Re: Jungle Fever [OOC]

Meh.  I had a pet badger as a kid. It died.  I think I'll pass on owning anything bigger.

Re: Jungle Fever [OOC]

Don't worry, anyone can be pretty when the heat-induced jungle hallucinations kick in ;]

And how did you tame a badger? Aren't they like rip-your-face-off kind of vicious?

Apologies to the main group that I'm not feeding you much to work with - Thaniel and Krogan are in their introduction thread and I need to slow things down so everyone can get in the same time zone. I'll be moving things along soon, have no fear ;]

Re: Jungle Fever [OOC]

If you need Thaniel and I to speed things up, or slow things down, please let me know.  I'd hate to make anyone wait for me.

And, by the way, I never said it was a tame pet badger.   I AM an orc, after all.

Re: Jungle Fever [OOC]

I think we need to get some PC-to-PC interaction going anyway. :)

No slavery of or by Lambrac here. He's a business man, and appreciates the value of well-paid employment. Unless there's a golem he can order around, of course.

Now, Lambrac hopes to seduce a jungle princess, or at least one of the more humanoid and feminine yuan-ti or other monster-kind. ;)

Hmmm....i'll work on it.

Re: Jungle Fever [OOC]

Wooo, portraits are back up, at least for now.

I'll NPC Fareeda, along with Linni, for now. Looks like we've lost both. Hardly a surprise but it is a shame as I like Fareeda's character and she would have given the a game a chance of romance, which is always good. I'll give her a couple more days but it looks unlikely.

I'm assuming we'll share Alzhedo as a common language?

And Thaniel, you might want to change your portrait, unless you're Abbas's long lost twin. :)

Dear DM--there is still a chance for romance! Jibril is an equal opportunist, including other races and species. LOL.  However, he's not an "entertainer."

Meh.  You human and elfy types go ahead and "talk amongst yourselves".  Krogan will wait for a REAL woman.   :)

Re: Jungle Fever [OOC]

Well I have another player on the sidelines who is away for the summer but who will be joining the group at Chult - their character WILL be female and WILL NOT be human, I'll say no more ;]

Lambrac:
I'm assuming we'll share Alzhedo as a common language?

Unfortunately not, not all characters speak Alzhedo as not all characters are from Calimshan. I have been thinking about this and have decided that unless specified (i.e. 'Lambrac whispers in Alzhedo') all speech will be in Common - my interpretation of which is a sort of trader tongue that would vary in dialect and tone depending on what region you are from.

Re: Jungle Fever [OOC]

Okay, I always wonder whether Common is meant to be a trader's pidgin as it's sometimes described, or a fully-fledged language, as it's usually used. (I was so happy to DM for a party where everyone spoke Chondathan, in a realm where that was the dominant language. Then new PCs arrived without it.)

I don't know much about Calimshan or Calimport. What's the deal with the byways? Are they like bridges over the city?

Lambrac:

Information from my own game and the Calimport reference manual:

Calimport was built using the drudach system, an interlocking series of small brick-walled neighborhoods. All drudachs are organized into groups of two to five, called sabbans, which in turn are grouped into wards. Unlike most cities, few of Calimport’s streets are named. The walls of drudachs and sabbans form byways all their own, and here is the primary “road” upon which most moneyed folk travel within the city. Where one drudach or district meets another, there are arches that allow ground movement between the drudachs below and small stairs that allow “the worthies” to remain above it all. At each of the gates or arches are steps set into the walls, allowing access from the lowly ground up onto the wall. It is most common to see the rich standing atop the drudach walls, yelling down to servants who have stepped down to ground level to enter a shop and buy goods for their masters. Should someone of importance have to step down onto “common ground,” retainers carry rugs so the less-than-exalted earth does not soil their master's feet.

In various areas of the city, buildings are built up so their main floors are even with the byways of their paying customers. In such areas, the actual ground floor either is used as storage, living space, or sometimes as a secondary sales area for those less exalted than those above. Cellars are predominantly used for storage as well, though some new taverns have built ramps leading from the primary byways, past the ground floors and down into the cellars to allow their patrons to take advantage of cooler temperatures without asking them to debase themselves by touching the soil

Re: Jungle Fever [OOC]

If you look on the Calimport map in Game Information Lambrac, you can see the main byways as the walls running between the sabbans and wards (these are the large byways as opposed to the narrower walkways on the smaller walls between drudachs. The guard blockade is located near the three-way join between the Marekh, Axash and Otahl sabban walls.

12 Amlakkar guards hmmm - as a GM really wanting to see this game reach Chult, I wouldn't recommend it ;]

The phrase "LMAO" is tossed around so casually these days, but it's good to see something like that where it's actually true.

Also, I hear that they speak Common in the country of "What?"

Oh and another quality demote btw!
