Actually, I think the *skeleton* crew (that is, the absolute minimum amount of people required to run the ship) for a Star Destroyer is somewhere in the 1500 or something ridiculous. So no. An R2 unit, a Saurton, Goku and Dr Who couldn't pilot a Star Destroyer after spacing its crew.

All Dr Who would have to do is wave his magic wand sonic screwdriver.  Heck, the Ziploc Fingerman could pilot it.  All he'd have to do is rub his face across the top of a Ziploc bag, and BAM!  Full control of a Star Destroyer!

The 1500 would be for everything. Shooting all the guns, manning all the sensor stations, shield control, tractor beam control, engine room, medical centers, detention centers etc.

If you just wanted the thing to move, only a few people would be needed; as long as nothing went wrong and no one attacked while you were inside what would amount to a really big practice target.

Re: OOC 2
A crew of a dozen or so probably could point a star destroyer in the right direction and make it go.
But I suspect that those ships require a constant team of engineers and astromechs going around fixing things as they break.  Ships that big must be absolute beasts to keep running.

And, yeah, if you want to shoot, you need guys.  As the opening to Episode IV showed us, apparently EVERY gun is manned.

The Empire isn't much for automation, it seems...

Beware of trying to make sense of the Star Wars setting:

http://www.darthsanddroids.net/episodes/0290.html

quote:
What sort of technology and economics system makes a droid-pulled hover-rickshaw an economically viable means of passenger transport?

(Or any fictional setting, for that matter.)

Re: OOC 2
Plain and simple Star Wars is fantasy cleverly disguised as science fiction.  And all "technology" that isn't outright magical (i.e. lightsabers) is based on WWII-era vehicles.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, this ain't Star Trek.  You'll find that techno-babble really doesn't solve problems here. ;)

Although, to answer the quote, Mittens, I can think of several reasons.  It's fairly obvious that both repulsorlifts and droids are fairly easy to mass-manufacture. And neither seem to require much in the way of refueling.  Repulsorlift craft don't even seem to have any landing gear, meaning that they're likely meant to always hover.  That speaks to pretty efficient use of energy.  And in 6 movies we only saw R2-D2 being recharged once. ;)

It would probably be cheaper to have a droid pull an un-propelled repulsor sled than waste the fuel and deal with the noise of slapping an engine on it (recall how loud Luke's speeder was).  Also, never underestimate the lengths someone will go to in order to appeal to tourists. ;)

Although, now I have a new question...  What do all the slaves do all day?  I mean, it seems to me that it would be more cost-effective to make droids do all the work since they don't eat or sleep and if they break, you throw them away and get a new one.  I don't recall seeing Shmi Skywalker doing squat except sitting around at home.  In a fairly spacious house with ample food to feed unexpected guests...

I hate the prequels!!! >_<

Re: OOC 2
Episode three was the most entertaining to me of the prequels, but then I guess it's because by then you knew what to expect.

Cant think of why one would bother much with child labor slaves outside of, you know, the usual cheap manufacturing without wanting droids.  But I guess some possible reason for slaves in general are,
A) Habits from lower tech worlds.
B) You have conquered a race of badasses and have nothing to do with them (Hi wookies).
C) Droid boob technology has not caught up with Twiliks, and that is also a bit of A if the... whole insane EU is to be belived. (no offense, Agial;il),
D) "Oh, EVERYONE can have a droid.  I have living unwilling labor and therefore I am FANCY"
F)  The most common reason.  They need a blunt instrument reason to make the audience not like someone. "See, they have slaves. That means they are the bad guy.  Phew! almost had to use characterization to show someone was a Bad Guy for a second there, close call!"

That darn Watto, wanting to be paid in cash that he could actually spend where he lives.

I'm kinda iffy on the whole EU in general.  I like the STYLE of Star Wars (which is clearly in proper play in this lovely game).  I don't like having essays worth of text told to me about how if someone without the force so much as looks at a light sabre funny it will somehow kill them, up to and including exploding violently.

Re: OOC 2
The only reason nwhy to use slaves is that it is a selfbreeding workengine. Just add some low tech food and voila. Just why horses and other riding animals are present. They dont break down a lot, you dont need spare parts and such.

So they could be useful I guess on low tech poor fringe worlds. Everyone else uses droids, wageslaves or blackmail.

Also, on Tattooine, Jawas will steal your droids but they won't steal your slaves. ;)

And slaves don't typically get sand in their joints...

Mostly, though, I think the Hutts just get off on lording their might over other species...

I will kill every ocsinian we ever meet if I don't get chomper back some how.

As an aside, is that the only exit from the parking structure?

Wow...
You're gonna need a lot of blaster charges...

There's, what, the homeworld (Farana) and three colony worlds of Ocsinin?  Here's hoping you get Chomper back! O_O

Although, after you finish your genocidal rampage, you'll probably get a nice job offer from the Emperor. ;)

And, no, this isn't the only exit, just the closest to where you guys parked.

He did say every one they meet. ;) So it's not like he'd be going out of his way to kill them.

Good luck dealing with installers!

You've given me enough of a hook to hang an action on, so don't worry about the game.  I can NPC you until you're up and running again. :)
