Re: Van Diemien House II

Bill smiled as his daughter sat down scooping a portion of mashed potatoes onto his fork and offering it to Darren. "So Fiona, did you decide whether your joining the team?"

In reply to Bella Masters (msg # 373):

Aaron had no objections to being in Bellas lap and kissed her cheek again as he set the plates down in front of them. "Good choice"

Darren took that bite, and offered Bill a bite of his steak.

"Food looks great, even if I can't partake.  Wedding was wonderful and I hope things go well for the recently married."

Exposition of the bride and groom's past made Matt really hope it went better the second time around.  "Sounds like you're on the right track of 'don't think about it too hard and just care about them' regarding Bella then."

OOC: Enough snow and wind to stick to everything sideways inch thick... Then it's gone the next day WHY DID I SHOVEL!?  Still, we lucked out up here with nothing but some light inconvenience.

Fiona shook her little head at Bill, a slight frown on her dragon face. "Sorry. Still not sure about the whole thing. I want to do it, but I'm not sure if I'm strong enough for people to be able to rely on me."

Bill took the bite from Darrens fork taking a moment to savor the steak before swallowing and answering Fiona. "Well Its not for everyone and its ultimately a personal decision. But let me ask, if your not sure you 'have what it takes' why did you leap into danger at the rally?"

Fiona shook her little head a little. "I had to... it was an emergency, and there was nobody else there who could have done that. But... how do you get the courage that keeps you from just running away sometimes?"

Re: Van Diemien House II

"Courage is not the lack of fear but acting in spite of it. You do what you have to when it has to be done, thats all any of us do because we each have something we can do that no one else can.

I don't know if anyone told you this but I'm not your typical para, I'm the guardian of the earth, I was literally picked by the spirit of the earth to protect it. I admit when I accepted the job I didn't expect it to turn out how it did, I was just thinkung of how awesome it would be to have superpowers.

Theres been some hardship I'll admit that, and I've questioned my decision more than once, the first time being after we thought Darren had died.

But therres been good times too I managed to find the love of my life and pick up a daughter along the way and at the end of the day I feel good about myself and what I've done. I don't regret my decision."

Re: Van Diemien House II

Fiona gave Bill a little smile. "Well, your case was a little different then. You were told to protect Earth... in my case, it was just a trickster spirit who gave me my powers, said some cryptic words and then disappeared. I wasn't even given a choice. So it would probably not matter if I just decided not to do anything with it. Still... I admire your bravery. Some people would probably be paralyzed by fear if they had to do the things that you do."

Re: Van Diemien House II

Bella spoke quietly, but with a serious tone that Aaron would know well, but Bill wasn't so used to.  "Powers aren't just fun and games.  They give you abilities.  You could go any job any normal human could, Fiona.  You could do neurosurgery, but a neurosurgeon could not transform into a giant Chinese Dragon and hold a hundred mutated citizens still so that they don't rampage and create more rampaging mutants, and hurt a lot of other people.  I learned, when I was small, that power gives great privelige, but it ALSO brings with it a responsibility.  I am bulletproof.  So if I can keep one normal human from being shot and killed by TAKING that bullet, then I've done something good, and this world is improved by that.  Power is not the difference, Fiona.  The real difference is how you choose to USE it.  Ask Dad-E.  Someone with the powers he has, or that I have, could do TERRIBLE things.  Or we can do fantastic things.  It is all dependend upon what our hearts hold, and how we want to leave this world to face our maker at the end of it all."

Re: Van Diemien House II

Matt knows Fiona will eventually take to the hero thing.  After all, she would be able to show off her powers in front of more people that way.

If he got into a more than reactionary role, it would be due to the fact his conscience makes him do stupid things that will probably get him killed again.  "At the very least, you wonder what they would say at your funeral about you.  You're ahead of the curve there already though Fiona."

Fiona smiled weakly at Bella. "So that story has been making the rounds, huh? I'll think about what you've said... but in the end, it has to be my own decision. If I start fighting alongside you guys, it's not because I have to, but because I want to."

Re: Van Diemien House II

Lucas glanced out of the corner of his eye at the various "PDAs" that were happening, and then turned away. It reminded him of the times he had with Friday and Mirage...and the all too harsh reality that they were both no longer with him. He wanted to bolt from the reception but he knew that would be in bad taste, especially considering how hard Don had worked to get to this point in his life. So he stayed and finished up the steak dinner, subtly observing people and things as the reception continued.

Andy laid his hand on Dragon Fist's shoulder, and said quietly "You are not alone, you know.  It is far, far better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all, for even when the one you love is gone, you can remember the joys you shared.  It can be the thread that holds you from a grief-stricken madness at times.  But you never truly lose them as long as you remember, and as long as you hold the parts of yourself that they loved best close, and don't let time and loneliness and pain steal them from you."

Lucas turned and gave Andy a sincere smile.

"Thanks Andy....it's amazing to see how you've grown in both mind and spirit. You have a good woman with you. Cherish each other for as long as you have each other, for it will be that love that forges you through any circumstances that come your way."

Andy nodded, and said quietly "She is far better than one of my lineage deserves, you know.  She accepts me as I am, which is no mean feat by itself, and she loves me.  Be glad you don't have any Demonic lineage, or you too could wear the shackles for love.  It's how she can keep me here now, you know.  Demons aren't MEANT to walk this plane freely."  He didn't LOOK, aside from his shades, particularly demonic, just big, and muscular, and sort of imposing.
