Re: Dragon and Tiger

Katy's mind-self smiled slightly, almost smugly. She knew that Helena was reasonable, but the whole exchange scared her to death. Ever since Friday died, Helena was pretty much the only person she felt she could go to with anything. Having Helena finally concede that she might be right was a victory in itself. Katy  broke the mind connection, allowing Mirage and Lucas to return to their own bodies.

When their eyes opened, they would find themselves staring at Katy a few feet away, who was sitting on the edge of the bed, hands clasped together between her legs and leaning on her elbows, staring back at the other two.

"Helena, you have every right to hate me right now. I would if I were in your position. But it gets us nowhere, and it's exactly what Brain wants. He underestimated my power. Pumping me full of drugs and rearranging my mind left an imprint of him on me. Not something that he can control me with, but if you want to get rid of this bastard, I can find him in an instant."

Re: Dragon and Tiger

Lucas looked at Mirage, then back at Katy.

"You don't have to worry about that, Katy. We tangled with Brain not too long ago...he tried to inhabit the body of Nokomis Kellington, one of your colleagues in the police force. We were inside her mind, not very much unlike what we just experienced...and there we saw to Brain's end."

Re: Dragon and Tiger

Katy sighed slightly. Brain had pretty much screwed up her life, and she had wanted to help kill the man who did this to her. After all, it only seemed fair. But perhaps it wasn't Katy's fate to take him down, considering how she had gotten herself caught so easily, and all the damage she had wrought. Her mind was going on a tangent, when all of a sudden, she felt herself brush her vast consciousness on someone familiar.

Aaron? She thought, and unintentionally bespoke him. She'd made up her mind not to read his mind. It was a sort of respect she gave people. But the sheer curiosity of her being able to home in on his consciousness specifically was. . .Unsettling, seeing as she hadn't saw him since. . .Since Friday died.

Outwardly, Katy's eyes had widened to this discovery, and everybody in the room heard her mindspeak. Her powers had increased greatly ever since Brain had taken over, and her control was still a bit rusty. Psy-Witch never much cared for precision, only flashy, 'fun' moves.

"It seems I'm not the only who's had an increase in power," Lucas remarked, now hearing Katy's mind-voice vividly.

Realizing that Aaron meant Aaron Tanaka, business rival and friend, he turned to Katy.

"Do you know where Aaron is?"

Re: Dragon and Tiger

Mirage let a small smile play across her lips.  She remembered dealing with Brain and that small victory was even sweeter if he had been the one to twist Katy into Psy-Witch.  Mirage was rarely less than ruthless when it came to punishing those who would harm women.  It was driven more from her own personal experiences than anything else.

"What is happening with Aaron, Katy?" she asked.  Knowing that Katy would feel bad about what she did as Psy-Witch, she would feel even worse if something were to happen to Aaron Tanaka.  Katy had seemed so happy with him.  "Is he in danger?"

Re: Dragon and Tiger

Katy sighed at the mention of an increase in power. "Brain had me addicted to Blood. I'm afraid I'm still...addicted, but I've been off of the stuff for about two weeks. It gave me a tremendous boost in power while I was Psy-Witch.....but a lack of control, too. We'll see if I still have this level of power in a couple of weeks."

Then she suddenly remembered the mental shout. "He's fine, but it's like I have a connection with him, almost. It's like part of me keeps mental tabs on him." She paused, "And...I never really mentioned to him that I was psychic. It's not something you usually talk about on the first few dates."

Deliberately, Katy heaved herself up to a standing position. "I've got to go see Aaron. I have to explain several things to him. Lucas, you wouldn't happen to have an extra shirt I could borrow, do you? I'd fake it, but an illusion doesn't really warm you that much." Katy took a step forward, just barely maintaining her balance. Her hand flew up to her forehead, "You wouldn't happen to have some aspirin, either, would you? I have a killer headache."

"Easy, Katy....easy..." Lucas said softly, helping Katy to steady herself.

He left for a brief moment, then returned with a spare shirt and a couple of aspirin, and handed them both to her.

"Here you are, Katy. When you see Aaron, tell him that there are some people, including myself, who are worried about him. I went by his dojo not too long ago, and the place was eerily quiet, as if no one had been there in months."

At the mention of the psychic link, Mirage stole a glance over at Dragon Fist.  She knew that there was some sort of link between them, her pulling him into Katy's mind was proof enough of that.

Lucas noticed Mirage's glance, but said nothing at the moment as he helped Katy with the aspirin.

"While Aaron and I are friends....and business rivals...there's very little I know about him beyond what he does at the dojo. Perhaps it was my mistake for not being enough of a friend to him."

As Mirage, Lucas, and Katy conversed, a white light soon immersed around the mystic martial artist.

He had no time to be shocked....and in an instant, there was no trace of him.

Re: Dragon and Tiger

Katy put the shirt on over the tank-top she was wearing, taking deliberate care not to move to quickly. The last thing she needed was to fall over again. Accepting the aspirin and water with a thankful nod to Lucas, she downed the pill and half the contents of the glass. Setting the glass down on the desk, she smiled at Lucas.

"There's no way you could've..."
She started to say. Then a bright light engulfed him, and when it faded....he was gone. Katy's hand was already glowing with a bright blue force.....strange, given the fact that her normal psychic aura was purple, and under Brain's influence it had been black. But seeing that it was only her and Helena now, the glow faded. The power was not of evil origin, and Katy or Helena would've probably sensed if he were in danger.

She waited for a moment or two, then said, "I didn't mean for any of this to happen, you know." Katy said, "The Psy-Witch thing, I mean." She waited for her former master to say something. When Katy was only beginning to figure out the limits of her power, Helena had stepped in and helped her hone it. Not only that, but Helena became like a second mother figure. A snarky, sarcastic, funny one at that, but still someone Katy could look up to. Someone who was trying to make the most of her abilities, to make a difference.

Re: Dragon and Tiger

Mirage reached out for Lucas as the light engulfed him but she managed to grab only air as the man vanished.  That was not an ability that she'd seen Lucas use before and it was more likely that someone or something had spirited him away.

She was frowning at the spot where Lucas had been standing when Katy started to speak again.

"We've all had our bad days, Katy darling." Mirage gave her protege a smile.  It would have been pretty hypocritical of her to blame Katy for all that she'd done while under Brains influence.  Mirage had her moments that she was not proud of.  "I don't hold it against you.  I know how powerful Brain was, and just how twisted he could be.  It's just one more reason why I'm glad he won't be coming back."

Anyone who would play with a womans mind like Brain had, twisting her into something evil and perverse, was someone that Mirage was more than happy to get rid of.  She was only sorry that she couldn't kick his ass again for what he had done to Katy.

She reached out her hands to take Katy's and gave them a fond squeeze.  "I'm glad you're back.  Psy-Witch had terrible taste in clothing."

Re: Dragon and Tiger

Katy smiled back as Mirage did, and stared down at her hands as Helena took them in hers, only the slightest bit of pressure conveying how close the two actually were. She gave a small chuckle. It was just like Helena to joke right after she had screwed up. It let Katy know that Mirage was no longer angry, and it made her feel better. Not even 10 minutes ago Mirage was threatening her life, and now was smiling down at her, exactly like she did when she was teaching Katy how to control her powers.

"I never really did like the big clothing," Katy quipped back, "Too bulky." She paused, looking up at Mirage. "And Mirage? Thank you." And then, Katy spread her arms and embraced her. "For everything you've done for me."

Re: Dragon and Tiger

Mirage returned the hug and smiled.  It might be out of character for her to show such emotion but Katy, like Lucas, was in that special category of person that Mirage felt comfortable enough to put on displays such as this.  Katy was more like a little sister, one who she had spent a great deal of time teaching to use her own considerable powers.  There was a closeness, a bond, that not even Katy turning into Psy-Witch could completely erase.

"You are more than welcome, Katy dear." Mirage said fondly, letting their hug linger.

Lucas soon arrived at the back entrance of the dojo, just in time to see Mirage and Katy hugging. A smile briefly came across his face.

"Well....I'm glad to see that you two have made up...sort of."

Lucas arced an eyebrow and smirked.

"Well...the thought had crossed my mind....but I'll save my disappointment for another time."

He then sat down, and looked at both of them. Lucas seemed to be very well-rested...moreso than he had been.

"I've got some wild stories to tell you."

Oswald appeared in the alley behind the dojo, and came walking out from behind it like it was perfectly ordinary for an elderly gentleman to have been in said alleyway in the first place. He entered the Dojo if it was unlocked, or knocked on the door and waited for someone to open it if it wasn't.

Once inside, he said, "Hello again, Lucas. I do hope I'm not interrupting anything. However, the thing Mr. Black wished to talk about in private has brought to light some rather... disturbing information."

Lucas heard a knock at the door and promptly answered. "Ladies....I'll be right back..."

Seeing the elder Gysbourne at the door, he made his way there. "Hello Mr. Gysbourne....please come in..." he said as he opened the door for the long-lived Sage.

Once inside, and once Oswald had mentioned "disturbing information" from Mr. Black, Lucas nodded and began to listen intently.

"All right, Mr. Gysbourne....I'm listening..."

Oswald nodded, "I'll get right to the point, as I'm afraid we haven't time to beat around the bush. We are, it seems, on the brink of annihilation. An ancient being known as Konnish has slipped its bonds, and is coming here to finish what it started eons ago. One way or another, Konnish's victory would mean the end of life as we know it. We will need you, Lucas, as the Champion of Light, to stand against the coming darkness. I will not lie, it will NOT be easy, and there are likely to be casualties on our side. Indeed, the last time he was here, an entire civilization was destroyed. But you will not stand alone. Our foe plans nothing less than the domination or possible destruction of all life on this planet. We will have no shortage of allies."

Oswald chuckled, "I'm glad you feel that way. Tell me, Mister Martinez, have I introduced you to Ju-Long yet? He is an old friend of mine, and a former Champion of Light. He and I had a few adventures, back in the day. Anyway, I believe he'll be working with us on this, as will quite a few others. Hopefully we can do some preventing, rather than simply reacting. If he gets through... if the legends are to be believed, Konnish makes Ahriman look like a tame kitten."
