Re: Jungle Fever [OOC]
I can barely remember what happened, it was so long ago (strange, it feels much longer than a year and a bit). I don't care to do more than skim it again either.
I generally don't mind in-character bickering, as long as it's played sensibly and doesn't derail or hold up the game, and kept in moderation. There will always be friction between personalities, especially when random, different people are forced together.
I also don't mind if a character has gripes and insults, whether in speech or in thought. It's a part of role-play, and can make for entertaining banter. I've usually seen it done well, and done it myself from time-to-time. Done right, it reveals more about the flaws of the character making the insults than the target, or accurately reflects the character the other person is playing.
(Speaking from personal experience, I much prefer insults in character thoughts to ones made about me behind my back, as I've later found happened, twice. Once was from a GM who blew up at me for having in-character thoughts about another character, rather ironically. Apparently he and most the rest of the players, all RW cronies, preferred bitching about me in PMs and IMs and setting me up for a fall rather than openly addressing the problems my character was designed with. :( )
But, of course, it should be in moderation, and players should have their characters make concessions to keep a game running smoothly. If the bickering or insults get too much for one player, a polite message in the OOC can easily tone it down, rather than what we were getting here, an argument blowing up and people storming off or whatever.
(An example. In one game, my PC and another had more-or-less the same job and skill-set, so they naturally became rather competitive and one-upping each other and griping about it. Unfortunately, for various complex reasons, my PC wasn't entirely prepared for the work. We both played that out, with the other picking holes in what my PC doing. When I tried to show she wasn't entirely incompetent and actually knew some stuff, the other PC kept pulling her work apart. I got a little annoyed, but made a polite request in the OOC thread to end the hole-picking. We agreed, he stopped, we toned down the griping, and our PCs worked together much more easily after that. Like sensible adults. :) )
