Re: Fresh Accounting
As for strategy and tactics, I (as Irael) am a bit unsure. Irael only has 1st and 2nd lvl cleric and MU spells, and very few of those can even affect a high hit die monster like a hill giant. So I will be relegated to a few magic missiles, a command spell here and there, and some things that can cause confusion (darkness, dancing lights, etc.).

I don't think there's any way we can hack and slash our way through this. But just trying to burn it down is (IMHO) no fun. So some attempt at sneaking our way through, making a surgical strike here and there, and then getting the heck out is probably the best bet. We might be able to survive one big battle, but not two. So we'll need to pick our spots.

I think we slink around as best we can, find what treasure we can, and take out the chief if we find him. Then we try to create some confusion and get the heck out of dodge.

Having an invisible Hyek is a huge advantage right now. We need to use him to maximum effect.

What do the rest of you think?

I apologize for my long absence - I'm in the middle of an unexpected and rather abrupt job search.  Things are going to be unsettled in the Wine Guy household for the time being.

As for this one:  I figured we should so a recon-in-force, find out how many we're dealing with then go back in once we've sent word back about the threat estimate.

Irael - your idea of sneaking/gathering information/causing concern and havoc is a good one.  I vote for that.

Re: Fresh Accounting
We've left a number of corpses behind us in plain sight making sneaking around a limited option time wise (unless they don't switch guards that often).

We might try spiking some doors as we go as a way of limiting access to the outer halls. I worry about getting too far in and cut off from the only known exit.

It does appear that we have no set plan or goal. Horace had always assumed assassinating Nosra was the best course. But we also need information (why are all these different types of giants here together?). Having Hyek sneak into to the main hall might be a good way to accomplish the latter.

Re: Fresh Accounting
Hello, Gang -

I'm back.  All good thoughts, to a point.  As a hint:

I've indicated that the current political climate is an offshoot of greater worldly troubles.  Certainly, it has had an impact in this valley, with repercussions felt as far as Ansbach (and perhaps further).

Sir Garavel sent you this way to seek out the cause of trouble - part of that is to handle the trouble within your means.  Part of the reward is collecting such treasure as may be found.  So there's a lot on your plate.

Fair warning: this can become a hack and slash, but the end result likely means that at least some of you will fall.  So, back to my earlier point - you're on the right track.

Hope that helps.  I'll post in character later today, when I've had time to digest all that's going on.

Re: Fresh Accounting
Sometimes games get bogged down at decision points. I think the game needs a PC leader, somebody who says, "Here's the plan. You/We do this...."

For at least three reasons, Hyek isn't the one for this role. Suggestion: Eithe rthe person with the highest Intelligence or highest Wisdom should get us going.

Re: Fresh Accounting
Guys -

As DM I take some responsibility for the slow pace of the game.  So, I'll take the hit for that.

As I have periodically, I'm again reviewing the viability of the adventure.  Did I bite off more than I could chew with this old module?  Other than posting more frequently, is there anything I can do to re-energize the group?

The situation right now is simple - as I posted in the game thread, you can look around, you can retreat and scout other passageways or you can try to either sneak or charge through the double doors into the room beyond.  Or, you can retreat from the steading and head back toward the elfin city or the small hamlet on the edge of the vale.

One of the things I've noticed is that Rpol is about encounters.  Adventures that entail a lot of slow crawling without melee to spice things up eventually fade away.  After several years of running this game, I'd like to keep going - but that depends on what you guys want to and are trying to accomplish.

At this point I'd like your input on what you'd like to accomplish, where you see this adventure headed and your commitment to moving the game along - trust me - I'm a business owner, so I get time constraints, but just shoot straight and let me know what you want to do - give it some thought before deciding - it may be that a few of you wish to continue, while others wish to leave - in which case I'll come up with something to keep things moving a quicker pace.

As always, thanks for the input:

The Mgmt.

I've indicated a plan. Some PC needs to take charge and say, "We're doing thus and so." Games often flounder at such decision points unless somebody pushes.

Re: Fresh Accounting
Hmmm. Hyek is right, we need someone to set the plan and push us forward. I've taken on that role in far too many other games, so I'm really not willing to do it again here. For once, I'd just like to be a player, not chief strategist and herder of cats.

Re: Fresh Accounting
Morning gang.

Well, I've finally hit the wall.  Too much work and too much other stuff going on, for me to give you guys the attention you deserve.

I want to offer a heartfelt thanks to all of you who've participated in this game - it has been a lot of fun with some great characters and players who brought those characters to life.  Melford Vale, particularly the Spider Farm, was just awesome to run as DM, and the adventure against the Succubus in Ansbach was a blast.

A lot more good memories as well, so thank you all for being part of that.

To those of you who run games, I'll be PMing you.  I'm planning on staying in a couple of games - just enough to get my fix, but not enough to disturb me from the type of activity that I need to maintain to build my practice.

I will be keeping this game open for the time being - probably until the end of August.  If my life situation changes I could restart the game, but if not, then I'll probably delete this game at the end of summer - by all means print up your character sheets.  Never know when you'll need a pregen character for another adventure.

Best Wishes to you all!

Mike

Re: Fresh Accounting
Thanks for the info. In case anybody is wondering, Hyek succeeded in burning the place down and pocketing the most valuable items. On the way out, he assassinated the big baddie, throwing all the other baddies into total confusion until they realize they really would like everybody to get along. Peace treaties all around were signed within a month. He then took over all thieves' guilds, which became respected financial institutions.

Or maybe others of you achieved similar or better results. If those results sem to conflict with Hyek's, there's enough fantasy to go around.

P.S. Irael, Hyek stuck with the group because he was helplessly, hopelessly in love with you.

Thanks for the great game Mike, although I remember a similar hiatus a while back and you could not stay away...

Just glad I got a chance to get back into the game after crapping out back at the Spider Farm. Thanks for some good gaming, Borya and I will be hanging out here on RPOL should you decide to open her back up at some time.

Ragnar weeps.

His Quest of defeating the giants and marrying the Paladin Seelah was now to be in question... but he would keep moving forward, hopeful that some day his banner would rise above the mountains!
