Dear god going without internet for so long made my head go bonkers ;-; I missed you guys.

Well, there were two people providing internet service to my area. Two years ago one of them stopped, or so we thought. What it really was was the guy who was supposed to come out and fix the internet decided that he wanted to slack of and not work. We switched then to the new guys, who just now actually decided to cut stop providing service, and they were also the dudes giving internet to the library. And it took a long time for news to trickle down that we could get our internet back.

Also; I'm going to leave for Army boot camp in roughly two months. GET AS MUCH OF ME AS YOU CAN.

Saragh-types get daemon summoning (I asked).  Resealing hell and making it roughly equivalent to Celestia was always one of Saragh's aims (No celestial summoning was there!).  The closest anyone came to actually unsealing hell was Oceanus's attempt to destroy my funnel which would have allowed me to stop gods getting in and daemons getting out!

To be honest most of the ideas I have are of the Heroic type, but the most evil idea I have is a Devil type.

I have a question to pose, as I have not been around here for long enough to discover the answer myself.
Is there any particular order that the many Theo's that have been run go in, or are they considered, just different time-lines.

You can think of it as a tree with many branches, with a few saplings growing beside it.

Yes, there's a central canon (Nat's games) but each of his games branch off into lots of other games, and sometimes whole other trees (Eo, for example, and Creator's games.) and there's cross-polination between the trees (for example, Reboot's use of degrees)

That's the easiest way to understand Theogenesis.

they are not real trees they are metaphoric trees. so that there is something that is not a real tree that is the universe but behaves like a tree that is not a tree.

I view some games to be representative of other distinct trees, and others to be "clones."

Reboot is a clone - mostly because as Anik is the maker of the game, he has the right to make the decision of the kind of tree it is.

But say...Laerad or something is a distinct tree in the eternal forest. From what I can tell Eo was also a distinct tree.

And so is Sakura :P

And Eo takes place on Exodus.

Chalybis, god of Industry, existed both here (by did he exist :p ) and in Theo: Kookhe simultaneously.

Also the notion of returned gods. Foun had been around for a bit, as has Crailek. both existed in other games before this one.

Man, Crailek started three months into the first Theogenesis.  And he was in like 5 subsequent games after that.

Actually, since the Wyrn around now is a Returned God, I'm pretty sure Crailek is the oldest god on Yggdrasil that was a PC. Though I suppose that's only a possibility, as Crailek does suck at actually being what he very well is supposed to be. Then there's me, fucking up my time line by being around. Hmm.

Hrm. For the Fierce God, being an energetic being, diffusion would likely have one of two results: disintengration, possession (of an object or being), incarnation, or having his soul destroyed and the energy he carried being subsumbed by Max, granting him a few degrees.

As for the Heroic Task, bringing unity to Yggdrasil sounds pretty neat. You know, freeing people from corrupt tyrants and directing people towards helping the their mother (Yggdrasil) instead of making war and being so power-hungry.

And the service provider is annoying, and their techs cancelled an appointment, lied about calling us, and now might not be coming to fix it at the previously agreed time. Cable. Turns out the line is damaged somewhere between the cable room and our living room. We've got a cable running for the bedroom into the living room for now (small apartment). It works. But they were really ticking us off with the treatment over the week. Then, when my wife worked from home to make it easier for them, the tech was insulting and bullied her, so I'm gonna call in a complaint Monday. At least everything works.

Or maybe Thro' a Mirror Darkly is more your thing. Featuring a hacked version of Dust's system (hell, a BETTER version of Dust's system), an intricate plot, powerful GMing and twists that you could never expect (let alone avoid) it truly is a masterpiece at work.

I mean, he's basically the USA of Theo now - he has be biggest nukes and the scariest policies. The fact that he is able to counterbalance Saragh and the Unknown is rather frightening the more I think about it. And I intended for him to be a sweet, goody-goody god at the get-go but as a player started deciding to mess around with him a bit and one day *poof!* he becomes the soul destroyer. :P

And you've inspired another monster. :D

Actually Saragh has the biggest nukes, and triple the numbers of any other Pantheon. (There were a LOT of daemons, and soul-reaping them is nigh impossible, which means regeneration for the dead ones).

Na he already found you in rebirth in the eternal party. That would reveal your other realm selves too, given his advanced hunting ability.

In order to remain hidden successfully, unknown would have to both be constantly on the move, as well as focusing a great deal of his power on the stealth. And even then oceanus would only be a step behind you. If unknown isn't always feeling a bit on edge and paranoid, then Oceanus isn't playing his cards right. :P

Oceanus, especially ascended, should be absolutely beautiful and terrible to behold (all Galadriel style), and should be the number one boogyman to daemons and mad beings.

Actually, if I remember correctly, you knew I was there but did not see/find me. I mastered in Stealth as well, Ruse. You couldn't find my realm (either because it was a Major power or because once I'd get a Forsaken power I'd make certain that my land was entirely unfindable), and I'm still fairly certain that yes you would be a step behind me, but I'd still not be found unless I wanted to be.

Actually, and I can tell you this now since rebirth ended, but Oceanus actually saw you. It did take some considerable effort, but before the game ended Oceanus actually saw your vague image in a corner of the party. He couldn't attack you since it was the party, but he did find you.

I'm not joking when I say his detection and mental-protection powers were through the roof. He had approximately 3 major powers worth of it, plus not normal but heightened inquisitor mad-sensing ability too. It is what allowed him to actually not be fully affected by saragh's perception-distortion ability too. Something that no one else knew is that when he became an inquisitor, I gave him a sub-domain of truth to add to his primary celestial water. So he is basically idea for hunting down and fighting evil and tainted beings.

This is no failure or lack of power on Unknown's part. Do keep in mind that every other god including Saragh could not find you. Oceanus was specifically designed to be a predator against dark forces. He was built to find even those dark beings who tried to hide or play with his senses and mind. But this doesn't mean unknown wasn't badass because oceanus aside no one else could find him.

I suspect Nat and Hirsu both enjoyed the Raccoon Ruse scene too. :P

Seriously, go be awesome there. I've never seen you actually play an asshole god. I know you can play one.

I haven't really played a true asshole either. Ma Chao's the closest I got, and I kinda think of him as Oceanus and Ragnar's forbidden lovechild.

Slightly weird that Saragh is now one of the great balancing forces. I just hope he got the funnel rebuilt after Oceanus's destruction of it - that thing was the only thing stoipping daemons getting out of hell.

As for unknown Saragh would have known you were there if it mattered to him.  Certainly after he returned if you were mad and came close he would have known about you.  As Creator said Saragh is probably the nastiest god (he recruited anything he could towards the end of the game to garrison the black fortress and hold the hole into hell he had created).  He certainly can't beat more than one old god at a time and probably not even that (and he can't do anything to Mencuis at all) but he never really wanted to.  He stopped daemon summoning and stabilised hell, he achieved his goals.

Heh. Funny, really, since I was a Mad God in the same bunker as you guys in the end of the game and only a few feet away. As far as I know, no one saw me. Then again, there were tons of things going on. Not saying Oceanus couldn't have seen me, he was probably busy, but overall my specialty was to remain unseen, so if we both are as ascended as the other, then we're both canceled out I would assume. The only additional thing I had going for me was that my actual training skills of stealth might have helped a lot.

Oceanus and Saragh were the only ones who could risk direct confrontation witht he old one. That, and like you said the old one was pinging super-heavy on his inner radar.

Why hunt for small game when it's bear season? :P

Once you've pulled the pin, cancel your paradox. Don't die, basically. I doubt the grenade will kill him, I pulled the pin on two (2!) right in his face, and he still survived. it should make him berserk (the two I did made that happen) but I doubt he'll die.
If you cancel the paradox, you'll avoid the blast, then just re-appear in my realm. It might take you some time to get back to me (and thus, Khor), but I shouldbe able to hold him off while he's crazy, and you're know my realm well enough to a) know where to go and b) you may appear from where you left, since its so close.

I've already lost one life trying this mo-fo, doing exactly your thing now. Take the safe option, and I doubt he'll be dead by the time you get back.

Not sure if you can cancel the paradox like that... At least, I've never heard of it happening quite like that. Am I missing out on some precedent?

You're more of a mental-focused god - even more than Ruse - so this is okay because your primary strength isn't in a hands-down brawl. But in exchange, you get trinkets and inventions that no one else does. You also have perhaps the most ingenuity of all the pc's right now too. Ruse is very, very cunning, but Anik is exceptional at utilizing the resources available to him, and that is a strength you should take pride in. :)

Having no morals doesn't make you hollow, it just means you have no morals or are a bastard who cares for no-one but themselves, which are often the same thing. It could also be shallow, in that you think that the objects of your desire should be yours as you are better than the ones who have claimed them.

Hollowness is caused by having great emotional pain caused against you. It makes you a shell, heartless and with little self-esteem. You constantly seek approval for your actions, even negative approval as it means you receive some form of affection which makes you feel better. You want to achieve great things to show people you are worth something, yet secretly sabotage yourself without realising it as you don't fully believe that you are worthy of the praise. You want to love and find a partner, yet you cannot approach any potential partner due to the fear of your fragile shell being broken more, and you believe that you truly do not deserve such affection ever again. Even if you do find a partner, you sabotage the relationship for reasons you honestly can't explain, unless they are perfectly what you want.

In other words, in order to be hollow, a human needs to be heartless. They need to have their heart and soul shattered into a thousand pieces. That is what it means to be hollow.

It also sounds like you are in some sort of phase. You are young. You will get over it.

Hrm, the intricacies stupid teenagers are revealed. I'm not calling Max stupid, but I never understood people in high school who were all emotionally distraught (and decided to show it in strange ways), to which I refered to them collectively as stupid teenagers.

Personally I think it's because my own method of shutting down and trying to isolate myself from RL is completely the opposite of desperate attention seeking and drama creation.

I had my first Theogenesis dream last night.

It was weird. Myself, Anik, and some god generated by my own subconscious was there. We were playing a LARP, except we used our current character sheets to determine our stats. Like I personally referenced Ruse's forsaken power in the dream, etc.

It gets weirder though.

While we were playing from the perspective of ooc players, our appearances in the dream looked like out of a game. In this case, I looked like Ruse and Anik looked like Anik (versus his Trey self...I think I spelled it right). The third guy was someone generated by my head, not one of you guys, so he isn't as important.

We were on a spaceship or something I think. We had a really large party of people we were with, but they moved off to do something else. Anik and I stayed behind for some reason to guard some cargo, or an important computer terminal, or something like that. Well, the third guy was there too. We suspected aliens or something had infiltrated the ship.

Then, per our suspicions, an alien or three came from a hallway and started a combat with us. The third god with us was a "normal level god" (about Hirsu level actually), although myself and Anik had our master level gods - and their potency.

So Ruse put up a mist barrier (super thin, but harder than steel) around the thing we were protecting. It quite easily resisted the aliens' attacks. Anik also did something, but I can't remember. Either way, by the next round or two the aliens were laying on the ground beat-up. Then we debated if we should finish them off, have Ruse mind-rape them and mind-probe them with telepathy (which was mentioned to be sharp telepathy in the dream, lol), or to try and gain their gratitude by healing them.

We decided to go the healing route. Ruse asked Anik and the other guy if they had any healing capability. Anik raised his hand. I suspected it was like Ruse's ability (lifamancy), so then we actually out the "out of character" fist-on-forehead hand sign on our heads, and had a brief discussion about the urge. Like, I said "does the urge being unleashed exist in this game or not? If not, then both of us can heal them easily. If so, however, the wild magic would screw it up."

We were about to deliberate, when I woke up. :P

What did the other guy look like? You cloud make him a god of dreams.

Heh. Theo-dreams. So fun.

I had a theo dream and I was ruse.

Deep Devourer Ruse of the Mists.

I fucking fought Baphoment and Mammon but then the motherfucking Reaper came up and my controller disconnected and I was like SHIT. But I re-loaded the file and fought him again after I got fresh batteries.

Ruse when you have to fight the Reaper make sure you save first. His scythe attack at long range is hella wicked, it'll like take half your health, but don't get too close or he can insta-kill you. Stay in mid-range and use your mistlances to damage him, but watch out because after you take him down to half-health he pulls out a sword and attempts to rush you, you gotta sidestep and use soul-drain him so that's he's stunned and then you can do a quick combo but don't go for a finisher or his counterattack will mess you up.

Good luck it's a tough battle man.

Hmmm...now how to soul drain...I suppose there is always 5th degree necromancy to help with that. :P

Which reminds me- wouldn't it be neat if there was an Out-of-Storyline arena thread, for players to fight together against big baddies (like Osiris-Ra), or fight each other, etc? I think that'd be cool. We could even have it be an Event with top prizes.

To make it fair, we couldn't fight with our current characters.. we'd have to be given a set amount of degrees, and given additional degrees as we fought our way up, until we had two fully-powered gods going toe-to-toe for the title of Divine Champion.

Oh and hey for powers I would take a good look at how Saragh does it in his games. Which pretty much flat-lines the power.

While you can do more "effect" with a major power than a minor power, that's not the whole point. Basically 'minor' powers all pretty much end up being equal to each other in effect to the other god. (so a lighting minor power power would be the same as a fireball in the damage it causes. Of course non-raw damage powers would also only be as effective as other minor powers in their efforts to do something.

So you could quite literally have minor power which is "Immunity to fire", but in really all that really means is "immune to fire caused by minor powers (and in saragh's game spells).

Major powers basically trump minor powers. So a minor "Immunity to fire" would not block a major power-fireball (basically your major power trumphs the other) but there may be some resistance (maybe 1/2 damage) since they did try to block it, that's up to the system. Now also the other way around a Major Immunity to fire would basically mean you are immune to major power and below fire.

Actually if you want we can work on the rule system together. I have an idea for a system that would be pretty and balanced based off of a power scale. Which is right now: Natural < Minor Supernatural < Major Supernatural < Forsaken Supernatural < Sacrament < Primordial(the non-rule, forces aka GM's say so) < Reality(aka Rules and Setting)

Just give me a bit to draw something up.

Okay! I'll make the game now, so we have a place to put things.

An important bit is that there must be a way to convert characters from Rebirth/Dust/Eo to whatever system we use, since besides the tournament it would be a way to test out your current character's power, and fight theoretical battles. (Like, for example, Oceanus Vs. Sura, Chalybis vs. Trium.)

That is impossible really, your asking for a "fit all system" what can be done is instead the creators (or us) can take the characters and put them into the new format.

But you have to remember what I said before APPLES and ORANGES.

One game char is NOT the other game's char. Chaos Theory and Butterfly Effect actually applies here almost quite literally. Basically the fact that the setting, and the fact that the players were altered (yes some people change with time) is different means that it is impossible to fully take the character.

Even if you are talking just about powers.
For instance. If Trium vs Chally were fighting each using the rules from which they came from... Trium would win simply because Rebirth had a much higher standard of power. (He was freaking Magneto-level metal mover and could literally crush Chalybis by will alone.)

Also you have to consider that some gods just ARN'T made for combat. Anik is a prime example of that.
But beyond that. Sure i'll rtj to help create the system, but I'm not going to GM it. I warn you though that while I may balance the shit out of it, as the primary gm it will in the end be down to your call of what goes in it or not.

Well it shows Nat as logging on yesterday...wonder why he isn't posting?

Well...I won't consider the game truly dead until a month passes without him posting. Int his case, he has until October 24th.

I have yet to get my new character set up properly, heh, but you'll know of him or her soon enough, if you pay attention to the proceedings in the realm of rivers. You may even know him or her name already, if you are particularly astute.

I'm thinking of asking Nat to provide an introduction of him or her. Have a properly dramatic entrance and whatnot.

Or you can bring max back from the realm of rivers, assuming you don't piss of an ahmemait or something.
