Mission: Demon's Reign

Your arrival upon the planet of Kalabiin was greeted with the Imperial outpost overrun with minor demons. From your front view port you can see a gapping chasm in the middle of the Imperial outpost spewing forth fiends from the Abyss. Such an action was enough to motivate your squad to deal with the incursion, but knowing that it had cost the Empire hundreds of thousands of credits put you on a moral high ground so to speak in dealing with the fiends and who was behind this.

There wasn't enough room to drop you into the outpost itself, due to the swarm of flying demons circling overhead, but a mile or so from the concrete walls proved safe enough. You pilot, Hoba, waves you off as the defenses of the drop ship needed to be manned against possible rogue demons or looters. As you disembark, the stench of the Abyss fills the air once beautiful countryside. Already small humanoids are rapidly approaching your position, drawn to the sound of the dropships engines. Giving you the thumbs up, Hoba took to the air, using her laser cannons on the approaching winged demons that threatened to swarm the ship.

War was Hell, so they said...but they never faced off against a demon.

Mission: Demon's Reign

Captain Sylvax snarled at the demons swarming the Imperial outpost, drawing his assault blaster. "Orders are to seek out the cause of the incursion, and remove it at all costs. I don't need to remind you of Imperial Law, but this is an emergency situation, so try to avoid civilian casualties. Blast any demon that looks at you wrong." He spoke clearly, touching his helmet to activate the full helmet option. As the ship leaves, he begins to unleashed heated plasma upon the charging demons.

Alex looked up from his book, "Delightful, I was expecting undead." He shook his head. "Ah well, seems like instead of heaven sending its forces, they sent us rather." He tucked his book away in his book holster like it was a weapon of some kind. "Everyone ready to spread the good word of violence?"

Mission: Demon's Reign

Before the Argent Claw's side hatch had fully opened, the massive muscular form of Sharog leapt from it's interior, and landed heavily on the ground. The subtle whine of servos beneath the slabs of dark green armor echoed forth, helping the burly Orc accept the impact smoothly. And though the Demons were clearly visible, and bearing down upon the squad, the veteran soldier still swept her eyes over the battlefield, hunting for more threats that might be less obvious.

"Contact forward! Engaging!" she barked, a creature of pure military training in the heat of combat, as always.

Rushing forward, she took the fight to the enemy. She was a shock trooper, and Sharog was curios to see if these horrors could withstand an overwhelming assault, and not succumb to terror as most soldiers did. The roar of her Assault Railgun answered her earlier bark as she closed with the fiends, ready for blood.

Mission: Demon's Reign

Dropping clear of the ship along with the rest of the group Lars watched Sharog and Svear move from the group to engage and rather than join them took advantage of what might be their last breathing space for a good while. Ignoring the weaponry fire overhead and the sounds of the onrushing hoards he pulled clear a set of digital binoculars and began scanning the surroundings for the best route to their objective. The flight in had given them the bird's eye view but it was rather different on foot.

Mission: Demon's Reign

Captain Sylvax's barrage against the oncoming horde begins to mow down no few demons, though Sharog joining in on the battle with her assault railgun rips apart a carnage demon who was getting too close. Ssvear manages to avoid the flying lemures that are trying to tear him apart. It seems as if Ssvear should use its breath weapon if it want's to attack.

Hoba's use of the dropships laser cannon rips a hole through the aerial demons, with some of her swift maneuvering preventing them from latching on to the ship. Lars' use of his tactical abilities show that there is a ravine running close to the outpost, but it would make them easier targets for the demons if they converge on it while the team is below. In the distance, you see a winged form much larger than a dretche approaching your team.

Re: Mission: Demon's Reign

When the carnage demon fell under her volley, Sharog immediately checked her sights for the next closest threat. Seeing a large beast that was clearly bigger than the rest, the big Orc followed her instincts and training and took the fight right into the teeth of the enemy. Hit them where they think themselves strongest, put them on the defensive, and wreak havoc on their lines. The life of a shock trooper was a brutal ballet.

"Captain! Large hostile incoming! Engaging!" she called over the comms to Sylvax.

She knew her job, but he was in command, and had a wider view of the battlefield. She was just a weapon. If he pulled her back, she would halt her assault at once.

Captain Sylvax snorts at the oncoming demon, drawing out his two laser pistols. "Keep the area clear of the grunts. Sharog, keep that hostile under pressure. Ssvear, see if you can't break up that cloud of demons up ahead. Lars, what is the tactical situation on terrain? Hoba, keep the ship safe and clear of hostiles." He spoke, issuing commands as he points his pistols at the upcoming demon.

Re: Mission: Demon's Reign

"We've got enough incoming that I'd say we're going to eventually run out of ammo if we stay here and try to clear the area one at a time." Calmly scanning the ground between them and the ravine he nodded after a moment, "There'sa  ravine close to the outpost that could give us some cover on the approach but we could get overrun if we lingered in there long enough for them to rush us." Straightening he stowed the binoculars before lowering his visor, the integrated visions briefly blurring through assorted spectrums as he eyed the onrushing demons to check for any oddities before he nodded ahead.

"That direction is the quickest route with the least foes at the moment. All changes given we're up against flyers but it's the best of a bad lot of options."

Re: Mission: Demon's Reign

Captain Sylvax looks like he is considering his options, letting loose twin blasts from his laser pistols against some demons who were getting too close. "Over run here or grabbing some cover, not much of an option. Alright team, you heard Lars, keep up our fire as we retreat to that ravine. Shoot and move people!" He ordered, indicating which direction they were heading.

Ssvear begins to focus on airborne targets between the party and the ravine, clearing the the path for the party by running strafing passes back and forth between the ravine and the parties current location. He was small but he had an advantage that others in the party, he could breath energy forms every round without worrying about ammo supply.

Ssvear tries to kill as many targets as he can, those he can't kill, he tries to draw away so that the party can get to the ravine.

Re: Mission: Demon's Reign

Alex tapped a button on one of the side cases he normally kept on him, just to be sure he could armor up in the event things got too close. He trudged along pulling out an odd firearm that was more his sidearm than anything else. He was fairly ready to plug a few demons should they get too close but he had not brought that much ammo. It was looking like it would be a slog so ammo was at a premium.

So he focused on making sure that he could respond if anything got to close and went for someone. His job was to preserve life first, take it second.

Re: Mission: Demon's Reign

With orders received Lars took off at a light lope, observation gear away and guns clear. He did not shoot until things would be an actual impediment to their path and focused on looking for thinner clusters or those broken by the advance of others in their group to focus on. Occasionally he whistled to himself as he tried to force away the thought that they were dealing with a potentially planetwide incursion, mostly because that would mean they would be at this for months.

Re: Mission: Demon's Reign

The team makes their way towards the ravine, the Argent Claw flies higher, blasting away at any area demons that try to follow it. The larger winged demon continues to fly towards you, though it seems once your party is out of sight the pursuit by the lesser demons seems to trail off. If you fire against it, it seems to be actively trying to avoid your ranged attacks.

OOC: Two rounds before winged demon is close enough to engage in melee.

As the team moves to the gorge, you quickly leave behind the hordes of demons who appear to be less interested in targets that they can't get a chance to rip apart. The large flying demon approaches closer, almost within range to do battle with the team.
