Re: 5: Flying Under the Radar
Roice heads for Doc's shipyard while the rest of you remain in the cantina.

(dot dot dot)

Despite his concerns, Roice's trip to Doc's is short and uneventful.

The shipyard sits on the outskirts of town, situated next to a large starship graveyard.  The Ocsinnin are an adventurous species and tend to be hard on ships, so starports on Farana collect large piles of derelict craft that aren't fit to fly anymore.

Which means good salvage material for enterprising scraphounds like Doc.

However, there are simply some things that have to be ordered and now it seems that one of the shipments he requested for finishing the work on the Tracker and the 720 has arrived.

Roice meanders through the yard, looking at all the half-finished and/or partially disassembled craft around the lot.  Doc was a popular guy with Spacers and got a lot of work.  Fortunately, he'd been able to fit the freighters in.

The Tracker and 720 are being kept in a hangar at the back of the lot, their home for the last month as the mechanic and his assistants have been repairing and refitting the two vessels to the group's standards.  Roice can see the grizzled older man, dressed in his norm--a grease-stained coverall--talking to a second man, a human, with a blonde buzzcut and a 5 o'clock shadow (even though it isn't even noon yet).

The two men appear to be discussing something (probably terms of delivery).  The blonde guy pauses to spit a stream of brown liquid on the dusty ground before resuming his side of the conversation.

Re: 5: Flying Under the Radar
"I think we're clear," he says quietly to the group through the comm.  "Whoever that was is either very quietly tailing me, or gone.  Reconvene at the hangar, at your leisure."

Roice walks up to the two and nods.  "Doc."  He looks at the newcomer.

Re: 5: Flying Under the Radar
"Roice," Doc nods back.  The man doesn't stand much on ceremony and doesn't bother with many honorifics.  "Glad you could get here so quickly.  I think our friend here is eager to get back to his cushy office back at KDY," he chuckles.

"Looks like we're still waiting on a few more components for both ships; bits for that medbay you wanted on the YV-100, and additional maneuvering systems for the 720.  But this delivery should put us in good standing to have the ships ready in another couple of weeks."

Doc looks almost uncomfortable as he says, "Which brings us to the matter of the bill, son..."

Metzz had been working with Doc the whole time.  He was not one for socialising anyhow and was here to get the Tracker operational.

At the sound of money, Metzz throws a glance at Roice.  "Perhaps the Vice Prex can deal with this?"

After hesitating for just a moment, Roice says, "Just sealed a deal that should get us enough to settle the month, I'd be glad to discuss it with you in private."  He glances at the KDY rep.

Re: 5: Flying Under the Radar
Daeg grimaced before spitting another stream of hands juice to the deck with an almost shocking accuracy. "I take it to mean you can't pay yet?" The Big human pulled his datapad from his belt, rapidly entering a series of characters. He gave a level look at Doc,"The man in the big chair don't take promissory notes, Doc." He held out the datapad with the delivery bill displayed.
"I happen to find myself without a slicer to help you out this time. The Human's gravelly voice had a distinct note of disgust when it came to his employer, and he took no joy in the near extortion the economics of the Corporate Sector engendered.

Re: 5: Flying Under the Radar
"Splynn still isn't in shape to be signing checks," Roice murmurs to Metzz.

"So it's 'pay on delivery...?'"  He tries not to roll his eyes.  "No offense Doc, but the economy of this planet is either ridiculously old-fashioned and in desperate need of modernization, or paranoid to the point of cutting-edge fiscal practices.  It's a wonder the CSA hasn't swept in here and established an office."

He re-toggles the comm and turns away.  "Change of plans, boys.  That exchange needs to happen ASAP.  Someone go pick up a skiff and the chests, I'll set up the meeting.  Convene at the Gamma for load-out.  And just so we look like we mean business, plan on dressing in full regalia.  Might as well start making an impression here."

He looks to Daeg.  "How long can you hold it here?"

"Roger that Captain!" Metzz heads off to get his Shatter Gun, which he keeps safe in his Spacer's Chest when not in use.

Then thinking, "Did you want me to slice something for you Daeg?  It would be an absolute pleasure to try.
Just point me to an access terminal."

Re: 5: Flying Under the Radar
Doc looks from Roice to Daeg and shrugs, "I don't have the credits on hand to pay for the delivery," he says.  "I'm runnin' a tab for this boy and his friends and I'd be happy to add the cost of these parts to it.  But I understand.  Those credit-grubbers back in the Sector are half the reason I moved to Farana."

He looks to the Verpine, "Won't help, Metzz.  The slicing's got to be done back at the office, not from here.  They keep their accounts on an offline network.  And from the sounds of it, Roice's got a line on the cash, he just needs the time."

"What do you say, Daeg?" he says to the Corellian, "Willing to wait a while, take a couple days off on the company's demicred, and wait for Roice here to make his deal?  Better yet," he grins, "Why not go with him?  You can get your money up front, make the boss happy, and get some time away from the grind.  Don't worry, I'll cover for you when the office calls looking for you."

Re: 5: Flying Under the Radar
Roice looks dubious for a moment at Doc's suggestion, but then shrugs.  "If Doc's good with you, then so am I.  Wouldn't hurt to have the extra show of muscle along."

He quickly adds, "On our perfectly legal delivery of most assuredly unrestricted camping goods, is what I mean..."

Still at the table eating, Bulyip thinks there might be something up, but he's clueless about what that might be. Not surprised to be missing something that someone picked up on, he shrugs his shoulders, eats some more and then grabs a big gulp of his drink.
"What do you think that was about? Anybody think we should head back to the ship, or was that just a distraction?"

Koeran gazed at Roice for a moment, contemplatingly,  with a curt nod of his head he replied, "Sithspit, they can fire me if they don't like it, either way, it'll take me back to the good old days." He spat his pinch of tobacco into the nearest trash receptacle before pulling a packet and replacing it with a fresh pinch.
"Daeg Koeren, vagrant ne'erdowell, at yer service,"  he added, offering a beefy hand to Roice.

Re: 5: Flying Under the Radar
With the Verpine driving, Roice and Daeg pile into the rear seats of the speeder.

Meanwhile, the rest of the group (Haskel, Selous, Bulyip, and A'den) arrive at Doc's to begin prepping the cargo for transfer.

Naturally, Roice's contact wants to meet in an "out of the way" place.  Metzz, following Roice's directions, drives the speeder into the warehouse district of the city.  It's seedy, run down, and perfect for clandestine meetings to exchange illicit goods.

Re: 5: Flying Under the Radar
Daeg took in the poorly lit area from his seat in the speeder, his mouth worked slightly as he moved his pinch of yanda snuff around his lip, before swallowing with a grimace, he checked the blaster carbine in his lap over, all the while keeping a wary eye on their surroundings.
"You folks take me to the most splendid places." He declared acerbically, slamming home the carbine's power pack.  He gave a satisfied nod as it made the high pitched whine of a full load.  "Who're we meeting with, now?" He asked, almost as an afterthought.

"Here Metzz."  He motions toward a malfunctioning neon billboard over the streetside.  "Park there."

Metzz drives carefully, not too fast and not too slow, aware of the traffic around him.

09:28, Today: Metzz rolled 15 using 4d6+2 with rolls of 1,5,3,4. Mech + Man Bonus. Ooops!

Metzz pulls up where Roice indicates.  "You want I stay in the speeder, engine running?"

Re: 5: Flying Under the Radar
Daeg climbed out behind Roice, giving his carbine one last go-over before stowing it in it's holster at the small of his back.  Resting his forearmson the roof and leaning into the vehicle, he scowled in thought as they waited, the silence broken only by an infrequent wet splash as he spat tobacco juice to the ground.
The sheer irony of the galaxy never failed to surprise the former shipjack, as his flight from Imperial space to avoid law enforcement and his relatively benign, if unsatisfying current profession, has brought him into another legally questionable endeavor.  He smiled mentally, another adventure awaited, he just hoped it wouldnt get him killed.

Harry trundled about as the group prepped the cargo for delivery. He was glad for all the new weapons they'd gotten from the gamma, but if he were being completely honest with himself, he was getting bored on this planet while they waited for the repairs to finish.

Re: 5: Flying Under the Radar
You don't have to wait long before a long, black speeder arrives, parking at the end of the street.

A Duros in a flashy suit steps out of the vehicle and is immediately flanked by two large (like, Wookiee big) humans whose equally flashy suits fit them like they shrunk in the wash.  Seeing Daeg standing with his blaster out in the open, the two toughs glance uncertainly at the Duros and start to reach into their ill-fitting jackets, but he waves a hand at them and they desist.

The Duros approaches with a confident swagger.  He obviously feels no personal danger in this situation.  "Hello, my friend," he says to Roice, grinning an oily grin.  "So, you bring the merchandise?"
