Wind of Fate, Crew Quarters/Main Deck, 620 NA

All is quiet belowdecks, with only the light breathing of the sleeping Aalistair and Mirna, each still bloodstained from combat.

The windship sways gently on its northward journey.

J'landria moves into the area, looking for Wraith.  She sees the warrior woman and the priest sleeping and she smiles a little, she moves deeper into the area and looks to see if he's sleeping farther back where he's not immediately visible.

"Let me look at... that," she tells him quietly.  "Athellin will need you to... relieve him shortly."

She reaches into a pouch and pulls from it a few berries, humming a little she moves them around in her hand, all the while purring.  She says a few quiet words and then hands the berries to Wraith.  When he's holding the fruits she looks at the leg and nods, slowly and carefully touching the area around the wound.

"Eat," she says with a gesture.

Her eyes widen at Wraith's words as she watches the skin knit and the bruise heal.  Her ear twitches and she looks up.  Her eyes speak of laughter, but there's no smile on her face.

"I... I have never been called wise," she tells him.  "And usually frustrating instead of calming."

She lets out a short laugh and shakes her head.

"Thank you."

Aalistair awakes with a start, then winces with pain. "I'm still a bit sore," he says with a touch of bitterness. "But I shall be fine," he says with a forced grin.

"I assume by your presence here that we have not in fact crashed during the night and we are still airborne and on our way?" He chokes a bit still on the word airborne.

OoC: I think that Aalistair is now at 19/21 after resting for the night. Isn't it +(Con)HP/night of rest? Plus I'd had a healing spell laid on me before.

The Djaffa receives the clothes from J'landria, rising to take them.  "So I am now to remain as your prisoner?" he asks, wearily.

"I have a question... if you would," she says looking up at him.  "The mask you wear now.  Has anyone else worn it?"

The man smells as he did before... still matching one of the scents of the mask he now wears, and the stink of Rajans on him.  But no surprise, in what seems like a short time, the stink of them managed to get all over this 'ship.

He looks at you, seemingly curious, although it is hard to read him behind the mask, "I am curious why you ask... one of your compatriots asked that very question.  To my knowledge, only I have worn this mask, at least while it was in my possession.  Has another been seen wearing it?"

She purses her lips and her ears are very intent on him.

J'landria sighs some and lifts the other masks carefully and takes the bag back, placing them in, along with the spare clothes that Aalistar offered, also packing them in the bag.  With a few deft movements the bag is closed and pressed back into Abn's hands.  Then she draws a pouch from her belt and pulls a few coins from it.  She untucks a smaller pouch from the larger and places the coins in the pouch and hands that to him as well.  She gestures for him to follow and stops to grab her waterskin and hands it to him.
"There."
Then she turns again and makes the 'follow' sign and leads him out and off the ship, heading to where they said the feast would be.

Down in the crew quarters, one of the larger areas below where all the crew can gather, if perhaps cramped, the little Kasmiran lady looks about at those gathered.

"While we are on our way south, I'd like to see which of you would like to stay on as crew to this windship, our windship," she starts.  "A windship offers great mobility, covering distances in hours or days that would take weeks or months otherwise.  This windship, we could put to whatever purposes we see fit, as we all decide together."  She seems nearly quivering with excitement and eagerness, though stills somewhat as she adds "we do, of course, somehow need to keep up the funds to keep this windship operating, but my estimates are that we will be able to accomplish that, if we keep our eyes open for such opportunities on our travels."

She takes a deep breath, "So, what say you?"

There is a good deal of hustle and bustle about the windship over the next day or so.  Minor repairs to be made, and Zosha is able to get some good deals on supplies and, with the aid of Wraith and Aeletheros, materials for repair.

Those who wish are able to visit, briefly, with Zarkosh, who is still weak from his illness, though he does show pleasure most especially at seeing Mirna and Jaxar again.

The time passes quite quickly, and it seems so soon that it is time to be back in the sky once again.

Taking a cue from Aeletheros, as well as Zosha, Wraith decides to remain on the ship as well.  As the rest of the crew wanders about or meets with Zosha's ailing kin, Wraith paces to and fro on the deck, taking the baked, arid expanse below them.

He peels a few splinters back from where the blade of a weapon missed its mark and struck one of the masts.  There are also, here and there, some dark stains on the deck, which Wraith is certain is blood spilled during the savage battle that recently ensued.

The Marukans, other than Rammid and Rioniv, are almost hopeless crewmen.  They stumble, and bungle, but slowly, as the days pass, they seem to begin to catch on.  And they are willing to work hard, and seldom complain about the conditions.

After a week of training, and maneuvering the windship around the rolling hills and woodlands surrounding the beautiful city of Cymril, they are perhaps ready for a longer voyage.

"I have secured a fare for us.  Apparently, the Wilderlands routes have had increased attacks by bandits of late, and we have some merchants who would like to negotiate with the Thralls in their city of Tor for guards directly.  We will be providing them with quick transportation.  They would like to leave on the 8th, and I've told them we will be ready."

After the many flights out and about, Zosha has arranged a final one to Sindar.

She spreads her hands, somewhat apologetically.  "It would appear, that though we offer a limited service, word of our low rates while training our crew have gotten out."  She shakes her head, "While the transportation we offer is not glamorous, it is fast, and others in the windsailing business would ask that we desist.  And, true, what fees I have collected are scarce enough to keep the Fate running, and us supplied and fed.  In any case, we have completed our training, and as part of my agreement with some of the merchants in the area, we will be running one last trip to Sindar with a few passengers."

She pauses, looks around at those gathered.  "Many here have expressed desire to assist our friend J'landria with her noble cause to recover the lost youngling of her people.  While I would be remiss if I did not search for ways to keep us funded along the way, that will be my part.  Of this resourceful group, your job is to do the actual finding and recovery!"

The stop could be as brief as it takes to let the passengers disembark, but Zosha would like to stay for a couple of hours to see if there might be any merchant opportunities.  Others are welcome to stay or disembark as they wish, provided they are back at noontime.

Wraith considers seeking out Nas Nasri, his errant friend, but thinks better of it and remains aboard the vessel.  Although this is not the first time that Nas has vanished without warning, it always makes Wraith uneasy.  "Perhaps Satada got him," Wraith smiles and shakes his head.  "It is far more probable that he succumbed to the blandishments of a young lady courtesan, somewhere during his travels."

Aeletheros remains on the ship as he really doesn't have anything he needs to do off ship and he is lacking in the requisite funds anyhow. He manages his time by checking over the ship's systems, rigging, and other necessary things for smooth flying. If any crew are around he will also continue to instruct them on the finer points of windship piloting.

The first part of the night passes quietly, a light breeze stirring in the rigging, rocking the windship lightly against the anchor ropes.

As midnight draws near, a great howling wind comes up, buffeting the ship, straining against the ropes.  It blows then ebbs, sometimes sounding like shrieking, and sometimes it seems almost to whisper to you as you awake from fitful sleep.

Wraith awakens and snatches his blade from beside his bunk.  He pulls his spangalor over his head and wraps his belt around his waist.  The air, cold and damp, sends a shudder through his bones.  "Enough games," says the airman to himself.  "Show yourself or stop haunting my sleep."  He hastens from his cabin and seeks the rest of the crew.

Aeletheros hasn't taken the time to strap on his armor as he has been observing the surroundings through his magic sight. He smiles faintly at Wraith and replies; "Yes, I too was awakened. There was a voice in the wind, it said 'Welcome to the Ship of Fools, soldier... your search for adventure will land you dying in a wreck far from home.  Yet you know not what they hide from you...', at which point I rose and observed my room with my magic sense. There is some strange residual magic in the wind. I remember tales of magical winds and storms, perhaps remnants of the Great Disaster. The truth of the matter of course remains obscured. What did you notice?"

J'landria's eyes are open and she looks at the others who've been awakened.

She rolls from her bunk, landing on the floor in a crouch, like a large predator ready to pounce.  A growl whispers from her throat and she stands.  She looks around the room, prowling, pacing, seeking out any indication or reason for the disturbance.

She stops near the men and her voice is thick, almost hard to understand from the growling that's sliding into the words.

"Something is toying with us," she snarls.  Then she takes a deep breath, her ears are cocked back in annoyance.  "Said the youngling was dead, tortured to death."

With the meal ended, and the suns set, a weary crew finds they ways to their bunks and cabins.  Sleep comes quickly for those still sore from just healed wounds and hard work repairing and resupplying the Fate.  Mirna arranges a watch, much of it taken by Jaxar with his sharp night-eyes, though it passes uneventfully.

Morning comes cold, though a warm breakfast from the galley breaks the chill and warms the mess hall.

The diminutive Kasmiran is early to the mess hall, joined by Rioniv shortly from the kitchens.

Re: Wind of Fate, Crew Quarters/Main Deck 49 Zar, 620 NA

The cartomancer shuffles his zodar, fingers deftly shifting and interleaving the cards.  He then draws two, and places them face up on the table.

The crimson moon, Jhang, and the wizard.  He contemplates for a time before speaking.

"It would suggest we have a battle in store for us, perhaps a magical one.  Though the wizard here may represent another fate before us, related or not."

He appears puzzled, or introspective.

In reply to Athellin (msg #163):

"I'm sure it's nothing we won't be able to handle!" Mirna gets up to walk around the deck and ensure there's nothing unusual about.

Athellin nods slowly, quietly gathers up his cards, and also climbs up to the upper deck to help prepare for the departure.

J'landria follows Athellin and points to the cards.

"Can anyone do that," she asks confused.  "Are the cards somehow magical?"

Aeletheros looks over at J'landria as he also makes his way to the deck; "The cards are probably not magical, his ability to read them most likely is. That is one of the strong points of Cartomancy; divination. I don't pretend to understand it or even believe it 100% but it never hurts to be cautious."

The cartomancer regards J'landria, thoughtful.  "I've never put that much thought into it.  Anyone can do it, I suppose.  There is some art and concentration in drawing the cards, and further effort in interpreting the result.  The cards have their own magic, though I believe the true magic is in what the represent."

Her ears are perked forward, but her expression reads of confusion and disquiet.

"May I touch a card," she asks.

"Of course," he smiles back, his hands again showing the surprising deftness despite their weathered look as he shuffles and fans the cards in the blink of an eye.  "Choose one, if you would," he holds them out to J'landria.

She hesitates, as if she's afraid she's going to be shocked or something, but then reaches out and pulls a card from the deck.  She turns it over and looks at the image, rubbing it between her fingers, and even lifting it up to smell it.  She seems almost baffled, but she turns it around and around, looking at it from all sides.  It's almost as she seems like she's trying to solve some kind of puzzle.

Athellin looks at her choice, a small smile on his face.

The card depicts a white haired and bearded man, holding a great book and a staff, and an enigmatic look on his face.

"The wizard," Athellin explains as J'landria investigates the card.  "Represents magic, sorcery, and, likely more appropriate in this instance, uncertainty or possibly confusion.  Hopefully we are addressing some of that?" he smiles.

She nods to Athellin, still trying to understand what she holds.  Trying to figure out how it tells the future and how it makes magic.  She pulls from a pouch some of the herbs she uses and looks at them in her other hand then back to the card.

"This is just a focus," she says finally.  "Like the herbs and berries."  A rumbling purring sound rolls through her throat for a moment.  "Does the magic come from your God or Gods?"

"Yes," he nods, "Just a focus, perhaps."  He shakes his head and shrugs, both slightly.  "We Rahastrans truly have no gods, unless you consider Fate to be one.  Where the magic comes from, I know not.  It may be that my brother would know, he was always more in tune with the deeper mysteries than I."
