Re: Apokryphos Cafe and Coffeehouse - The Cafe
"I might still technically work for the Cafe, but it would be for the best if you spoke with someone on the clock for that delivery." Matt wondered if Anton's delivery was still on time, given recent events.

At Mitten's obvious question, he sighs.  "Mittens, we spent years with them and it was not until we were gone for all of five minutes that their civilization falls." Not QUITE an exaggeration, given the respective mockery of distance they both were capable of when not slumming it on merely 'faster than light' starships.

"We can certainly check.  But the universe honestly is out to get you sometimes." Usually if it provides a tragic backstory. See also: Blind psychics. Which he leaves be because not sorting that is the more polite option-

Wait, was that this timeline?  Man, being an unexplained entity is overrated when you're still having to deal with that sort of existential bookkeeping.

Mits nods.  "Let's see if the operator can get us a relay so we can talk realtime."

Knowing that a direct link with Halkor using this gizmo is a no-go, she dials the inter-planetary switchboard expecting to get, "Please enjoy this music while we get the next available operator.  There are 90 billion callers ahead of you."  *Looped music plays: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGP1d508a2o *

Serena laughed and hugged the puppy closer. "I think you're beautiful just as you are, Maggie."

She looked up at Mittens with one brow cocked. "90 billion callers ahead of you? I thought customer service was bad on this planet."

Megaira had sensed when the aliens had been dispatched and dropped the shields over the building, so Anton could get in.  She was still behind the coffee-bar, close to the kitchen door.

Anton pauses for a moment when the floating emoji appears. Cocking his head to the left, he keeps his eyes on the apparent catgirl who was so helpful. With a simple nod, he resumes his delivery, walking into the Café. His eyes play across the interior, categorizing points of egress and contention. Upon falling on the slim figure poised at what looks to be the doors leading to the back, he changes his trajectory towards her.

"Apokryphos Café? I have a delivery..." The tone is casual as he moves to hand over the package. However, he can't help but feel that there is more to this person than at first meets the eye.

Meg smiled, and said "Thank you.  These must be the spices Mama said she needed to special order.  Let me hand them off to her, she's got the kitchen right now, did you need payment, or a tip?"  She looked young to be in such charge, but it sounded like she knew what she was doing.  She also had an intensity to her that was unusual for anyone so young looking.

Re: Apokryphos Cafe and Coffeehouse - The Cafe
Megs had heard all the ruckus at the museum, and she called up Miss Adventure's information (she DID have her card) and sent her a text asking if things were okay and if the situation  had been resolved without casualties, or if further medical assistance was needed.  She also wondered if she should maybe spend a little more time down here, and not up in the labs, but that was something for another day.  Gargoyle had been out of town for a while, but she did send him fairly regular updates on his Mom, since she still lived here in Weston.  She remembered the trip to Hell with Painter and Excelsior to rescue Gargoyle all too clearly.  The Cafe was good for the evening, and she had nothing much else needing her attention if the museum was good.

Text reply...  Pfsh.  Why fiddle with texting when you can just answer face-to-face even faster?

A door-shaped portal opens for Meg and through it she can see superheroes giving statements to the police.  Thanks to Matt's clean-up superpower, by now the only signs there was ever any violence is the various mummy bits littering the floor, and several bewildered victims recently healed up by Lifelight.

Mits gives a big smile and thumbs-up to Meg.  "While things are handled in here, I'm sure there's still plenty of folks that could use the attention of a healer.  Dunno what kinda investigative prowess you possess, but that's what phase we're moving into.  Whodunnit?  Whydeydoit?  How?  Etc."

Re: Apokryphos Cafe and Coffeehouse - The Cafe
The workspace that Meg had set him up with was proving to be quite advantageous.  He had to admit he did not have his mentor's focus when it came to situations like this.  While food may sometimes be set aside longer than it should be, rest had to come.  As it was he had been pushing himself for the last few days and he finally crashed.  When he awoke he went on a heavy schedule of making repairs to the Osprey.  His talk with Miss Adventure had also left him pondering things.  Things that he needed a relatively clear head for.

A clear head that would be easier to obtain on a full stomach.

Since the Museum, this was the first time he ventured out of the new place Meg set up for him.  The fatigue didn't show on his face though, that he had mastered well enough to function at work after an evening of crime fighting.  His smile is as warm as ever.  He takes a seat, being sure to have his back to a wall and ready line of sight to as many doors as he can manage.

Re: Apokryphos Cafe and Coffeehouse - The Cafe
Two men entered the cafe, one well muscled with long blonde hair currently done up in a ponytail the other with short dark hair and a light layer of stubble. The blonde man carried a young girl, who looked about one.

The hostess turned and when she saw them, looked instantly star struck. "Oh! Welcome Mr. Excelsior sir."

The blonde man chuckled. "Please, just Bill. Is Meg in?"

"I'm afraid she's just stepped out Ex-..Bill. But if you'd take a seat I could let you know when she gets back?"

"That'd be great, two cokes please, and milk for little Bella."

The hostess nodded. "Right away sir."

The two men sat down, putting the little girl in a high chair. The brown haired man shook his head, grinning. "Told you you should have kept your identity secret."

"They would have figured it out anyway after yours got exposed."

"Yeah, but I'm not nearly as famous as you."

"Oh hush"

Re: Apokryphos Cafe and Coffeehouse - The Cafe
Family.  There was that same twinge deep in the recesses of his heart that he did his damnedest to forget and remember every day.  So this was Excelsior in his civilian garb, so the other one was likely Fluid.  Darren Masters.

Idly his thumb rubs against the ring that rests on his right ring finger, before catching himself as if his hand was in the cookie jar.  He heard a lot about both of them, but still he knew from experience that print could some times be larger than the truth.  Others, painted the person in a completely different light.  He trusted the judgement of those that knew him, but still.

Despite the twinge and the short lived nervous twitching of his thumb, the facial mask never falters.  Standing he makes his way, a bit shyly towards the couple.

"S'cuse me.  Thought you looked familiar but...  really?  You're Excelsior?  Fluid?"  He waves his hand a little, just that non-verbal gesture of asking for forgiveness.  "Sorry, I get it.  Really I do.  You're out with your family but, I just wanted to say thank you.  So.  Thank you."

Meg came in through the back way, as usual.  She tilted her head, then smiled as she recognizd who was there, and dropped her parcels off in the kitchen before she headed out front to greet some of her oldest friends.  "Hey guys, good to see you two, and you brought my favorite little girl with you.  How are all of you?"

Bill smiled warmly as Kevin approached. "Hi, yep that's us." Bill waved a hand dismissively. "Don't worry about it, happens all the time. You're actually more polite than a lot of people." He held out a hand for a shake. "Nice to meet you..." He trailed off waiting for Kevin's response.

As Meg arrived Bill turned, but not before getting the handshake. He smiled widely "There you are!"  He wrapped Meg in a hug, and Darren stood up to join them. From her high chair Bella reached for Meg, and then began to float, high chair and all, towards Meg.

"Greg."

The handshake is taken and returned easily.  Almost too easily.  Still he was focused on the heroes to the point he jumps a little as Meg approaches them.  Backing off just a bit to give them space, thankfully before the highchair starts floating.

That, legitimately surprised him.  He knew people could get their abilities young, even be born with them but to see that much control when most are just learning to walk if they're lucky.

Meg was one of those few people that knew some of the truth about him, if not more.  This wasn't exactly something he'd just go to any of the staff here.  His voice quieting just a bit, an apologetic grin being offered towards Bill and Darren.

"Hey Meg, is your mom around?  Been needing to talk with her about a job."

In discussing what he needed in the lab, she would have let her know that if they needed help around the apartments they'd just need to ask.  When he talked about 'a job' it was in regards to his night work.

Meg gave both Bill and Darren a return hug, before she collected the adorable little girl from her high chair. Settling Bella on her hip like an experienced baby sitter. "Mom's in the kitchen, she's sorting out the evening special if you want to step back and see her?"

Then she tilted her head inquisitively at Bill raising one eyebrow in silent question.

"We thought we'd take advantage of some quiet time to come visit you, that and we'd like to ask a favor. With the alien attack and some unrest building in various parts of the world we're gonna be real busy for a while. Would you mind taking care of Bella for a while? We'll visit as much as we can but we might be in the field for days at a time and we don't like to leave her with the robo-nanny that long." Bill replied to Meg's silent question, an apologetic look on his face. "I know it's sudden, and we're not sure how long but you're the closest thing she has to a mom and you tend to stay out of super shenanigans these days"

Inwardly he smiles a little.  The affects of family on the super hero lifestyle.

It briefly brought a memory of better days.

"Thanks."

Silently he excuses himself and heads back for the kitchen.  That ready smile is offered to any kitchen staff he happens to pass on his way to Lin.  Careful not to get to close to any food contact surfaces and being mindful that in this area, the staff's work was more important than the case he was working on.  He wasn't sure how much or who of the staff knew the truth about her and with that in mind.

"Hey Lin, talked with Meg out in the Cafe, told me I would find you here.  Some complications with work have come up and I was hoping I could talk with you.  If you have the time."

Lin was just finishing up working on some sort of meat with a cleaver (there was an impressive pile of something minced that was once some cut of meat) when he came in, and she said "Certainly, Kevin.  Let me just get this into the pot with the couscous and the mussels, and I can go upstairs with you to discuss the details.  Sound fair?"  Given that the woman asking him that was older than Christianity, well, it was somewhat ironic.

"Of course."

Kevin just sets himself out of the way as he waits for Lin.  It really was impressive, usually people he had met that had been around as long as her, they generally kept to themselves.  Hid just outside the knowledge of the populace.  While her situation wasn't known, Lin put herself right out there to help others in meaningful ways.

It was refreshing, really.

Still, he realized his current case may just be outside the scope of the reason for this visit, but he needed to ask.

Accompanying her upstairs, he slips a photo out from his jacket once the doors to the room are closed.

"I hope I am not wasting your time, and I am sorry for coming to you with this.  Between my two options to start talking to, you at least know who I am though."

He hands the picture to her.

"This necklace was stolen from the museum a few nights ago, during an attack where magic was used to reanimate the mummies in the exhibit.  Human as well as animals.  I was wondering if you know anything more about the necklace than could be gleaned from a search through archeological reports."

Lin examined the picture, then made an absent glyph of glowing dark emerald energy in the air, making a three dimensional image of the photograph spring into being above it.  She rotated it, then nodded to herself.  She said "That is the Necklace of Osiris.  It's a potent tool for necromancy and raising the undead.  Unfortunately for all of us, that was the real thing, not one of many copies the ancient Egyptians made for their priests
to use in holy rituals that held no power without the real artifact."
She gave him back the photograph, then wiped the glowing symbol of energy away so that the three dimensional image vanished once more.

Re: Apokryphos Cafe and Coffeehouse - The Cafe
"Just once, it would be nice if the object in question was taken simply because it sparkled."

This was said in the same dry, deadpan way he usually spoke, but there was the slightest hint of an attempt at levity.  Rubbing a few fingers along the side of the bridge of his nose, he takes a few seconds to take stock of the situation.

"I have taken too long to follow up on this, I can hope the Police have found something, but I still should speak to them.  Just in case.  This, is larger than them.  Larger than me.  The potential scope of the investigation easily exceeds the jurisdiction of Weston City."

Taking the picture back, he runs a few more thoughts through his mind.

"Have you detected anyone else traveling from the world I am from?  There is a short list of villains that this fits their Modus Operandi.  None of them would be favorable in this situation, though none of them I have direct experience with either.  The more problematic would be what they could possibly be harbingers of.  Or, are you aware of anyone that has been actively looking for this through the centuries?  And, of course, I do apologize for the amount of questions, but would you happen to know Ethan Sharpe?  I believe he was also known as Brigand.  If they have not been made aware or discovered this for themselves, the DPA should be made known about this.  I doubt they would listen to me without a few people being willing to vouch for me."

With the last sentence, his voice softens and that edge of dispassion erodes.  While not a question, it carries the tone of a polite request.

Lin chuckled, and said "Ethan, or Brigand, is my adopted little brother.  Both my daughter and I know him well, although I've had longer to associate with him.  I can and will vouch for you with him and the DPA, I do occasionally act as an official 'consultant' with them.  If you want to linger for a while, I can have Ethan stop by?  His wife was planning to drop in later this evening anyway.  She's the best thing that ever happened to him, in either lifetime."  She held up a hand like she was using a phone, and spoke.  "Ethan, I have someone you should meet here at the Cafe, you can stop in at your convenience, or with your wife this evening when she comes over, but there is an important part to this.  Behave, and don't forget."  Clearly, she knew Ethan would recognize her voice.  Then she added to Kevin "His wife will be here at seven, she and Megaira and I will all be at Meg's apartment because we're working on a few little surprises for folks, but nothing we can't work on after we get your information disseminated."
