;Mojo's Story: WIP

Magic has a price.

Everyone I know touched by magic pays a price. Taboos, vows, 'curses', selling your soul and so on, all are simply the price of doing business in the Magical world. When you can do amazing things that the mundane world, even today in the more accepting world of superpowers and hypertech, still don't believe possible.. the price is easy.

For me, it's doing 'favors'for all sorts of beings; not all of them human and more than a few times the 'favor' wasn't voluntary. Waking up with Wolf, always with the capital W, straddling me with his teeth at my throat, is a good example. Long story, ask me about the scars sometime. Bring something stiffly alcoholic because the nightmares are still spectaular.

Now some entities don't say much beyond a simple word or two about those they claim. When I met Dani, something spoke in my ear, and flushed a good night's buzz of booze and weed away. One word and I went from 'nicely buzzed' to stone cold sober.

MINE

That was how I met the Widow's Daughter, Dani. Long story.

Condensed Reader's Digest version is something like this. Once upon a time a Greek 'wise woman' (slang for witch) made a deal with someone/thing out there to help her village. The deal went down like this.. for power, she and her daughters would always be without a man in their lives. The Widow and the Widow's Daughter. Each daughter in time became a Widow, with the birth of her daughter.

Sometime around the end of the Second World War, Dani's great grandmother figured away around the curse on her bloodline killing men that fathered their daughters. She chose men who were dying already. Turning a curse into a mercy. Or so she claimed. I think it was not as altruistic myself, but I tend to call things the way I see them.

Dani went another path, choosing girls over guys. She realized that first night that I was 'wise' like her and we hit it off. Friends and associates in school She taught me a few charms and minor spells and I gave her what few tricks I knew. Mostly the alchemy and warding off spirits that I knew then. Most of our stuff didn't work well with each other, she was a crap alchemist and her runes were crap. Her spells mostly didn't work for me, too much feminine power for me; whatever patron her family worked their mojo thru didn't like men.

Needless to say when that entity spoke to me in the middle of the night on a blood red moon I listened. Two words in my mind that sent me bolting across the room in a full on rush.

SAVE HER.
