your bonus regional item from the FRCS which you get free (usually a masterwork item). So a cleric with 5d4x10 starting gold gets 200gp to buy equipment with. Should have put that in the CC thread my bad.

Cheers.

Sounds good. I'm traveling this weekend, but I should be able to find some time to finish it.  Ah..and I found the starting gold for clerics, which is 5d4x10 gps.  Are we rolling randomly for starting gps, taking the max, taking an average, etc?

Re: Jungle Fever [OOC]

Hah I just edited my post as you were typing that. Crazy.

Yes maximum gold at 1st level. If you don't want any of the bonus regional items from your region (which I guess is Calimshan) then you can take an extra 300gp instead.

That's perfect because none of the bonus feats from Calimshan are really geared for clerics.

Re: Jungle Fever [OOC]

Yea I would have thought maybe a masterwork scimitar/falchion (Saracen sword) or some scrolls would be better than a wand of magic missiles or MW studded leather for Calimshan.

The favored weapon for a cleric of Azuth is a quarterstaff, so it looks like I'll be having a finely crafted walking stick instead.

True...my question for you is whether Abbas is going to look like the boy next door (given your profile pic)?

Re: Jungle Fever [OOC]

No.. still crystalizing my concept, but I'd rather have a pic than not, so a black&white does a nice job of being an image, but being more easily replaced by the colour character image.

I think too much about these things - I blame the university courses :)

Re: Jungle Fever [OOC]

You mentioned to me you had three degrees, I didn't even know you were allowed to take more than one! Were they full 3-4 year courses? You must be in debt heaven! - although I guess since the loans don't pay back until you start earning then you could just keep doing degrees and never pay them back!

I've just finished my first one an i'm already missing university life :( I got good enough grades to do a Masters at some point so will probably go back for a year or two.

Ah too bad because Jibril would undoubtedly be disarmed by a boyish-looking meat shield :)

Yep.. deliberately shorted myself one class on the advanced degrees (two at same time), so I could go back for another year, but that's as much as I could extend it.  Law's like Masters, but that was 3yrs + articles = 9 yrs total.

I will not touch the debt issue.
... save to mention that my wife also has three degrees.

There was a suggestion about the gov't paying for a Masters in Law (via correspondence/online) so I'm crossing my fingers that will blossom into another chance to go back fer edjumicating~

University was a candystore of learning and opportunity.  Loved it.  Next to meeting the missus and making things legal and somewhat honest, best times.

Re: Jungle Fever [OOC]

I must admit I was there more for the social aspect. Seeing how well I did without putting a huge amount of effort in (I was usually the one in the library doing their conclusion with half an hour to go until the deadline) I know I could have got a first if I had tried, however I wouldn't have had half as much fun as I did have. The people I've met, the places I've been and the states I've been in over the last three years will mean much more to me than any certificate :D

I might look into doing an MA overseas, Australia maybe, perhaps even the US! I hear the girls over there love English accents? haha I'll just walk into class dressed as James Bond every day.
