Re: OOC:  Chat.

Hello all.  I'm going to play a Soulmech (Half-Elf appearance, I picked the best portrait I could to convey the image).

I'll be going Monk all the way on one side.  The other side will be either Fighter or Ranger (or perhaps a mix of both) and then the Gundancer PrC the rest of the way (once I qualify for it).

Vorneyl definitely originates from the Dragon Empire (core worlds perhaps?) and is definitely not a former barbarian or from some backwoods borderworld out on the rim (ie not an Outlander).

He keeps his politics to himself for the most part but seems able to function both inside and outside the strict lines of the law.  He's a bit of a wandering "gunslinger" type who makes ends meet through various jobs: bodyguard, caravan/merchandise guard, occasionally an enforcer for a syndicate (freelance), bounty hunter etc.

Hey, everyone. Just a basic old human here. Ranger/Pilot from a planet that has been producing elite mercenaries since the old Star League.

Very professional, very Lawful Neutral, which should be obvious if you've known her for any length of time.

Re: OOC:  Chat.

Vorneyl is also reasonably Lawful Neutral in his own way.  Good and Bad are subjective to him but he generally keeps his word and sticks to the deals he makes.  He doesn't break the law just for kicks but tries to work within the rules.  His soulmech nature does lend itself to a preference for Order over Chaos.

He seems to favor The Judge as a diety, though perhaps with less emphasis on the good side relative to the lawful side.

As a request: It has been awhile since I played a soulmech and I was reviewing their extensive dos/don'ts list.  I was painfully reminded that only the Repair skill and the Repair arcane spells actually work on Soulmechs to regain HP.  I don't know if a Soulmech can use his own Repair skill on himself (patch himself up maybe?) but if others could pick up a bit of Repair (or if we get an Arcane magic user who could pick up a couple of Repair spells) it would be much appreciated.  ;)

Hey there everyone who is here, and those yet to join. Silver Half-Dragon at your service (or you are at mine, depending on how you want to see it). As is, I have 4 levels in both Fighter and Sorcerer.

Regannos is Chaotic Good, and originates from Aelding. Everything else you will have to wait till game start to know :P

Cool... on both bit of news.  I guess it'll pay off to invest some skill points in Repair then.  ;)

Perhaps Regannos (as a Sorcerer) might invest in a few low level Repair spells as well (or maybe we can find a "Rod of Repair" in our travels).  ;)

The last time I played a Soulmech, I grabbed the Dragonblood Feat and picked up a level of Sorcerer... but that really doesn't fit Vorneyl very well.

Cool!  That should help to at least take some of the string out.  I know that Sorcerers are limited/restricted in their spell lists and selection, so I appreciate all the help I can get.

Also I know that Half-Dragons have a troublesome ECL to deal with, so it is doubly appreciated.

Well, the GM was nice enough to give me the option of dropping the +8 to strength to +2 to drop the ECL down one level. Really it made sense given the fact that melee combat really doesn't fly in this setting (or at least, not that well).

That's nice.  ;)  I agree that Strength just doesn't have the same impact in a sci-fi game where most people are packing some kind of firearm.  And ECLs in general can be real killers.

Of course the XP cost for Spellware (or in Vorneyl's case Robotic Upgrades) can also cut into one's character level as well.

Vorneyl may be a Monk, but he's mainly a pistols specialist (using the ol' Gun Fu style).  So his focus is much more on Ranged combat as opposed to Melee (though with Improved Unarmed Strike working for feet, knees, elbows etc. it is nice that he'll always be considered "armed" for melee even if his hands are full with firearms).

Personally I'm going for a slower but more heavy hitting build, my spells are a mixture of support (I picked up See Invisibility and Knock at 2nd level) and offense with Lesser Orb of Cold and eventually Fireball when I can cast 3rd level spells. I also have True Strike and Power Word: Pain for finishing off those nasty runners.

My weapon (possibly) is going to be a Plasma Rifle. Hey, being born Half-Dragon does have its benefits :P.

Re: OOC:  Chat.

Is "Aristocorp" a canon DS organization?  If so, what sourcebook is it in?  I'm assuming Regannos isn't concealing his membership (employment?) in the Aristocorp organization.

Based off of Aria's last OOC post, are we going to be serving as members of Ragannos's entourage/retinue?  I'm cool with that if that's the case.  It seems the position of pilot is taken by Aria.  I'm guessing that Vorneyl could serve as a bodyguard (I haven't finished his skills yet, so I'm not sure what he can bring to the table yet besides his combat abilities).

Vorneyl's weapon of choice is probably going to be a pair of Blaster Pistols (with perhaps a Sonic Pistol and/or a Heavy Slugthrower Pistol for backup).  Also it seems that Aria is a more traditional wilderness Ranger while Vorneyl is definitely more the Urban Ranger type.  I'm planning to go Monk-4|Urban Ranger-2/Fighter-2 with an eventual destination of Monk|Gundancer later on.

As for organizations, Vorneyl is something of a loner (not in personality but he "walks the earth" following his own path rather than joining formal organizations).

Re: OOC:  Chat.

Well, how we start is up to the GM, though he did tell me we are starting within the domain of Sarava (this was after I decided to be a silver Half-Dragon mind you.)

Regannos is a member of an Aristocorp, the particular one is one of my own creation. It is a privatized military origination, out side of the Imperial Legion or the Imperial Police. It is called Daguam di Thrae vur Xarzith or in common, Shield of Air and Ice. I suppose it is a possibility, but given we don't know how the game will start and we don't have all our players, its hard to say.

Also, the definition for 'Aristocorp' is in the Guide to the Galaxy Source book, on page 29.

House Sarava was chosen before the game began, due to certain things in the game that shall remain nameless at the moment.

Reg just chose a good House to align with.

I don't know how the Mechanist is going to turn out, so I may just DM fluff an engineer to help you guys if you need it.

Currently though, I do have another applicant, and he has expressed interest as a melee combatant.  Working with him on that, but I think it will work out well for the group.

Anyways, most of my starting credits are taken up by by Plasma Rifle, the thing is damned expensive, but its awesomeness compensates for that ^^.

If anyone has any great ideas on what I should do, toss them at me, please!!

And what are good weapons that won't break my bank? And is it possible to mount a weapon on my cycle?

Actually I'm pretty much a DS novice as well.  While I was involved in another DS game here on Rpol a ways back, that game died pretty soon after starting.  So mostly my DS books have been gathering dust (which is why I'm psyched to get a chance to use them finally!).

Since my character is a true "gun bunny", if anybody knows of some neat and/or practical Ranged Weapons feats outside the basic DS and PHB books, please let me know.

Aria, I'm very glad to know that you have the Repair angle covered.  While no "techie", I imagine that Vorneyl will know some basic repair as well just out of self-preservation.

As for working for a Silver Dragon Aristocorp, I doubt Vorneyl would have any problems with that.  While he can be a drifter at times, Vorneyl doesn't have anything against working for a legit corp.  A job's a job.  ;)

EDIT: Besides, there may be company perks in the form of readily available robotic upgrades (or at least employee discounts on the upgrades).  And a gunslinger is often only as effective as the "tools" he has at hand.  ;)

GM: I don't remember much about the campaign as it was quite some time ago.  I do vaguely recall mindflayers playing a role but I don't recall them taking over.  Also I seem to recall that mine was the only Soulmech.  But then again, the game died so soon after starting and it was so long ago, I don't remember much (it isn't even listed among the dead games anymore during searches).

Based on how often I need to use the effects, I may take the Rapid Metamagic feat from Complete Mage later on (once I have a 12 in Spellcraft) which will let me do that an unlimited amount.

I have the Twin Spell and Maximize Spell metamagic at the moment with plans to at least Quick Spell in the future.

Ok, the basic premises of the group is thus.

You were all hired by Regannos's Aristocorps about three months back, for various reasons, but the primary one was to protect him.  The vast majority of Daguam di Thrae vur Xarzith is on assignment on Aedling, protecting a massive project by the House in their shipyards.

Sister Aria was hired for her piloting/combat skills.
Vorneyl Kenath was hired for his combat skills and his mechanical nature.
Jouhan Calader was hired for his melee combat abilities and for his unique talents.

Aria, are you taking more than one level of Mechanic?  If so, could you update your CS?

Other than that, Vorneyl is the last one we are waiting on.  If we can get it done today, we will probably start tonight.

You were all hired by Regannos's Aristocorps about three months back, for various reasons, but the primary one was to protect him.  The vast majority of Daguam di Thrae vur Xarzith is on assignment on Aedling, protecting a massive project by the House in their shipyards.

How long have we been employed (ie how long as the group been working together)?  Are we still fairly fresh hire-ons (and thus won't know much about each other)?  Or have we been together long enough to know a few things about each other?

Is Regannos assigned to the protection of the "massive project" based at the House's shipyards (and thus we have assumed the secondary priority of protecting this project as well)?

You have been working together for the past three months.

Not much to do really, just ensure the Regannos is kept safe.  Nothing much to do, really, keeping the trash of the cities underbelly away from him.

You are all currently on the planet Arisith in the Ganamedae system (roudhly 80 light years from Aelding's star system).  The planet is a metropolis, due to its rather small size (think our Moon size), and has been a part of the house since before the Great War.

As one Blaster Pistol user to another, just a couple of reminders/suggestions:

1. Since the Blaster Pistol is a light firearm, if you use 2 hands to fire it you get a +1 on ranged attack rolls.

2. Did you pick up a Laser Sight?  It can provide another +1 to ranged attack rolls.

Ooohhh.... that sounds promising.  Any chance Aria could work her "mech magic" on Vorneyl's Blaster Pistol?  ;)

I'm trying to squeeze every last drop of attack bonus I can get for Vorneyl, then again as a "gun bunny" Vorneyl lives for his pistol (hmm... I wonder if he would have a name for his "precious"? ;)

Yeah, although he only has 1 at the moment.  Also I'm partially kidding about him being quite that much of a "gun bunny".  He does have a more practical minded side beyond his firearms.

But... I'll have to give it some thought.  ;)

There we go, first thread is up.

One thing I would like to remind you is that, while you are adventurer's, and hence, always on the look out for danger, there are laws concerning military grade weapons in the Domain of Sarava.  A pistol or two can be explained away, a plasma rifle will be a little harder.  after all, where there is guns, there's trouble ;P.

There is, it is called "The Net", and most major planets have instant access to it (due to portals that stretch throughout the Empire, any populated planet, that has been heavily upgraded technology wise, has access to The Net).

As for research,  In this campaign it is part of gather information, but the skill check uses your intelligence modifier instead of charisma on the check.

Well, in theory gun kata could exchist but it would ask years of research of gun fire situations and stimulation to create anyway reliable 'movement' which allows able dodge high chance of success enemy fire along with counter fires fired towards enemy gun users (no doubt accuracy comes from practice itself than movement and 'killing power' from gun itself).

No worries, just checking in, (been playing Kotor 2 for the past few days...can't wait for The Old Republic to come out).  Anyways, from the ransom message, it is obvious that the truck is to be turned over to kidnappers.  You can either wait for them to come get it, or go into the tunnel after them.

I am sure Sister Aria is capable of stalling the engine quickly enough that no one would be able to steal the vehicle.

Sorry, got called away unexpectedly on work. Haven't had a chance to update.

And I'm assuming 100,000 in gold would weigh far more than we could carry, with a bag or without. Figuring a single gold weighs about an ounce, each of the 1000 GP ingots weighs about 60 pounds, for a total of around 3 tons.

Now I'm not opposed to having Vorneyl take the point or to accompany Jouhan in approaching these new arrivals but that wasn't my understanding IC (and I could have just missed it or misinterpreted).

Yes I have seen that Rpol as well.  If you have a dedicated GM and a core group of Players who are equally dedicated, then even a pause in the action or posting can be overcome.

Sometimes RL happens and sometimes writer's block happens and sometimes one feels a bit stuck regarding what to do next... but if people retain their enthusiasm, games can bounce back.

They are 60 ft away from Jouhan, 70ft from the rest of your group.

Ok, for such an unorthodox, but highly expected maneuver, we shall require the following.

Regannos, you can secure yourself in time to avoid any checks that might throw you out of the truck.

Vorneyl, You have initiative over Sister Aria, so there is no need to check, unless your going to be hanging on outside of the vehicle.

Jouhan, reflex save dc 30 to avoid the vehicle damage of 19, plus possible other bad, bad things.

*smiles*  Well, I must say, I rather like the group we have.  I shall be away until Sunday afternoon, so lets see what is going to happen.

Well, Jouhan likely rolled somewhere where hecan join melee combat quickly. So rolling under the truck may not be wisest ideas consider the driver may decide to have another swing with it :P. Also Jouhan takes the 8pts dmg, that's for I used Vigor for.

Especially not a Boss like Regannos who strikes me as the honorable type.

I don't think Vorneyl much cares for the idea of being left behind either.

Of course I just realized that Vorneyl can move 50 ft, so he could have moved 40 ft to get within 30 ft (for PBS) and then with Improved Shot on the Run he could have moved back 10 ft.

But hopping in the back of the van seemed like a better or more fun move (some vaguely A-Team about this).  ;)

Oh. I thought 'this side of the bridge' meant they had already crossed the bridge. Would have been more careful if I had known I was skidded the van sideways down a narror bridge.

Questions:

1. Many vans nowadays have openings in the roof (skylights or sunroofs of a sort), is this van similarly equipped?

2. Can those of us in the back get clear shots at the fleeing cultists from where we are or do we need to exit the van first?

3. I assume exiting the van from the side will take a move action (not as important for Vorneyl since I have Improved Shot on the Run)?

4. How many cultists are left (and how many of the survivors are heading to the pyramid)?  Are there any cultists alive but cut off from the retreat to the pyramid due to the van's position?

Question; if I activate my urban strider power would it make me automatically get past the van to chase cultists or do I get bonus to the roll? Urban striders mentions that any urban terrain does not affect my movement speed (and crowds) but not sure does van balancing on crafted bridge count as 'urban terrain' :P. Or do I simply get bonus to any checks get pass the van or am I in the same side as cultists are and so can go asap chase them?

Jouhan, you are on the proper side to pursue your foes.

1. Many vans nowadays have openings in the roof (skylights or sunroofs of a sort), is this van similarly equipped?  No, this is more along the lines of a uhaul/armored car.

2. Can those of us in the back get clear shots at the fleeing cultists from where we are or do we need to exit the van first?  Exit first, through the front of the vehicle, unless you feel lucky on your athletics/acrobatics checks to get out the back.

3. I assume exiting the van from the side will take a move action (not as important for Vorneyl since I have Improved Shot on the Run)?  Yes.

4. How many cultists are left (and how many of the survivors are heading to the pyramid)?  Are there any cultists alive but cut off from the retreat to the pyramid due to the van's position?  6 gang members survived, and are fleeing, all of those that survived are on the side closest to the temple.  Well, 5 after Sister Aria's attack kills one of them.

A prisoner may be useful to your group...maybe...  The cultists are about 60ft away from the vehicle, and about to sprint back to the pyramid.

Do I even roll damage for the leg shot?

What happens if the leg shot turns out to be a Critical Hit (figures, when I'm trying to only wound I roll a Nat 20 and then roll a 19 to confirm the Crit)?

Depending on whether my first shot (a definite Critical Hit) ends up killing the cultist, my 2nd shot is either a 2nd try to "wing" a cultist (if the 1st shot kills) or it is a straight "shoot to kill" (if the 1st shot only wounds).

Actually I just realized that Vorneyl is probably with Regannos:
quote:
With the combination of his mechanical legs and his monk training, once he was clear of the van, Vorneyl was able to move very quickly (nearly twice the average speed for a human) to close the distance between himself and the remaining targets.  Vorneyl kept his blaster pistol trained on the survivors as he said in an emotionless tone, "I would strongly consider embracing the spirit of cooperation... assuming you wish to retain what limbs you have left."

I picture Vorneyl as running to catch up to the Boss (once the cultists were down).

Given this, what are the range and number of targets around Vorneyl?  Obviously Vorneyl wants to keep his distance since he's a ranged weapon user.  I can probably use Improved Shot on the Run to facilitate this.

Well if Aria is really gone, we could use a "techie/pilot" (someone with good piloting skills and good mechanics/repair skills).

I hope that Regannos may still be with us, otherwise we could use a dragon-born to help tie our team in with the higher up Dragon movers & shakers.

Also do we have someone with actual Magic-Use such as a Wizard or Sorcerer (was Regannos a Sorcerer)?

Excellent!  It looks like the whole gang is back again.

Aria, I didn't mean to suggest we cut you loose.  I'm more than happy to have you back with us.  My remarks were based on the fact that you had been silent for a few months.  But if you're back, all the better.

Also Regannos, glad to have you back with us as well.

That said... I wouldn't object to adding 1 or 2 new Players if the GM has a mind to recruit a couple more.

Regannos, are you a dedicated magic user?  I know Jouhan is a psychic warrior type with a focus on Melee and Vorneyl is a gunslinger pistol shooter while Area is our resident pilot/techie.  I wasn't sure (aside from being the boss with the Dragon connections) what Regannos's areas of expertise were.

Hey GM, did the first Blaster shot appear to have no effect on the blob or did it just seem like the blob was affected but could take the hit & keep going?

I ask because if Vorneyl's first shot appeared to have no effect whatsoever on the blog, he probably would have redirected his 2nd shot back at an Acolyte (rather than try to futilely fire a 2nd ineffectual shot at the blobs).

Quick question: What if anything did Vorneyl find when he searched the bodies?

As for the future: I would suggest that if we successfully rescue the white dragon (I hope!) that that should lead us into the next adventure.  Perhaps this White Dragon has "connections" or there's some special reason the WD was taken in particular.

As for types of adventure, I like travel (and it gives Aria a chance to showcase her pilot skills).

It could be fun finding out later that we're working for the Big Bad Red Dragon Emperor (but not knowing it initially).

However I'm open to ideas.

For travel, it doesn't matter to me where that would be. It might be cool to explore in the Outlands, maybe from Outlands station, so we can have access to all 10 domains.

For showing off piloting skills, I'm working on a walker about the size of a motorcyle. Like a tiger with the middle chopped out and replaced with a bucket seat or something. Something small enough that I could 'ride' it pretty much anywhere we go, so I can always be piloting.

Heck, I could see Drow scuttling around in little spider-mobiles the size of those little European mini-cars. Or should I not have said that where the GM can hear?

On that note, how long does it take to Craft something? Is it the same as standard fantasy? I would think you could do things faster with modern tools, but I didn't notice any rules anywhere.

Generally, it takes a similar time as in standard fantasy, providing that you have the resources.

Now, there are a few ways to speed it up though.  Robots that are pre-programmed to craft things are very helpful, though slightly pricey.

What would be interesting is more along the lines of a robo mount for your character, that you control via your data ports.

I was thinking of bringing in Mercenary Contracts that your organization can acquire, perhaps even a spacecraft in which to travel, though it would be a company ship of course, it would prove interesting.

Very big +++ on the spacecraft even if its 'company' owned. It would make sense given Regannos standing and linage concerning the company. Particularly if we could find upgrades, trophies and such for it (even if there purely cosmetic, I still love to do it).

If that is the route we go, I'd love to design it.

Indeed, want some basic model of ships which is the remodeled unique ship of it's kind. Like Millenium Falcon from Star Wars. In basic model is fast supply transport ship but Han modified it to be even faster than that. Not to mention decorate it's interior and such.

Anycase I belive most likely we get some 'junk ship' (well used some older model ship) which we collect parts and money to upragde it and such. Even with Regannos connections spacecrafts likely costs a lot. So there firstly needs to be reason to get us a spacecraft (related to important job or such).

I've got a walker design written up that costs about 10 grand to craft. About 20 weeks to build, though. I should be able to control it through my datalink if I put the right computor systems in it, right?

I would imagine that within a certain range, yes.  Well, walkers are notoriously slower than other type of vehicles, so that is one of the things you have to deal with if you want to go that route.  However, for flavor, I do really enjoy the concept of a pet robotic tiger that you can ride around on.  I would probably give bonuses if this is properly role played.

It will just shorten the encounter if you do.  Another idea is shooting the stone ceiling...both you and Sister Aria...  Falling stone has been known to kill people in large numbers.

Also, as I will be away for a few days, come up with some activities for your characters for...a 3 month period.

Regannos, I am letting you design the ship for your group.  It is up to you if you want some input from the others.  This is going to be big enough for quarters, star caster, a docking bay capable of hosting a huge size drop ship plus cargo room, bridge, brig, science laboratory, library, and a medical bay.

Sister Aria, if you want to work on your tiger bot, this would be a good time to do that.

Re: OOC:  Chat.

I imagaine that Vorneyl would want 3 things:

1) his own quarters (don't have to be lavish)
2) a well equipped machine shop and repair station (a soulmech's equivalent of a "med bay")
3) a firing range (perhaps with moving targets, something like the phaser holodeck shooting range used on ST:TNG)

The firing range is probably the most optional but it will help him hone his skills.  Actually we could combine the idea of a firing range and Jouhan's dojo into something like an X-men style "Danger Room" that can simulate (holograms?) different scenarios as the user wants for training.

Also I imagine that Aria may want her own mechanics/electronics shop/bay and that could easily double as the "soulmech med bay".

As for what Vorneyl will be doing (hopefully he survives)... I'll have to think about it some more.

http://wiki.eveonline.com/wiki.../9/96/Damnation1.jpg

http://www.ravestats.com/publi...marr-damnation-1.jpg

For those who may be curious, that is the Amarr Tech 2 ship, Damnation class. It looks both sleek and menacing at the same time. A good fit I think ^^.

Keeping with the theme there, for the look of the shuttle, I would propose the following. Again also an Amarr ship, Vengeance class. Very sleek, and the writing on the hull just looks neat.

Re: OOC:  Chat.

Both ships look kick ass, I would vote for Damnation. It may not be 'long' as Vengeance and slightly less sleek but it's shape looks more 'draconic' than vengeance one and also looks 'sturdier'. Also we could add odd carving glyphs on both sides on Damnation ;). Also perhaps shape tip of the ship more 'draconic' in appearance.

Quick question Vorn, your using two plasters (Two Weapon Fighting) and using rapid shot, right?  Shouldn't that net you at another attack, although at a -4 penalty on all attacks?  Otherwise, it would be a -2 penalty if your just firing one weapon using rapid shot, no?

Actually no, he's using 1 blaster but gets +1 to attack for using a light weapon in 2 hands.

He's just been using Rapid Shot (along with Improved Shot on the Run), so only -2 to attack but only 2 attacks (at his highest attack -2).

He doesn't have a 2nd blaster on him, though I suppose he could use a non-blaster he picked up (these Acolytes don't seem that hard to hit or kill).

Do we have a rough idea of the AC and HP for the Acolytes (I'm suspecting its kinda low)?

I ask because if Vorneyl got the impression that his shots didn't have to be that accurate to hit (and it didn't take much to bring these Acolytes down)... then he might try pulling one of the salvaged weapons and going for Rapid Shot & TWF even with the -4 penalty.

I'm assuming the future computor world would be like texting on steroids. If someone has a 'public' line open anyone that 'looks' at them could send them a message. Sort of like the later versions of Shadowrun, if you're familiar with that. With a link to glasses, or directly into your head, you can 'see' virtual advertisements when you walk by a store, read the menu, even see people who are only virtually there.

Sweet... considering I was actually at 4th level (due to the XP cost of Robotic Upgrades) that actually boosts me just enough for 3 levels (7th level with about +160 Xp to spare I think).  ;)

I agree with Regannos that this has indeed been fun and I look forward to the next part of the story (especially once we get fitted out with our own set of "wheels" via spaceship).  ;)

Although I suppose that raises the question of XP costs for upgrades performed, does it cost XP for a Mechanist to user her Upgrade class ability on a soulmech (I see that they can be used on robots)?

As for Vorneyl, I'm probably looking at Monk-7 | Ranger-3/Fighter-2/Gundancer-2

Ahh right... for a moment I couldn't remember is that was for each member or the team as a whole.  Sorry about the confusion.

So can we go on a bit of a "shopping spree" then?

Also if we want to sell old gear (to be replaced by new gear), at what price can we sell it?  For instance I'll probably want to pick up a more powerful magic blaster, so how much could I get for my current +1 Magic Blaster Pistol (or do you not bother with "depreciation")?

Another question, do the rules in the DMG for "special materials" affect modern DS equipment?  In particular I'm wondering about stuff like Mithral and its possible uses in modern/advanced DS armor (I'm looking for a way to raise the max Dex bonus allowed by the armor).

Re: OOC:  Chat.

Welcome Kalic.  Having revised Vorneyl somewhat, he now has some roguish like characteristics from his Scout levels.  Vorneyl is also a pistol user (though he focuses on Blaster Pistols instead of Laser).

I suppose the divine magic element of your Paladin could prove useful to the other characters as I don't believe we have any Divine Magic in play at the moment (although I'm not sure it can benefit Vorneyl as he's a Soulmech).

When you say Paladin of Freedom, will he be formally in one of the Paladin Orders serving the Father, the Judge, the Mother, or the Warrior (Unification Church)... or perhaps the Creator (Dualist Church)?  I believe the Paladin Order serving the Father is called SOLAR.

As a Rogue (with Sneak Attack dependent often times on flanking) perhaps Sister Aria might be willing to modifier her Ranger to use the alternate rule/ability for Rangers found in PHB-2 (the Distracting Attack at 4th level that replaces animal companion and allows "ranged flanking attacks")?

I'm a human mercenary scout pilot type. Between Kalic, Vorneyl and I, we should have the sneaky stuff covered. With Ranger and Mech, I have some nice rogueish stuff. Not so much for picking pockets and stuff, but Aria is great at getting past electronic sensors and stuff.

Sorry, no sneak attacks for me.  I get fighter feats instead.  I was thinking being a paladin of the Mother, since she ties into the Elves general faith, and that is how I was raised.  I am waiting on the DM to see if I could play a Neutral Good Paladin.  As for skills, I guess a general route would be good.

That's cool by me.  With some of those heavy weapons, it only takes a couple of lucky shots to really take a chunk out of someone's HP (including the PCs).

Is he notorious (meaning he has a rep as a pirate that group 1 would have at least heard rumors about)?

Is Kalic part of group 1 or group 2 (ie will be he joining the original team or is he part of Xaraxes's crew)?

On a different note... I just remembered that Vorneyl (and possible a few others) picked up a few items from the dead cultists during the previous mission.  I think Vorneyl managed to gather the following:
3 Slug throwers (not sure what kind) plus spare ammo
1 keenedged dagger

Also potentially some undisclosed "looting" from a few other dead cultists.

I was wondering what these items might fetch if sold off?  Please note that I'm not trying to be overly greedy or penny pinching, it is just that after calculating the cost of re-equipping Vorneyl (upgrading his gear) I'm a little shy of the coin I need to cover it.  So I'm just checking to see if maybe I can squeeze a bit more gp out of Vorneyl's opportunistic looting.  ;)

Group two is building up.  I have a decent amount of interest, with some interesting characters.  I was thinking the first adventure was capturing a good ship for your pirates to use on future adventures.  Your Character Sheets are open when added to the game, so have at it.

No problem, I think the mix-up was mine... I was thinking Hero's Companion for D&D (which I believe is out of date anyways).

Of course there may be a Player's Companion for D&D as well (there were so many 3.0/3.5 books out that I know I never managed to collect even a significant fraction of them).

But in any case I need to go check my (much smaller) stack of DS books... I think I might have the PC.

Just wanted to point out that since Kalic is taking Rogue (I assume the Martial Rogue still has things like the Trapfinding ability), I decided to go a more "fighter" based route and dropped my earlier intention to add Scout levels.  Basically Vorneyl is a Monk/Fighter mix (with a dash of Urban Ranger as before).

My thinking is that Vorneyl is a former/ex-Legionnaire (good military record & honorable discharge).  He's been brought onto the Team as the "gun muscle" (as opposed to Jouhan who is the "melee muscle").

[Private to GM: Also as question; does dampen power work vs lasers or plasma rifles? It reduces dmg to minimal dice value. Meaning if plasma rifle does 4d6+10 then it does 14pts dmg automatically (as if rolled nat 1 with dmg dices). Dampen Power affects spells, spell-alike and psionic abilities and also supernatural also I think. But thematically speaking it could also work dampen down 'any' energy attacks targeted to Jouhan (or team if they are included in radius of the effect).]

Just noticed something from Guide to the Galaxy... GM, are you using the Rank structure for Legionnaires listed on p. 43 of the DS GttG in the Organization section's listing for the Imperial Legions?

EDIT: Also Kalic, just wanted you to know OOC that I'm not trying to be overly difficult or a dick... that's just Vorneyl's unpolished, gruff manner (he's like that with everyone).  I'm not going to play Vorneyl as particularly prejudiced but it would also be unnatural for him not to at least express his potential misgivings/suspicions.  I just wanted you to know that I don't plan to be a constant pain in the butt all the time (ie Vorneyl's IC attitude does not reflect his player's OOC attitude).  ;)

Wow, I totally misread some posts. I'll have to edit my last post. I seem like a total bitch.

It actually wasn't that bad.  Yeah it was perhaps a bit "blunt" but then Aria has never struck me as a woman who minces her words.  While I don't think the job chosen was as universally panned as the undead job was (which was not selected)... I still felt that it wasn't entirely out of line for Aria (or someone else) to inquire or even press Regannos on the reasons behind his choice.

That said, I could see where you might want to edit Aria's post to "soften" the language a bit so it doesn't quite come across as harsh (especially as Reg is "the boss").  ;)

But I have to admit that I found it refreshing to see someone actually ask the "hard question"... it isn't as if Vorneyl hadn't been thinking along similar lines but he chose not to "make waves" (either that or he might have decided that once a Dragonborn's makes up his mind, further discussion isn't likely to get anyone anywhere).

However that said... I didn't think it was a bad question for Aria to ask (I was waiting for Reg's reply before posting again but I was planning on having Vorneyl be impressed with Aria's moxie for asking the question... and perhaps also for the way she asked it ;)

It was a lot of fun though while it lasted.

Re: OOC:  Chat.

I'm really sorry to see you go Regannos, though I understand that RL can demand more time than you can spare for Rpol.

GM - I have no objection to bringing Saxon into our group since it looks like his pirate group has gone AWOL.  Will Saxon be able to fit into our (at least slightly) more legit merc group?

Also with Regannos gone, are we still part of the same DracoCorp?  Maybe Regannos can become an NPC (either with the group or maybe the "Fixer" for our group)?  That way we stay part of the same group/Corp and if Regannos's player even comes back he can take the character back.

Now as for the group leader, I agree that we should have a PC take charge... but I'm not sure if Vorneyl is the best candidate.  True he has some leadership like qualities but I honestly see him as more of a follower who advises (perhaps like an Executive Officer who makes suggestions to the Commanding Officer).

I'm not saying I won't take the job if people want me to, but does anyone else desire to make a bid for the group leader role?

Re: OOC:  Chat.

I PMed Saxon, so we shall see.  I would hate for all his work to be for naught.  Technically, he is evil, but that does not mean he couldn't work out in the group, just would have to watch his actions.

Regannos is free to return should he ever have the chance to RP, but I think his character will become the groups sponsor / mission controller while he is away.

As I said, if anyone else wants to take the leadership roll, they are free to vie for it.  I suggested you for reasons that are DM prerogative, but I am open if someone feels that they can push the group forward.

I can agree that it would be better for my character to be more of a support, given my constants. Though it would also make sense character wise too, so it works great all the way around.

Saxon, you may increase your level to 7, and your total credits for spending is 30,000, not 10.  Just like the others in the group.[Private to Saxon: There should be enough to purchase your level adjustment out, and still be level 7 if you so choose.  I posted it earlier the characters total experience, but since this is gestalt, your level adjustment counts as +1 for the buy off option.]

Anyways, I think that Vorneyl, of all the characters, is the most likely to take up leadership in this group, unless Aria really wants to.

Being a professional mercenary, Aria would be more of an employee type. Unless she would be leading a small mercenary group.

As a player, I generally try to avoid 'I'm in charge' type roles.

Well I guess that settles it... it looks like Vorneyl is the new "tactical leader" of the team (with NPC Regannos still in the background making strategic/logistic decisions for the group).

Looks like I'll need to brush up on my Diplomacy skill.  ;)

[Private to Vorneyl Kenath: I was under the impression that it was a busy building. A guy walking down the hall into a room picked up the last few lines of a conversation while reading a file containing what you have your your descriptions. Normally, to my understanding such simple role play would not require rolls. If Saxon was trying to sneak up he would have a invisibility and a silence on a pebble he can toss away. I'm really not trying to screw you guys over. Though, if you would like a roll for any reason you are more than entitled.]

Re: OOC:  Chat.

Started making my own brews finding out that my first US ancestor was a brewer. Starting with a drink called Sturm which is effectively lightly fermented juices. About 14% alcohol by volume. So I am going to start working on them one at a time going from the most early liquors historically on up. Perhaps I will make something of this. But I was wondering if anyone has any know how on the subject. Reading alot but it pays off to get tips from a brewer.

Wish I could help Saxon but the closest I ever came to brewing were some odd mixes made in a chemistry/biochemistry lab and you sure wouldn't want to drink that stuff!  ;)

Re: OOC:  Chat.

Which is why I am starting with Sturm. You can get fairly narly stuff. After a bit of research I found that the number of deaths due to over stilled liquor due to home brewing was minimal but during the prohibition it went way up as people thought "hey, if I keep burning off all the water wouldn't that make better liquor?". Apparently they didn't know that it made methanol.

Sturm is hard to over do as you rely on the yeasts natrual ability to consume the sugar. It stops at most 21% alcohol per volume. I added a dry wine yeast and raw sugar to kick it up that high. Its fermenting right now making my kitchen spell like a sweet blush wine.

Going to do four jugs of Sturm before I go on to a beer. I want to start with the first ever made beer which did not use hopps so it was very sweet but didnt keep at all.

later I plan to work on my medicinal beers. I found out that there are all kinds Percy use to make in his distillery. He used very famous blends, one of which called for hot chili peppers. But I want to try to go into coffee bean and Coca mixes before I get into things like wormwood and gensing beers

And then, there was fewer.  Vorneyl has withdrawn due to Real Life problems, and I wish him the best.  But that does leave us without a "boss" type character.  Is anyone willing to take over, Aria?  Jouhan?
