Gear realizes that any help will be good and after all Autothicon knows that this won't be the worst risk he'll take tonight.

Very well son of Malkav, but we must hurry time is crucial now.

and with that Gear will follow him and hope that he made the right choice.

Re: Gear in Neo-Stygia
The vampire leads Gear carefully through the ruined building until they are in the basement.  Evidence of vampiric activity, and quite a bit of suffering abounds in this area.  A few other vampires respectfully and fearfully cower out of the way.  One of them is clutching a mostly-drained person.

Sloan walks towards a carefully, if crudely, dug tunnel in the wall.

This tunnel has been constructed over the last five years.  There is only a 5 inch thick wall at the end between the tunnel and the Manse of Sublime Endings.  I'm sure you can get through 5 inches of White Jade, can't you?

Re: Gear in Neo-Stygia
Gear does some quick mental calculations and smiles, perfect, this should take him right into the soulsteel ore vault as it tends to be called.  Of course others would refer to it as death row for ghosts.

Orchestrating a breakout on his way up couldn't hurt after all and could possibly help.

Thank you, you've just ruined the old spook's day and I don't know about you, but it brings a warm fuzzy feeling to my heart.

With that Gear goes down the tunnel, upon reaching the wall he activates Fault-Finding Scrutiny.  He careful studies the wall and with a nod to himself activates his bracers to create an essence saw so he can quietly dismantle the wall.

Re: Gear in Neo-Stygia
In just moments, Gear is through the wall, and hearing the welcoming screams of the poor souls who are slated to become soulsteel.  Many are ghosts, but there are quite a few living "criminals" down there as well.  All are pleading to everyone and no-one for mercy or release.  Nothing about the decor could make anyone even remotely comfortable, as Gorol was always fond of making sure their is enough stress on the new soulsteel ore.

A ghostly jailer with a skeletal bodyguard and a zombified war dog start their patrol circuit in the horrible dungeon.

Regret, What was done can not be undone.

Holding the large rifle at the ready Gear takes to the shadows waiting for all three to be together.  Once they are he looses a three round burst taking each one in the head.  As they drop he slings Regret across his back and silently and unseen releases all the cages.  With that done he stays in the shadows and makes his way upstairs.

Re: Gear in Neo-Stygia
With the guards dead, the Dark Manse of Sublime Endings is now free for Gear to roam.  Gorol usually keeps to the top of the tower, near where the other Abyssals are housed as well as the forbidden room.  Patrols will be thicker as he gets higher in the tower.

Re: Gear in Neo-Stygia
Arriving at the monstrance room Gear begins to cut the door off its hinges.  While he is surprised he hasn't run into real resistance yet, he knows that once he sets off the device the pulse it releases will bring them all running.

Taking the door off and putting it to the side, he makes his way into the the room with its Gothic trappings.

He takes the device out of his pocket places it on the nearest monstrance and activates it, releasing a pulse that is fueled by the monstrance's own power to weaken them all.

He then waits in the shadows for the reaction he knows is coming.

Re: Gear in Neo-Stygia
As Gear waits, a ghostly wisp of air passes through the room.  Gorol Thrice-Damned suddenly appears standing in the center of the room, his daiklaive in hand.

Well, well, well.  What have we here?

He pauses, then carefully holds his daiklaive out.

Crush and Destroy, Balefire Pyre.

With that, the daiklaive shatters, and reforms as two giant soulsteel gauntlets, each with three gun barrels over the fists.

He then turns at looks right at Gear.

Hello, O Compassionate One.  Have you come to rejoin my service?

Just then, the Young King runs through the door, now out of breath, his daiklaive already drawn.

What's going on?

Re: Gear in Neo-Stygia
Energy Flows out of Gear's armor as he activates his essence projection shield at full power.  At the same time His anima flares out into full iconic with the gears ticking away time.  He begins to circle about the room in time to the inevitable ticks of the gears, leaving his two opponents situated so they can not attack him from opposite sides as he approaches a monstrance.

You know why I'm here, hand it over willingly and I won't be forced to snuff out your pitiful existence, fractured remnant of a time forgotten.

Gear then waits in full defense for the attack that he expects to be his answer.

I... see.  No.  You cannot have it.  Instead, you will die here, horribly, and your shard will move on to someone more worthy.

As Gorol circles Gear, he adopts the stance of the Lord of the Underworld, and then charges, covering the intervening distance between himself and Gear in a flash, his soulsteel-covered fist lashing out at Gear's head, green flame pouring out of the gun barrels.

The Young King takes this time activate the Eye of the Maelstrom, with essence lines flaring around him as they will guide his daiklaive.

Here it goes.

13:02, Today: Gorol Thrice-Damned rolled 10 successes using 19d10 with the White Wolf Exalted system with a target of 7. Attacking Gear.

Young King activates his persistent parry charm.

Gear rolls around the attack only to be shocked as he is engulfed in the flames.

Trusting to his armor to take the brunt of the attack gear kicks off the ground and unleashes 4 full auto shots at the young King, hoping to take him out of the equation quickly.

12:48, Today: The Dark Gear That Times Creation rolled 3 successes using 16d10 with the White Wolf Exalted system with a target of 7. MA + Dex dodge, +2 auto success.

5 success

well that roll sucked

Re: Gear in Neo-Stygia
The vicious punch sends Gear flying backwards between two of the monstrances, and his impact against the wall sends a spiderweb of cracks through its bone and jade structure.

The Young King frantically parries the shots that come his way, even flaring his essence and resorting to Incomparable Sentinel Stance to parry a shot that would have almost taken off his head.

You're going to pay for that, bastard!

Gorol takes this time concentrate his Essence further, activating a charm known as Deathlord's Omnipotence.  He flickers, and appears to be at once completely solid, yet at the same time as incorporeal as a ghost.  His voice whispers into Gear's ear, as, just for a moment, he appears right beside Gear, leaning in so Gear can hear him, only to return to his original position as he finishes speaking.

I think I was correct.  You, or your shard, will rejoin my service today...

Re: Gear in Neo-Stygia
A lucky shot doesn't equal a won battle old man.

With that Gear lands and rolls dodging by a monstrance as he does.

He then addresses the Young King, As if you could make me pay, all you are is a puppet to his will.  You can't even see that he is afraid of all of us.  He was once as we were and knows our power is greater than his, He is nothing but an echo of what we can become.

Gear then sends two more burst his way, giving him time to think about what was said, but not long enough to see the manipulation in it.

The other two burst of fire he sends Gorolo's way.

He then leaps to stand on top of the monstrance, standing in a pose that seems to say, lets see what you've got.

Re: Gear in Neo-Stygia
Gorol calmly strikes the shots his way back to Gear, his every motion contemptuous.  He then appears right behind Gear once again, and lashes out with a vicious downward strike trying to break him and end this immediately.

The Young King does consider Gear's words as he parries the shots, though he has to dive out of the way of one that almost slipped past his guard.  He then stands up again, and holds out his daiklaive, and is about to speak when Gorol appears in front him him, one hand on the blade, the other covering the Young King's mouth.

What are you thinking?  Releasing that here, now, is stupid, even if he hadn't destabilized the monstrances.  Do you wish me to kill you first?

The Young King shakes his head, backing off, with even more food for thought.

14:23, Today: Gorol Thrice-Damned rolled 14 successes using 19d10 with the White Wolf Exalted system with a target of 7. Attacking Gear Once Again.

You need to roll an attack and then your dodge against that attack twice, as he reflected both shots back to you before his strike.

btw - assume 2 die stunts for this.

Re: Gear in Neo-Stygia
Gear Dodges the two reflected attacks with no effort,  He shoots at Gorol's descending fist trying to force him to veer off, but still takes a good deal of force from the blow.

See how he fears what I have to say and note how he fears the destruction of our Monstrances.  They are the only hold he has on us, with those gone how much longer will he be able to keep control.  He needs our power to win his war and he needs the help of these  things to keep us under his thumb.  Watch and see the truth of this now.

Gear back flips away from Gorol spending for attack actions to spray four of the monstrances across the room with full auto essence fueled death.

13:34, Today: The Dark Gear That Times Creation rolled 10 successes using 20d10 with the White Wolf Exalted system with a target of 7. reget attack

How many monstrances are in the room? And are there enough for each known Deathknight in Gorol's control?

Re: Gear in Neo-Stygia
Gorol growls, and whips about, flickering about as he attempts to parry each of the monstrance shots.  Two slip by, and the hit monstrances seem to vibrate harshly, further destabilized.  Those two Monstrances could likely only take another hit or two before breaking for good.

Gorol flickers back to Gear, eyes burning with abject hatred, attempting a chokehold from Gear's weaker side.

I think you will find that the Monstrances are the least of my holds upon your pitiful souls.

The Young King backs off, and starts circling Gear and Gorol slowly, now very, very thoughtful.

Re: Gear in Neo-Stygia
Gear tries to parry the two deflected shots with minimal success, he does manage to twist away from Gorol's hand as it shoots out towards him.

Gear's footing becomes more sure as he release this rest of his essence in a massive surge.  He quickly flips backwards kicking off the wall and releases a barrage of gunfire that covers half the room.

See how his toys break and the rage it fills him with as he acknowledges he is undone.

Sinking 40 motes into infinite MA mastery, all MA attacks, dodges, parries now have 10 extra dice and 5 auto success, I think I'm out of motes now.

4 full auto attacks on a part of the room with four monstrances.

Re: Gear in Neo-Stygia
The Young King still just watches as four of the Monstrances shatter.  Both he and Gear feel a weight lift from their souls that they never knew was there.  With that, the Young King smiles.

You know... I think you are correct.  Perhaps it is time to free ourselves from this slavery.  Open the Mouth of Oblivion, Lost-

As he is in the process of releasing his soulsword, Gorol appears right behind him, and viciously drops a double-handed axe strike to both sides of the Young King's neck.  Bones crack, and the Young King drops to the ground, limp but not dead, his release silenced before it could happen.

You will suffer for that for a long time, Young King.

Gorol turns back to Gear, and then raises his hands, pointing the flaming gun gauntlets at Gear.

Time to die.

A non-stop series of balefire blasts erupts from the ends of his gauntlets, each blast a rocket launch in miniature.  As Gorol flickers about, the blasts seem to come from every angle possible, and then some.

Gear knows he can do nothing for the Young King at this point but grins as he sees the rage that this betrayal has incited in Gorol.

Gear leaps in to the  air twisting just right so that each rocket can go shooting past him, to slam into a monstrance.

As he is coming down he unleashes another hail of fire at any remaining monstrances, finishing the job that Gorol was so kind to help with.

See your plans die and weep specter.

Re: Gear in Neo-Stygia
Seeing the Monstrances falling apart all around him, Gorol levels a cold glare at Gear.

This is only a minor setback.  And with the damage you have caused, I see no reason to hold back any further.  You will not leave this tower alive, fool.  Release the fires of suffering, Balefire Pyre.

With that said, the gauntlets themselves ignite in a horrid green flame.  This spreads along Gorol's body, until he is nothing more than a being of skeletal bale- and pyre-flame.

You will burn for all enternity.  Even your ghost will suffer, burning forever, even as I forge you into a new weapon for my armies.

The very air around the Deathlord starts igniting, and the floor crackles and burns as he walks.  Traceries of burning ground show how is still flickering about with Deathlord's Omnipotence.

I will not let you even leave this room.   You cannot jump to the Underworld in a shadowland, and you will not get past me...

Gear steps forward as well.

I already said it, you have no power we can not overcome. Regret, what is shall be.

Regret dissolves into a shadowy form that wraps around Gear's armored body.  The shadows reform into chains of adamant and he is holding 2 pistols in his hands.

He walks to the Young King's body, grabbing a piece of shattered monstrance as he hoist him onto his shoulder.

He looks Gorol in the eye, This can go down easy or hard, which way do you want it?

Gorol smiles underneath his mask.

Shouldn't I be asking you that?

As he finishes speaking, he roars, and slams his fist into the ground.  The whole area is engulfed in horrifying flame compounded by flame.  The walls crumble underneath this onslaught, and a few ghostly servants within range finally (if painfully) get peace in their existence.  The whole top of the Dark Manse of Sublime Endings is structurally weakened.

This is unblockable and undodgeable, and if you get hit, you're Incapacitated (and suffering a lot).

Two things of note - one: The Young King was trying to kill Gear just as much as the Monstrances.  Two:  He has no way to defend himself, though this attack cannot kill.  Thankfully you only need 9 successes to avoid the conflagration (if you have a Charm that can do it).

Gear sees the blooming fire and begins spinning in place, the few loose chains around his body flying outwards as he does.  He leaps as he spins and the flames come in.  As the dreaded attack approaches around him, it is pulled into the vortex of air he is creating.  The force of the flames channel downwards carving a hole that reaches down to the basement.

As the attack subsides Gear drops down the hole holding his chain enmeshed arm against the wall of the hole to slow his descent just enough to make it a survivable fall.

He then takes off at full speed down the tunnel he used to enter the Manse as he fires shots into the walls to create a collapse of the manse that Gorol's attack had primed them for.

Thankfully for Gear, the Dark Manse of Sublime Endings comes crashing down.  Gorol will likely be buried under the rubble for a while, and it will take time to rebuild the structure.

At the end of the tunnel, Sloan stands there, shadows covering most of his features.

Congratulations, Abyssal.  While it would premature to say that Gorol has fallen, it appears his tower has.  Come, there is another tunnel in this haven that leads to the subway system and out of the city.  It would be wise for you to take it.  I can relay your success to the Resistance, as well.

With that, he turns and heads towards another part of the basement.  Already it is empty, and devoid of Kindred.

Well, you made it.  It is academic on escaping from here.

It will be a difficulty 7 Int + Lore roll to figure out how to complete the binding of Shard and Soul Sword, and a difficulty 7 Dex + Lore roll in order to kill the Young King in such a way that does complete the binding once you know how.  He will be incapacitated for at least six hours anyways, so Gear can recover some Essence.

Re: Gear in Neo-Stygia
Deep in the subway system Gear stops and lowers his burden to the ground.  Chanting prayers to Autotchthon as he goes about his work, he draws symbols around the young king, informing the pattern spiders where to pay attention to.  He then uses his bracers and crafting charms to begin the work of fusing monstrance pieces to the soul sword, carefully etching essence circuit paths into the metal itself.  After recrafting the weapon to its new purpose and with the very air humming with the resonance of the body and soul, he shouts the final prayer to Autotchthon and plunges the sword into the Young King's heart.  A pulse of essence washes through the tunnel as the shard of exaltation clings to the soul turned sword, through the magics of the monstrance.

With that he leaves the body behind as he continues his trek home, carrying the newly forged Sword of Exaltation.
