Farden is already drawing picking up his backpack and gear and moving for the most likely defensive point.

OCC - Is there a place where there is extra foliage that Holly might use entangle?

Re: Ch06 - Coal the Enchantress

Glumr did spot a low, flat area with a pond and a good collection of plants while looking for the skunk, but it's on the other side of the cave from where you are now.  Farden doesn't approve of possibly crossing the burning wolves path to get to that spot.  Instead he points out  a ledge path not far off between a cliff wall and a drop off.  It's a good place to prepare a defense without getting trapped, and it's close enough to reach quickly.

Re: Ch06 - Coal the Enchantress

Is there a spot Glumr can get to where he could fire arrows at the wolves in the path without being blocked by his companions?  If so Glumr will go there or to the best spot in which he may use his bow unhindered.

Re: Ch06 - Coal the Enchantress

OK, here's the choke point:

http://zachery.path.med.umich....rning_wolves_map.jpg

The gray area is a steep cliff face rising upwards, and the black area is a less steep, but still untraversable drop off.  The wolves are expected to approach from the east.  There's a slight slop to the path upward to the west, but this is not enough to provide high ground.  The sun is setting and It is growing dark.  Light sources will be necessary very soon.

Please tell me where you'd like to start out and if you'd like to set up light sources anywhere on the map.

Re: Ch06 - Coal the Enchantress

"It's starting to get dark, let's light the area up." says Glumr as he pulls his magical torch out of his pack, the flame's light becoming visible up as he pulls it out yet burning nothings.   He moves over to the upward cliff and tries to wedge it into the ground or a crack so that it shines across the choke point so they can see their targets.

Then he pulls out a glowing cylendar which radiates a soft light.  He carries that down the trail and sets it in the path.  "Just in case they figure out a way to come around us." he tells his friends.

Finally Glumr walks over to the edge of the out cropping as surveys the choke point.  "I'll take position here.  I can get a good angle with my bow without shooting past Farden at the wolves.  I hope these unnatural bastards follow us here, especially now they know someone is in the area."  He turns to Talita "You're with me." and gestures for her to come. He's not sure if she understands the words, but his body language should make it clear.

Ever Burning Torch stuck in ground at K3.
Light Cylinder at B4.
Glumr moves to F8.

Re: Ch06 - Coal the Enchantress

Watch our flanks? Grasping her shortsword with an even firmer grip Sunna nods and follows the others. While moving she puts the flute away hastily.

"I am supposed to help you over here, Farden, right?" Sunna points at the shallowest part of the 'path' with the tip of her sword and moves there. "I don't have any light sources with me. But I could try to distract the wolves a bit from attacking, if any of you wants to try talking to them."

OOC: Moving to G5, but will change position when asked by Farden

One note on bards:  The eye is active and with you, and will presumably be able to provide music, which frees Sunna up to aid in other fashions.  In the fight against Xyzeryx the eye was mysteriously taken out even before the battle began, which necessitated Sunna's playing of morale boosting tunes.

"That's fine, Sunna." says Farden as he places himself in front of her. He has his shield ready, and a javelin in his hand, looking out to the east.

Stand in H5.
Readied action: Javelin attack on the first hostile to come within 60'.
What's the spider doing?

Holly takes the lantern, and steps behind and to the left of Sunna, so she can direct the light without blinding any of her friends. "You want it open?", Holly asks, her other hand holding her sickle ready to defend herself if needed.

I took the liberty of rolling for Sunna to get things moving.

17:06, Today: Fritzholm, on behalf of Sunna, rolled 5 using 1d20+2. init.
17:06, Today: Fritzholm, on behalf of Sunna, rolled 20 using 1d20+3. Listen (DC 18).

Init
----
Wolves 23
Farden 18
Holly 11
Glumr 7
Sunna 5
Eye 2

Farden and Sunna are the first to notice the burning wolves.  They are dark hunkering creatures stalking rather quickly towards the party.  Sensing they've been spotted the 3 burning wolves break into a run.  Glumr waits for a moment for the first one to enter the strong glow of his lantern and chucks a ready javelin at the monster.

http://zachery.path.med.umich....rning_wolves_map.jpg

I need Farden's javelin attack on wolf2 at a range of 35 feet.

Battle of the Burning Wolves round 1

The burning wolves charge, infernal lava-like drool slavering from their jagged toothy maws.  Farden hurls his javelin at the lead wolf, but it glances off the beast's unnatural, shifting hide.  The trio comes to a halt before him and hunkers down for a fight.  The center wolf breathes out a blast of flame all over Farden and Sunna, while the other two chomp at the hardened warrior.  Farden is able to fend off one, but the other nips his lower leg shallowly, but burns the flesh and armor badly.

Farden takes 7 damage from the bite.

The fire breath damage turns out to be almost trivial.  Sunna and Farden must make a REF save DC 13.  If they succeed they take 1 point of damage.  If they fail it's 2.  Farden gets a +1 to this save due to his armor.

13:43, Today: Farden rolled 19 using 1d20+3. ref.

Farden snarls in pain from the burns, but he keeps his cool. He will first wait until the bards in the group start their invigorating music. Then, he's going to shift into a more defensive stance, draw his sword, and make a slash, which proves ineffectual.

Delay action until after the eye
