Re: Dragon and Tiger

The dojo is a white stone one story structure. The words The Dragon And The Tiger are displayed in orange above the entrance doors and a black circle displaying a tiger and a dragon is displayed next the doors.

Inside is a front desk off to the left, and as you go straight ahead, there is a large workout room with several mats and what looks like a small ring area. Off to the left portion of the room there are several punching bags available to the students as well as several books detailing the history of the martial arts and philosophy.

An office sits towards the back of the dojo, completely furnished with desk, computer, and several filing cabinets. In this office there are also a lot of Flip's tournament trophies, as well as several pictures of him and the previous sensei at this dojo, a wise old Japanese man named Shiro Takeda. There is also a small room with a bed and a dresser that is used as a guestroom for anyone who needs it.

Re: Dragon and Tiger

Ozzy sighed a contented sigh in an alleyway between the Dragon and Tiger and another building, with the wheels on his skates locked so he could walk, his headphones around his neck, and his mp3 player turned up. His backpack was on the ground nearby, though instead of books, it held a couple of old used-up spray cans, and a pair of black steel-toed work boots.

Nothing relaxed him like some fresh 'canvas' to work on after a good run through the city. The white stone wall of the dojo was a perfect surface to paint, and Ozzy almost felt guilty for raping the virgin wall... but he was an artist, and with materials this perfect, and the right opportunity... his Muse would bug him for days if he didn't take this opportunity, and use this inspiration.

And so he begun to work, 'spray painting' the wall with his magic, using the old cans as a cover, just in case someone saw. In fact, in the back of his head, the worry that someone would find out his secret was greater than the fear of getting caught. Of course, both of those fears were lost to the bliss of the soft hiss of his paint, and the plain, blank space of the wall suddenly gaining color and form.

Those near the building would be able to hear the Grateful Dead's 'Touch of Grey' wafting on the air from the alleyways.

Re: Dragon and Tiger

As Ozzy is "painting his masterpiece" on the wall of the Dragon and Tiger dojo, a tall African-American man with short salt and pepper hair and mustache and a black karate gi comes walking up to the young man.

"Ahem! That's some very nice work son...although I would rather you do that on canvas than on my wall..."

The man's voice did not seem angry, but seemed to command a great degree of respect.

Re: Dragon and Tiger

Ozzy, lost in the music and the masterpiece as he was, simply turned to the mustachioed martial artist, replying with a grin and a quick, "'Sup?", before going back to work. About two seconds later, he realized that the guy probably wasn't there to watch.

Ozzy jumped to the side in surprise, dropping the spray can in the process. It hit the ground with a hollow 'clunk' before rolling off to the side.

"Eepah! H-hey! So, lemme guess, you own this place, right? Umm... hey, how'd you like me to do a little mural for you, some bona-fide urban wall art? Completely free of charge, of course."

On the wall, art had begun to take shape. He had the detail lines of the two main figures done, what seemed to be 'Hippy Skater Jesus' doing an inverted aerial grab over a street, reaching downwards to almost touch the outstretched finger of a pedestrian in a suit, who was reaching up and pointing in amazement. The street was currently just lines to suggest perspective.

In short, it was Ozzy's modernized, urbanized, personalized take on Michaelangelo's 'Creation of Adam'.

"Flip" Owen looked at the young man's artwork.

"Very impressive. It does complement the side wall of the dojo. I will ask though that you stick with the theme of my dojo. What I would like is a bit of symbolism....A Dragon and A Tiger facing off...do you think you can manage that?"

Re: Dragon and Tiger

Ozzy grinned widely. Possibly having to change his art was a bit of a let-down, but not having to deal with the cops, or worse yet, his family finding out what he'd been doing was awesome. If his parents found out he'd been committing acts of 'vandalism', he'd probably be banned from leaving the house 'till he was older than Grandpa.

"No problem, mister. Y'want me t' take this down, or do ya mind if I finish it? Just kinda lettin' my creativity flow, here... and where do you want this Dragon and Tiger? Front? Side? I can even have 'em arcing over your front door, if you want, I'm pretty good at wall-riding. Or, you know, I could go find a ladder. Whatever floats your boat."

Re: Dragon and Tiger

"A little paint thinner'll do the trick. It's not the safest stuff, but I know what I'm doing and, once it dries, I'll be able to get your Dragon-and-Tiger up in no time."

With that, Ozzy started digging through his bag, bringing out an can of Ozzy's 'special' paint thinner, with the label for the original contents still on. It had been labeled as a commercially available paint solvent formulated to work on masonry and not require an after-wash, which was what Ozzy usually needed, but that crap was crazy expensive, so he'd just started filling it back up with the stuff he could make with his runes. And unless someone ran a chemical analysis on the stuff in the can, no one would be the wiser.

Ozzy set to work immediately, splashing paint thinner on his masterpiece, sending the lines cascading down the wall in a strong-smelling black waterfall. Within a couple of minutes, the thinner had dried, and Ozzy set to work again, depicting a proud Dragon battling a fierce Tiger, their bodies forming a circle that was clearly indicative of a Yin-Yang sort of vibe. He worked slowly and carefully, consulting the owner about the poses and such before laying down any lines. Once the bodies and any details had been lined out, Ozzy asked,

"There we go. I think that looks pretty good, myself. So, what colors do you want? Name anything you can think of, I've got all kinds of weird colors in this little bag of mine."

With that, he started looking in his bag once more, pretending to be looking for whatever colors 'Flip' might want.

Flip looked over the young man's mural with great approval.

"I must say...that is very impressive. My friend Lucas would like it. How about you make the Dragon in an Azure color and make the Tiger White? That is very impressive..."

He crossed his arms and looked it over again..

Re: Dragon and Tiger

"Azure and White, huh? I can do that, no problem. Now, here's the white, and I've got the black out... but where's my blue? Oh! I must've dropped it when you surprised me. Lemme get it."

With that, Ozzy pulled a random spray can out of his bag, putting away the solvent, and collected the dropped can that he'd been 'using' to color in Hippie Skater Jesus's shirt. He shoved one can in one of his big pockets, then used the other two to create a nice little grading effect on the dragon's scales, making it look less flat, and switching between colors as necessary. He did much the same with the Tiger's fur, giving it a nice, three-dimensional feel, and making it visually different from the Dragon's scales and the white of the stone wall.

Once he was done, Ozzy turned to the dojo owner, smiling.

"Well? Do you like it?"

Flip nodded in approval.

"You know, if I didn't know better, I'd swear that you were reading my mind. You drew it just the way I had envisioned it."

He reached into a pocket inside of his gi and hands him a business car.

"I would like to offer you a complimentary lesson if you're interested. And my name is Gene Owen....my students call me Flip."

He extended his hand to Ozzy...

Ozzy had a thoughtful look as he took the card and shook Flip's hand.

"Could be interesting. What's your policy on leg braces? I'm... well, to be blunt, I'm sorta disabled, and can't stand on my own without something to help support my leg, like the boot on my blades. I figured it's a valid question, since most places like this have a no-shoes policy, yeah?

The name's Ozzy, by the way. Short for Oswald, but I hate that name, so it's just Ozzy."

Flip replied, "Ozzy...a pleasure to meet you."

"Well...the essence of the martial arts is flexibility..we all have to be flexible no matter what circumstances life brings us. And I think that you rising above limitation is an inspiration to us all. You know...while I was not a student of Bruce Lee's....I do admire what he said. To have no way as way...to have no limitation as limitation. Regardless, we'd be happy to have you. I'd like to introduce you to the co-owner, Lucas Martinez, but he seems to be otherwise occupied. Probably hanging out with his girlfriend..."

"Well, what the hell. The doctors said I'd be wheelchair-bound, or on crutches at best, but look at me now, yeah? I'll give it a shot, see what happens. You sound like Mom and Dad would like you, though, so if it goes well, they may pay for lessons. I know Dad'll love the idea of getting a little discipline in me, at least."

A wry smirk then crossed his face, "If nothing else, I'll get a laugh out of it. So, will I need to get a gi and all that?"

Flip smiled.

"That won't be necessary for the first lesson. Just come in and dress lightly...a sweatsuit would work just fine, and we can work all of the formalities out after you see what the class is like. Tell your folks about it...see what they think. The dojo hours are 10am to 9pm Monday through Friday, Saturdays from 9am to 4pm and we're closed on Sundays. Feel free to stop in anytime during those hours....and thank you again for sprucing up that side wall....that is very good artwork."

"Sure, I'll make sure to. And hey, no problem. Better than having to run off and leave it totally unfinished, yeah? I'll catch you later, Flip."

With that, Ozzy gathered up his stuff, shouldered his backpack, and unlocked his wheels. He skated off as he put the earphones over his actual ears, and cranked the volume waaay down. He liked it loud, true, but not so loud that it would burst his eardrums.

Flip smiled. It was one thing to acquire a student...but it was another to make a difference in someone's life. And he hoped that he would be able to do that with young Ozzy. He seemed like a good-natured young man.

He then walked back into the dojo and made his way to the backoffice. There was still a lot of paperwork to do...

Re: Dragon and Tiger

Lucas certainly enjoyed the night before. The double date with Friday, Katy and Aaron was a lot of fun, and the time spent afterwards was even.....more fun. But a lot of things occupied his mind this morning.

There was the first class of the day: a lot of the students in the class were starting to earn their stripes on their white belts, so they would need to be taught some of the advanced forms. And oh yes...some of the students wanted to spar....

But the message that Don...or "Hunter" had sent them was troubling....Don't try to find me...what did he do now? Then he heard about Don Derring's escape and he couldn't help but reflect back on what Bertelli said when he and Mirage were there: that brute force wasn't going to break up the Legacy....but something more subtle might....maybe they were behind Don getting "found out" after all.

And then there was this Registration thing. While not so sure about registering his identity with the government, the proposal seemed to be legit enough...and really wouldn't hamstring their efforts to helping keep things in Weston from boiling over.

He would call Friday and the others as soon as he got a chance....to see what their thoughts on the SRA would be....

Mirage waited patiently in the Dojo, watching as Lucas taught his morning class.  She waited until the class had ended and Lucas was free before she made her presence known, although she guessed he would know it was her.  Dressed in a professional knee length skirt suit she exuded an air of femininity, her posture and movements relaxed and graceful, and would almost be guaranteed to turn heads even though she wasn't trying to.

"Good Morning, Lucas." She said cheerfully.  "It occurred to me that I have never seen the inside of your dojo, so I thought that I might stop by and let you give me a tour of your edifice.  You can tell me how your date with Friday went last night.  You know that I am ever so curious.  So.  How did it go?"

A few whoots and hollers are heard from the students as Lucas goes over to meet with "Lane Summers".

"All right, all right, settle down...." Lucas said as he shushed the class as they were wrapping up.

"Good morning, Lane..." he said warmly as he sat down next to her. "I wasn't expecting you here but it is good to see you. As for the date...well...let us say that there are things so sublime that one cannot put it into words..."

"I like to keep you on your toes, Lucas.  It's a shame that you had a class here or I might have made things very interesting." Mirage said after studying Lucas' expression for a moment.  "I was concerned about how your date went.  Friday is a lovely girl but I get worried that there is too much Tomboy in her for her own good.  I wasn't sure if she would dress up, throw on a nice dress and heels.  Who was Katy's mystery date?"

I was speechless....I definitely liked it and I think she liked it too. Oh Katy's date? Funny thing that. It seems that our colleague Katy is dating none other than Aaron Tanaka..."

Pausing for a moment, he then added, "Aaron and I are friends...and business rivals. He owns a dojo not far from here. But it's a friendly rivalry....nothing malicious between us at all."

"Katy is dating an owner of a dojo?  What is it with you Martial Artists and superheroines?  Do I need to worry?" Mirage said playfully with a soft laugh.  It was meant to be a humourous question but there may have been a more serious part to it.  It wouldn't be the first time that Mirage had wondered what would have happened had she met Lucas before he met Friday.  "It's good that she has someone who can keep up with her, hopefully.  Did she at least dress up nicely?  You do know that I am living vicariously through the lot of you so I am allowed to be nosy."

Her cheerful expression lessened somewhat.  "I hope the news about Hunter didn't spoil your evening.  I saw Friday's response and I instantly regretted sending the message in the first place."

Lucas laughed.

"Well...they seem to be pretty serious. Aaron mentioned that he was dating someone in passing but I had no idea it was Katy. And yes she actually did look very nice. Between you and I, Friday and I weren't sure if she was going to have someone with her at all, so it was definitely a surprise when she showed up with Aaron."

When asked about the news of Hunter, he replied, "At first it did...but we decided to just let that go and deal with it the next day. Friday looked like she put a lot of effort into last night and we both didn't want it to go to waste. And you can't blame yourself for that Lane. We had to find out one way or another. Even though it wasn't welcome news, at least it came from one of our own instead of one of those 'Hard Copy' guys..."

"I was planning on going out to look for Hunter later this evening.  I can see him breaking out of the jail but I just can't picture him shooting Jordan.  Honestly, I thought that things were getting better with him.  I know that we had our differences before over him leaving Weston but I thought when he decided to stay...well he has some explaining to do."

Lucas then listened to what Mirage said about Hunter. "Yeah...we've got to find out what's going on with Don. But something has been gnawing at me. Do you remember when we were at the Bertellis, and Antonio Bertelli said that he couldn't deal with us using brute force...that he was going to use a more 'subtle' method? I wonder if the unravelling of Hunter might be the start of that plan. That's been troubling me ever since I found out Hunter had been arrested. Perhaps whoever arrested him may have acquired their evidence from the Bertellis...or maybe one of their subordinates..."
