Re: Story Arc N: Gaia's Rescue
Are you adjusted to the changes you've undergone? The cat asked with an inquisitive look. I know Shard Exaltation automatically adjusts most thing, but there's still a bit of a learning curve. I can only imagine surgical Exaltation has even more of one.

Kensuke nods.

I'm doing alright.  Still a little bit of residual soreness, though.  Nova says that'll be gone in just a few days.  In the meantime, while I kinda know how all these Charms work... I've never used any of them.

As he speaks, he subconsciously activates the small Essence Pulse Cannon on his shoulder.  As soon as he realizes it is active, he concentrates and powers it down, hiding it back underneath the shoulder plate.

It's going to take some getting used to.

Toji, Hikari, Shinji, Asuka and Rei are all converging on him, and the conversation will get busy very quickly.

Re: Story Arc N: Gaia's Rescue
Aki landed gracefully on his feet, having been displaced by the cannon. I think perhaps it would be wise for you to spend a few days with us in the Orchid Palace before returning to home or school. At least until you are fully aware of and in control of your abilities.

Maybe Shinji and Toji can stay too, like a whatdayacallit, a sleepover?

Re: Story Arc N: Gaia's Rescue
Kensuke grins, and relays the idea to the rest of his Circle.  The agreement for a couple of days of training is almost instantaneous and unanimous.

Kensuke turns to Aki.

Let's do it!

While this is going on, Iron Nail is chatting with Nova.  They are both speaking quietly (even for Nova).  Nova then apologizes profusely to everyone for the false alarm, and then she runs off.

Nail walks over, weaving twin messages in his words.  One message for everyone, one just for Aki.

That does sound like a good idea.  I'd also like to participate as well.  There is a lot I have discovered I need to learn.

To Aki: Apparently the name thing was just to get Kensuke a little riled.  Thankfully she never expected him to accept it.  What a strange individual.

Re: Story Arc N: Gaia's Rescue
Aki nodded at Nail, both agreeing that Nail should join in the training and that Nova was a strange individual.

Then Toji and Hikari should contact their families to let them know where they'll be. Aki pointed out, while his mind was already focusing on the future. He needed to come up with three more Trials. And maybe Kensuke would be more open to a new name if he was being offered a decent one.

Iron Nail nods.

Toji, Hikari.  You should go ahead let your parents know what's going on.  We're going to have some interesting times soon.

Under his breath, Nail mutters, ... like we haven't already...

Lin snickers.

The interesting times ever stopped? The cat asked with a flick of it's tail.

We just have to do the best we can in the time we've got. At least we have time instead of just having to react. As soon we'll have two well trained circles, one of which will have three warstriders. We're doing quite well

Nail nods again.

True enough.  You know, on some level, I kind of feel sorry for Adam.  Somewhat.

Off to the side, Toji and Hikari are in the middle of conversations with their parents.  Aki catches them both using a... special excuse for time away from home.

Exalted business.

Re: Story Arc N: Gaia's Rescue
Interesting This was not expressed for the rest of the room to understand.

'Exalted Business' Such a small and concise statement, used to explain away just about anything. From what he had learn about the dynamics of this culture, permission would normally be asked followed by a detail explanation of what was planned.

It was not uncommon for Exalts to start to pull away from what they once were. They left the old family and friend behind.

Aki always thought it a sad and foolish thing to do.

After phone calls were made and everyone was back to celebrating with Kensuke, Aki snuck off into the next room, turning back to Torao. He picked up the phone and dialed one of the numbers he had just seen

Mr. Suzihara? Hello. I was just wondering if your family had plans for this weekend...?

The voice on the other end of the phone is somewhat surprised to hear Torao.

Well, yes.  My son is planning to be involved in some training.

A note of pride enters the man's voice.

I'm not sure if you know this - though you should, you're one of his classmates - but he's trying to save the world.

Torao couldn't help but grin. I am very much aware sir. I'm helping to the degree to which I'm able. Which is being in charge of his training

I was calling to invite you to spend the weekend where he and the other Exalts are traing, so you could spend some time with him

Mr. Suzehara thinks a moment.

You know, that'd be good.  Ever since the paperwork system got updated, I actually have more time off.  Give me directions, and I'll be there.

Torao happily gave the directions, then repeated the process with Hikari's family. He hesitated, but still decided against involving the Aida's at this time. Best to get Kensuke completely under his control first.

Re: Story Arc N: Gaia's Rescue
While Aki was making his calls, Iron Nail and Ritsuko prepped and sent out a release "explaining" the false alarm.  During the confusion, Nova made a quick getaway back to her lab.

Nail brings Shinji, Asuka, Toji, Hikari and Kensuke to Aki as Aki wraps up the call.

Everything looks to be in order.  Hopefully we can get by this next week or so before the next sync tests without any issues.

Nail then grins.

Ritsuko's dying to figure out how to duplicate attunement for a power source.

Asuka looks like she's about to say something when Lin comes up behind Iron Nail.

Yeah, but by the time that happens, you'll be so tired of training you're going to sleep for a week anyways.

Asuka laughs at Lin's remark.

Him, maybe.  Not me!

There will be plenty of time to rest in between the training. You're not getting the most out of training when you're exhausted. Aki said in the tone that said this wasn't up for negotiation. And don't forget it's a time for celebration as well

Iron Nail grins at that.

Sounds good to me.  If I didn't think I actually needed the training, I'd much prefer just celebrating myself.

That remark gets a few chuckles from the group.

Well, you asked for it, you're getting it. No backing out now. And there's never anything wrong with putting another feather in your cap.

Re: Story Arc N: Gaia's Rescue
Iron Nail nods again, and Lin flashes an almost Iron Nail-like grin in Nail's direction.  Thankfully Iron Nail does not catch it.

With some other pleasantries and conversation, people once again start returning to business.

------

A few days later, as the weekend finally arrived, Shinji, his friends, and their families - with one notable and expected exception - made their way to the Orchid Palace for the celebration, trials and training.  Iron Nail had already been there for quite a few hours the last couple of days, though he did stop by Nova's to ask for some special equipment for once his training is complete.

The normal palace notifications flare up when the visitors start arriving.  Iron Nail takes the opportunity to bow out of continued sparring with Lin.

Re: Story Arc N: Gaia's Rescue
The visitor alert also set off a sensor a few buildings down. Aki grumbled under his breath. He had hoped to have this done by the time the weekend, so he could focus entirely on training and making sure all family bonds were secure.

Stretching he shrunk back down to Torao. Might as well not shock the families too much, though if they had become used to living with Exalted...

Re: Story Arc N: Gaia's Rescue
By the time Aki arrives, the celebration is already in full swing.  Just about everyone Aki could have thought to invite was already there.

Misato and Kaji are already by the bar, sampling some the newer imports.  Shinji and Asuka are both sitting off to the side, not really talking with each other, and both also looking somewhat uncomfortable with all the parents there.  Truths, Kudo and Nail are talking with Hikari and Toji's parents.

Kensuke is still in one of the side rooms, so as not to startle the civilians immediately.

The rest are mingling with the growing crowd.

Re: Story Arc N: Gaia's Rescue
Even though it was his idea, Aki had to fight a slight urge to get back to his work. He had no problem with large groups of people, not with the size of his family, but his experience with purely social situations with strangers was...lacking. And the project was interesting.

But the kids his kids needed this. Shinji, Rei, and Asuka had grown up devoid of parents. He wouldn't let any of the others loose that, no matter what.

Shinji notices Aki enter, and he gets up and heads over.

Glad you could make it.  Where have you been these last few days?

He does control himself from asking every question on his mind, at least immediately.

Re: Story Arc N: Gaia's Rescue
Torao grinned Little bit of Lunar Tradition. For safeties sake, you and Toji have already had your casts fixed. However, normally new Lunars go through a series of trials to figure out their caste. The Trials also have a second purpose as well. At the end of them Lunars are given a new name, a name that reflects their own nature. Though it doesn't have to be completely different for the original name. I simply went from being Aki to Aki the White Demon for example.

Shinji grins back.

Well, whatever you throw at me, I'll make sure to beat it.

He pauses, and then his grin gets a little bit wider.

... and I'll make doubly sure to beat it if its "impossible" as well.

Aki laughed. I'm sure you will. I'm setting up a trail set for Kensuke. He may not be a Lunar but- Aki winced. Excessively Whiny Ninja. Nuff said.
