Maybe, that is so.  But as a DM I consider it my responsibility to read even the longest of posts unless they are made by Joey Shepherd, but those are novel-length so they don't count.  :p

Yes, I have had experience with those.  However, my time on here is usually limited, but I read them when I have the time.

We had a discussion about this over in the DM's Lounge in the fall of last year.  In some encounters, usually RP based ones, it is not a problem.  But in combat encounters it gets hard.  You can't always have one "boss" NPC for the higher level PCs to fight and fodder for the lower level PCs to go after.  Used too much, it is a fake, it feels fake, and is not all that satisfying.

If new PC and player blood is needed for this region, there are always interested players in RoA, with new ones coming in weekly.  The region won't stay stagnant, that's for sure!

I'm planning on sticking around. Hoping Rayorr feels the same. :-)

Here's the immediate plans for the region:

First the treasure must be split, then the group takes the dwarven artifacts found in the last encounter back to the old cleric in Sulasspryn (near the Galena Mountains - see the Maps and Images page for its location - it is on the middle map).

Then he will reward the party.  DM Kool and I will reward final end-of-quest XPs then, too.

We hope that out-going players and their PCs will stick around at least that long.  It should take no more than a week.

Once those PCs who are leaving move on, DM Kool and I will recruit new players to come in with 3rd level PCs.

We'll also put up new ARPs (Adventure Reply Posts) for the region and move on to Taverns (RPing and rumor-mongering) mode until a new party is formed.

Then we begin anew!

Niiice, one more encounter like this one and Quinlan will be gaining his second ranger level: two-weapon fighting here I come! Any suggestions for a suitable combo? Longsword-shortsword? Scimitar-dagger?

Shortsword-Shortsword I think, to gain double effect of weaponfocus, imp crit etc.

A rapier is a good choice for TWF, you can use your Dex instead of Str to attack with the Weapon Finesse feat, and the crit is 18-20/x2.

But you cannot use it in the off-hand without penalties.

Yeah, it's a -2 penalty to both on and off-hand attack rolls, in addition to the penalties already incurred from TWF.

Use it in your primary hand and then a short sword or dagger in your left.

I agree with Korgan, using two of the same weapon is a great idea - that way, you can take feats like Weapon Focus and Improved Critical and have it affect both weapons.  Just don't try dual-weilding scimitars, you'll have lawyers after you sent by the spooooky wizard who happens to live by the coast, heh.  :p
