Re: Dragon and Tiger

Ozzy nodded, "In my heart, I know I am. My head keeps worrying about stupid stuff. Probably because I've been worrying all day. Heh, I didn't tell you yet, did I, Lucas? I've actually got a date tonight. Just a girl from school, just going to the movies, but... eh, I kinda can't shake being nervous. That's why I'm here a little early. I figured I could get changed and try to focus a bit before the test. It was a near thing, though. I had to get a shower before I came here. Did they tell you about the vampire hunting thing? The one Meg and I got got kinda... squirty, and I'll leave it at that. So glad I wasn't staking him, and that I was following Vampire Hunter Rule #3. Always keep your mouth closed. Drinking the blood is what turns you."

Andy grinned, morphing once more as he half spread his wings, then slid his hand (talons retracted to nails) into Vic's.  He gently bapped Ozzy on the shoulder as he said "Good luck, Ozzy.  I'd take lessons, but I don't trust my own reflexes.  Watch them while YOU spar too."

"Thanks, you too. And yeah, definitely, Andy. Fortunately, I don't have any claws to worry about. I should be all right," said Ozzy, smiling and bowing to the pair as they prepared to depart.

Re: Dragon and Tiger

Lucas couldn't help but chuckle slightly at Ozzy's "predicament." He remembered his days as a teenager, going through (and STILL going through) the awkward ritual of dating.

"Very good Ozzy. And don't worry...you'll be fine. You know something? I know that you would treat her with the dignity and respect that she deserves. And that to me ensures that you both will have a good time."

He smiled for a moment, then put his hand on his student's shoulder in a reassuring manner.

"All right...go ahead and get yourself prepared...physically and mentally. Focus your mind, body and spirit, so that nothing distracts you. So that you see and feel nothing...except your own energy, and your vision of your goal."

Re: Dragon and Tiger

Ozzy nodded, "Of course, Lucas. And thank you, Sensei, for your vote of confidence."

With that, he proceeded to the changing area, getting into his gi and out of his street clothes. As was his habit, he left his bag in the appropriate spot, with Tats hiding behind it so that Ozzy could keep his vigil over the Tome of Orthos without having to be physically present. After all, there was nothing preventing certain parties from 'porting into that room while he was in class and taking the Tome. Lucas had been informed, of course, so that there wouldn't be too many questions from Lucas if Ozzy suddenly darted towards the changing area in the middle of class.

Once he was in his gi, Ozzy sat down with his legs crossed and his eyes closed, focusing his thoughts inward, attempting to calm his mind. He could do this, he knew he could, now he just had to convince himself of the fact. To calm himself, he pictured himself sitting alone, much as he was, in a vast, white plane of emptiness, completely silent save for the sound of his own breathing. He sat like that for a few minutes, letting the serenity of his mental image flow through him. Once his mind was still, he took Lucas' advice to heart, focusing on his goal. Rather than simply the next belt, Ozzy looked ahead to his true goal in this class, achieving true proficiency with the style. The belts were only tokens, symbols of what he'd learned. If he were to simply be satisfied with colored cloth belts, then both he and Lucas were wasting their time.

Re: Dragon and Tiger

Lucas soon came out in his gi as well, which had a white top with a yellow patch of the goju-ryu fist on his left, and black pants. He was barefoot as what befitted the tradition for the class. His belt was brown with several stripes on it. Not far away from his black belt. And he knew he would have to face his own rigorous test to gain passage to his next belt level.

But with what he had been taught by Kimeran, there was no belt for that. Just the knowledge of the elements, which was a very powerful thing indeed.

Soon the students began to file into the dojo, each of them getting changed, ready for the stretches that signified the beginning of class. And all of them eagerly anticipating Ozzy's belt test.

Re: Dragon and Tiger

Ozzy stood as the others entered to get changed, a look of determination on his face. He nodded to acknowledge his classmates if they greeted him, but did not speak as he was clearly 'in the zone', and not in the speaking mood. He went out onto the mat, getting into his usual spot in preparation for the beginning of class, focusing on Lucas and the task at hand.

That is, until the door opened once more, and in walked a mother and her young daughter. To Lucas, they would both be unfamiliar, though there was a certain family resemblance to Ozzy.

"Ozzy? Honey?" said Gina, being cautious about where she stood, clearly not wanting to get on the mat or disturb anyone.

Ozzy turned around, looking somewhat surprised.

"Mom? Squirt? What... what're you guys doing here?"

Michaela, the little girl, smiled and called, "Hey, Ozzy! Grampa told Mommy you were havin' a test today! But where's all the desks, an' the papers an' stuff?"

"So...looks like you have some spectators for your test," he said grinning.

Ozzy smirked, "Heh, I should've known. Well, glad to have you. I guess Michael's not coming, eh?"

At that, Gina looked a little sad, and just shook her head.

"N... No. You know how your father is, and how he feels about... well, about you. But, Ozzy, he's still your father, even if the two of you aren't getting along."

Ozzy just shrugged, "Figures. Eh, whatever. At least you're here, Mom. You too, Squirt. Good to see you. Lucas sensei, this is my mother, Gina Gysbourne, and my little sister, Michaela. I believe you haven't met them yet. Mom, sis, this is one of my martial arts instructors, Lucas Martinez. I don't think Flip sensei is here, is he? Flip is the senior teacher here, and the one that offered me that first lesson a while back."

Gina smiled, "It's good to meet you, Mr. Martinez. Thank you for your patience with Ozzy, I know he's a bit of a handful sometimes."

It was then that Michaela piped up, "Daddy says he's a delinquent. Of course, Daddy doesn't like Ozzy, 'cause Ozzy's a superhero!"

Flip soon came out, dressed in an all black gi.

"Hello Mrs. Gysbourne. Its a pleasure to meet you. Ozzy has been an exceptional student, plus he reminds of a certain someone I knew," he said, gesturing towards Lucas.

Lucas nodded. "Ozzy has been a great student, and its good to see him sticking with this. Truly this is a milestone for him."

Gina smiled, nodding, "I'm glad. He got into a lot of trouble before, when he wasn't working with the doctors at the hospital or staying with his grandfather. We tried, but he's a rather... spirited young man, as I'm sure you've seen. I always thanked God he never got into a gang, or started doing drugs or something."

Ozzy rolled his eyes, smiling, "Hey, gimme some credit, Mom. I'm straight-edge, you know that. Hey, Flip-sensei. Yeah, this is my Mom and little sister."

"Hello, Mr. Flip. I'm Michaela! So, can Ozzy break a board yet? Johnny Smith in my class says *his* big brother can break a board with his fist."

Flip chuckled at Micaela's enthusiasm. "We don't break boards in this class, Micaela, but rest assured, Ozzy will be able to do it if we did."

Lucas added "Ozzy has a good head on his shoulders. And that was even before he came to our dojo. It has been an immense pleasure to be a small part of his life journey."

Soon Flip called the class to line up as they began their stretches, as Lucas stood off to the side.

Michaela nodded, satisfied, "Okay! You're the expert, Mr. Flip..."

She looked like she had lots more questions, as kids that age often did, but her mother shushed her since it looked like class was about to begin. Ozzy, meanwhile, took his place among the other students, ready to warm up before the day's lesson really got started.

Once the stretching was done, then Lucas took over, and began to drill the class with several punches and kicks. Getting the class loosened up so they could begin to work on some of the more advanced techniques that were part of the art.

Re: Dragon and Tiger

After the basic punches and kicks, Lucas then went into extensive practice of combinations. A combination reverse punch/kick and a double pump kick were on the agenda today.

He then went through and worked the class through this several times.

After a short rest, he called the class back into line.

"Today....we see the natural progression of one of our students as he grows out of the beginner stage and into the advanced stage. I ask that you give him the respect that he deserves as such, for he has learned much among us, and we have learned much from him as well. We have learned the spirit of determination, of hard work, and the simple adage of don't quit. And now, it is with great pleasure that Ozzy Gysbourne now begins to utilize the knowledge that he has been given, and shows us that knowledge now."

The class soon sat down at all sides of the workout area, giving Ozzy enough room to show his form.

"It's all yours Ozzy....make us proud..." Lucas said as he stood off to the side of the mat, watching intently.

Re: Dragon and Tiger

Ozzy had taken to the new moves with his usual quickness, his skating skills and his hard work in the class paying off once again. When it was time for his test, Ozzy took his place in the center of the mat, bowing to the instructors and the class before beginning his kata. He started off taking the basic stance, before going into the moves of the kata, giving ki-ai shouts at the appropriate times. With the precision and fluidity with which they were done, it was obvious he'd put a lot of effort into his training.

When he was done with his kata, he bowed to the instructors and the class once more, before resuming a resting position, awaiting the judgement of his instructors.

Gina and Michaela were both already clapping, thinking that he'd done a good job.

Re: Dragon and Tiger

Lucas had observed Ozzy's technique all throughout the kata. He had performed exceptionally well. It was very obvious that Ozzy had put a lot of effort into training, and it showed.

As he finished the kata and bowed to the class, and as the premature applause came from the Gysbourne family, Lucas joined in the applause, glad to see that his student and friend was coming along nicely in his training.

Lucas then got out what appeared to be a wooden case and he then stepped onto the mat. He then opened up the case, and presented forth a green belt to all those who were assembled.

"Ozzy Gysbourne....you have earned the right to ascend to Green Belt in the art of Goju-Ryu Karate."

He paused for a moment.

"This belt...is more than just an article of clothing. More than something to keep your pants. This belt is a symbol of accomplishment, and it also carries with it a certain responsibility. A responsibility to use wise judgement as to when to use and when not to use the skills that you have learned."

He then gestured Ozzy to come forward, to receive his newly acquired Green Belt.

Flip, Lucas, and the rest of the class started to applaud when Ozzy accepted the belt. Truly Ozzy had come a long way, and he was certain that Ozzy's journey was not complete. Not by a longshot.

Lucas then bowed at Ozzy, then motioned for the class to line up in a circle around Ozzy. They all faced him, and then bowed to him.

"Good job Ozzy.." Lucas said as he bowed at him, also giving him a ceremonial salute as well.

After a few of his classmates gave him words of congratulations, they then began to change back into their street clothes.

Ozzy was much more friendly now that the test was over, chatting a bit with his classmates as they got changed back into their street clothes. He came back out with a grin on his face, walking over to his family and saying, "Thanks, guys. I suppose Grandpa told you about the other big thing happening today."

Gina nodded, "Indeed he did. I can't believe you didn't call me and tell me yourself!"

Ozzy smiled sheepishly, "Heh... sorry, Mom. It was kinda sudden, you know? Kinda slipped my mind."

Gina sighed, "I suppose you're right, what with... well, I'm sure you heard Michaela earlier"

She then turned to the little girl and said, "You need to keep quiet about that, remember? It's supposed to be a secret."

Michaela clapped her hands to her mouth, "Oh no! I gave away your secret identity, big brother!"

Ozzy just sighed, facepalmed, and said, "Eh, it's fine, sis. Lucas knows. We were talking about... well, what happened with Michael, and it kind of came up."
