"Who's holding the money?"
OOC: good question. So far I've been keeping track of it. You pay Coal 100 Ferisedan gold. You know have 840Fgp left from the harpers reward.
"
Oh, don't worry about the arrows. I'm sure our local fletcher and blacksmith can make some custom arrows to help out fellow Triplefang."
She does, however, accept the 100 gold.
"
Please bring back extra moonstone or quicksilver if you can. I'll be happy to reimburse you. It would be good for me to have some on hand," Coal asks.
You thank the enchantress and head back to town to sleep the night in the longhouse. You head out for the Cabell lodge once again early in the morning.
The last few days Holly has been trying out an old Druid traveling technique. Just after dawn she and Moonlight go out in search of berries. At this time of year the berries tend to be dry and hard, but they still seem to work for her magical spell. It transforms the berries into filling meals. She is able to create enough magic meal berries (Holly calls them Goodberries) to feed everyone each day. Still, everyone prefers to each *some* real food each day.
By the time you are leaving the Cabell lodge, Holly has stored away 50 Goodberries even though you've been only consuming about 25% of your normal food. In fact you've saved so much food that you decide to give some of it away at the lodge. Even so you're each saddled carrying 25 pounds of food when you leave. You like food a lot better when it's on the cart instead of your back. With the change in terrain and without Moonlight around to accompany her on her morning gathering missions, Holly gives up on the berries for the next leg of the trip. You slowly eat through all but 5 of magical berries along the way.
The second day of travel into the mountains is the peak of the a full moon. It's visible during the afternoon, but is gone most of the night. The days are hot and windy and the travel is slow. the slow, but constant ascent is tiring. You have to rest more often and backtrack occasionally. Having to carry all you food, water, and gear isn't helping either. Maybe you should've gone to Silvergate instead.
By the fifth day the party has settled into mountainous traveling habits. You're covering more distance now. You're starting to adapt, but you're also getting into thinner air, so you're still very tired at the end of each day. The higher elevation does take some of the heat out of the summer air. The winds have also died down to pleasant breezes, so the weather is quite comfortable.
A day later Sunna slips on a patch of slick moss and tumbles off a small cliff. You all hurry down to see if she's alright. She is still awake, but dazed, and has broken her shoulder. Holly tends to her wounds. She makes her a sling for her arm and casts a healing spell on her while Glumr and Farden gather up her scattered belongings. You decide to take a break and have a meal before continuing on. Sunna assures you that she's felling well enough to press onward.
About an hour after noon on the eleventh day of traversing the mountains you crest a ridge and spot the entrance bridge of Sloss Hinterplatz. It's not what you expected. From here you can see no city at all, just a bridge, presumably leading up to a tunnel in the mountain side. It looks nothing like Rankor Heights.
As you get about half way to the bridge you run into 2 dwarves coming the other direction. They look quite weatherbeaten and rough. These are not the first travelers you've passed, but they do look like they've been traveling longer than any of you. However, they both sport well-worn blue coats of arms that look quite official. They are both armed and armored.
"
Ho there!" one of them calls out to you in accented but clear clantongue.
Both dwarves hustle to get to better speaking distance.
"
Human visitors. By the look of you I'd say two Triplefang, a Ferisedan, and Plains Eagle, a fox, and…" he squints at the floating eye. "
A baby beholder."
