I don't understand why you find this so complicated Aki asked as Ritsuko and Maya began getting the machines ready for data collecting. Attunement is one of the simplest things out there. Merely suffuse some of your essence into a properly reactive item until it literally becomes a art of you, spiritually at least.

If anything is unusual, it would be the psychological merging that occurs during 'syncing', and you've already done studies on that and seem perfectly happy with it.

Ritsuko nods, partially in agreement, but mostly just in thought.

That may be.  However, seeing as Shinji's the only who's figured out how to do 'attune' with one of the Evas, I want to run some tests to see if we can work out a methodology for repeating this with Rei and Asuka.  Hence, the tests.

She pauses, then smiles.

Besides... Shinji's methods to the contrary, isn't it usually best to figure these things out before a combat situation?

Re: Story Arc N+1: Gaia's Rescue, continued
It shouldn't be too much trouble with Asuka and Unit 02, since the 'Ghost in the Machine' as it were, is more than willing to work with her. Rei might have a bit more trouble as Unit 0 has not shown itself to be ... overly fond of her. Just remind Asuka that it's kind of like a cross between standard syncing and when she makes her sun-swords. She needs to focus both her essence and her mind.

Ritsuko sighs.

You know full well that just telling that girl what to do does not make her actually do it.  Hence, the tests.  At least Nova did some modifications on the Pribnow Boxes to make them even closer to the Eva environment.

As she says this, the cameras turn on, and the Three Children start making their way to the Pribnow Boxes.  Of course, due to the tests necessity of limited interference, the Children aren't allowed the plugsuits for this test.

Rei is not concerned in the slightest.  Asuka is ranting, both at Shinji and at Ritsuko.

Shinji is currently in the form of a hedgehog.

Aki's ear perked up in slight alarm.

Wait...exactly what changes did Nova make? Please tell me you've gone over ervery thing she did.

Ritsuko nods.

Of course.  After that stunt a few weeks ago, there's no way I was going to let her do anything without my supervision.

She then presses a button, opening comms into the hallway.

Come on, Children.  The sooner you get through this, the sooner the tests will be over.

Asuka lays in a tirade at Ritsuko in a mixture of Old Realm and German, and ending in Japanese.  Ritsuko mutes most of it, only turning the volume back on for the last few seconds.

..recording this, right?

Ritsuko casually replies.

Of course not.

As Ritsuko says this, she hits a button, making sure all the sensors, from Essence to audio-visual, are on.

Aki shot Ritsuko a raised eyebrow.

I understand you want to gather as much data as possible. But I want you to run through your head exactly what is going to happen when and if Asuka ever finds out you lied to her. Because while it may be for the good of science, you have not only violated thier privacy, but also the verbal agreement you just made.

It's hard enough getting those three to trust anyone as it is.

As Ritsuko checked some sensors, Aki took the opportunity to delete the footage already filed.

Ritsuko sighs and looks over at Aki.

Just don't delete the Essence records.  And you know damn well the psychological data is just as important as the physics.  Especially in this case.

She doesn't even notice Shinji shift back to human form and grab Asuka's hand, which quickly quiets her down.  In fact, due to the sudden quiet, she won't really notice the change at all until all three are nearly into the testing chambers.

Why would I delete the essence data? It in no way violates their privacy. Likewise sound is still there. It tells you all your need. Asuka is self concious and angry at being made to feel vulnerable and Rei doesn't give a damn, most likely an end result of her poor socialization and lack of knowledge about cultural customs.

And you're good, Dr. Akagi, but still not good enough to read the body language of a hedgehog.

Plus if you felt so strongly about it, you should have gotten their permission instead of lying to Asuka about it when she brought the subject up.

We can continue this discussion later though, unless you want to miss more data by wasting time arguing with me.

Ritsuko flinches, especially when she notices the change.

You're right.  Old habits die hard.  If you think it will help, I'll talk to them after the tests are over.

She then turns on the speaker again after a quick check of the instruments.

Alright, Children.  The Pribnow Boxes are set up.  This might take a few hours, to run through all the procedures.

As the Children climb in, Shinji says something to Asuka and Rei that the microphones don't pick up, and then the three of them climb in.

Ritsuko turns back to Aki after one more check.

With any luck, in roughly six to twelve hours, we'll be well on our way of making this whole process a lot easier for everyone involved.

I'll never argue with new and easier ways to kill Primordials. Still, I'm impressed though. I wouldn't have been able to do nothing but basically sit and mediate for six to twelve hours at a time when I was there age. Or even a few decades after that.

Re: Story Arc N+1: Gaia's Rescue, continued
Ritsuko nods.

True, true.  I'm hoping the data gathering will only take a few hours, not all twelve though.

Within a few minutes, the testing settles into a routine that lasts nearly three hours.  Right as Ritsuko is getting ready to try one more experiment, and setting up a procedure for taking care of some corrosion in the testing area, the Angel alarms start going off, and everyone feels the weight of something - a name, perhaps - searing into the fabric of reality itself.

The alarms flicker between two signatures - Pattern Blue, and another, an impenetrable black pattern tinged with gold and white.

As soon as this happens, the corrosion slips onto the Pribnow Boxes, themselves, and begins to make a beeline for the pilots and control systems.

Re: Story Arc N+1: SEELE
The weeks after Aki and ADAM's conversation, things at NERV began to take on a regular routine.  Despite this, signs pointed to continued interference from SEELE.  Evidence mounts that despite ADAM giving up and leaving, they would still attempt to set off Third Impact.

Word eventually comes that SEELE is planning a massive assault, potentially including mass produced EVAs.

Re: Story Arc N+1: SEELE
And the battle is resolved.  The Akuma known as Gendo is captured and taken for soul cleansing and surgery, and the forces of the U.N. and SEELE are routed.

Once events come to a close, with provisions set so friends and family can maintain contact with each other, Luna and Gaia return to Creation, taking with them Aki, his Circle, and his newly adopted family members.

They arrive in Garda only to find that things have changed.  The city has grown to nearly encompass Skrymtor, the Shogun Mmemon and her general, Tepet Ejava, have made residence, bringing with them the one loyal Legion of the Realm's forces.

The region is suffering economically as well, as refugees have streamed in to the one seemingly safe area of Creation.
