Re: Dragon and Tiger

Flip smiled and replied, "Yeah...I had a student like that once. He's actually the co-owner of this dojo...Lucas Martinez. Given time and training, they develop into exceptional adults. I would introduce you to Lucas, but he's not here at the moment. But you'll meet him soon. I promise..."

Michael chuckled softly, "Oh, I have no doubt Ozzy will be an exceptional man one day. I've known ever since he got out of his wheelchair when he was little that he was something special, and not just the "Oh my kid is the best kid in the world" special."

Ozzy returned, wearing the gi and white belt that Flip had handed him. A broad grin crossed his face, and even the way he stood indicated that he was both excited and nervous.

"Arright! I'm ready to rock, teach!" he said, tossing his backpack towards his father, who caught it with his free hand.

Michael took a seat at a convenient place where he could watch what was going on, smiling with pride.

Ozzy took a place as requested, and started doing jumping jacks. Fortunately for him, skating all the way here had him pretty warmed up, so forty jumping jacks was nothing.

Flip nodded.

"All right good...now practice your cat stance..."

He demonstrated the cat stance. Keeping the ball of the front of the feet on the floor, with the back of the foot off of the floor.

"All right...30 seconds...cat stance...GO!"

Once again, it seemed that his time on roller blades would pay off. Ozzy raised his heels off the floor, standing on the balls of his feet, and bent his knees and back out of habit. It was a little off of what Flip had shown, but he was still well balanced, and it looked like he could hold it for a little while.

After going through various stances, including the Horse stance, Flip then stood in front of the class with his legs slightly apart.

"All right...we're going to practice combinations...we'll start off with two reverse punches followed by a high front kick. Newer students, don't stretch yourself beyond your means. The flexibility will come in time. All right...begin..."

Flip then did the combination, then beckoned the rest of the class to do the same...

Re: Dragon and Tiger

Ozzy started the combo off slow at first, just like any other newbie, but once he had how the punches and kick were supposed to go down, he started letting himself go as far as he could. Skating had, once again, probably given him an advantage over a raw newbie who hadn't done any sports before. With all the interesting positions that vert tricks required, Ozzy was already fairly flexible. Still, he couldn't help but push himself just a little, knowing that that would be the only way he could get any better.

Flip nodded, especially impressed by Ozzy's progress.

"OK...you guys have done good. All right...we're going to break off in to two groups of seven...we're going to practice some advanced manuevers...newer students...if you feel inclined to try some of these, feel free...just be careful..."

Flip then took two steps forward, then spun around ending the spin in a leaping kick.

"All right...you guys try..."

Ozzy joined one of the groups, grinning. After letting a few of the more advanced students go, Ozzy stepped into the circle they'd made, saying, "Arright, guys, this one'll be easy. Step back, an' let the noob show you he's got flow."

The other students smirked, but cleared some extra space, in case that the new kid was all talk and no walk. Ozzy just chuckled and took two steps, talking himself through the move.

"Barrel roll... he said as he spun around and jumped, "With an Ollie 360!", throwing a kick that was a decent imitation of what Flip had shown, especially for a newbie. He stuck the landing and grinned, before resuming his place to watch the others give it a shot.

Re: Dragon and Tiger

Flip went through several more manuevers with them...a three punch combination... a jumping spring kick...and then a drill on pump kicks.

Impressed with some of the newcomers' performances, especially Ozzy's, Flip then said, "All right...we're going to break off and work on your forms. Those of you who feel that you have mastered your form, tell me and we'll evaluate your progress to see if you're ready for the next stripes on your belt."

Looking to Ozzy, he then said, "Ozzy...the way you advance in the class is by learning forms...forms are a systematic movement which not only simulates some of the movements in the martial arts...but mastery of them as well. We go through several different steps of the form each week until you're able to bring it all together. Once that's done, then you can demonstrate the entire form and you will earn the first stripes on your white belt. Are you ready?"

Ozzy moved through the other maneuvers in much the same manner, giving the moves everything he had. He'd never been one for doing things halfway, and it seemed he had the coordination and skill already to do well in the class.

When Flip explained how advancing worked, Ozzy nodded, "Got it, sir. Show me what I need to do," a grin crossing his face.

Flip then began going through a series of movements, including several hand movements, followed by several upward blocks, then ending up with a reverse punch with a KIAI attached...

"Let's start off with that, Ozzy..."

Ozzy nodded, paying strict attention to the partial form that Flip showed him. When Flip was done, Ozzy did his best to copy it. While his form wasn't perfect, it definitely seemed that he had that first bit down pat, and with some practice, could definitely get it right.

Re: Dragon and Tiger

Flip noticed the students working on their forms were starting to wrap things up. With that, he told the class to line up. They then all saluted and bowed, and Flip also saluted and bowed as well. Then the class broke off into their individual groups. A few of the students came up and talked with Ozzy briefly, remarking on his excellent progress, even for a beginner.

As the class broke up, Flip came to Ozzy and also motioned for Mr. Gysbourne to come over as well.

"Mr. Gysbourne...I have to say that Ozzy here has the fundamentals of the class well in hand...I would be glad to have him as part of the class on an ongoing basis. Now, there is a monthly fee of $40...but that covers the gi and any equipment Ozzy might need such as hand pads. So...that's my two cents. But it's ultimately up to you two. What do you say?"

Ozzy chatted with the other students a bit, smirking and telling them that if they thought that was cool, they should check out his Facebook.

When Flip asked if he'd like to join as a regular thing, Ozzy nodded, "Yeah, I'd like to do this. I had a lot of fun, and I think that learning martial arts could be pretty handy. With all these parahumans running around causing trouble, I might end up needing it! Legacy can't be everywhere at once, after all."

Michael nodded, and pulled out his wallet. He produced a pair of twenty dollar bills, and handed them to Flip.

"Then it's settled," he said, smiling. "How often are classes?"

Flip smiled.

"Welcome aboard Ozzy. I'm very happy you've decided to stick with this. I hope to introduce you to Lucas at some point. It seems that young man gets busier and busier with each passing day."

Accepting the money from Mr. Gysbourne, Flip then added, "I appreciate the faith sir. Martial arts isn't for everyone...but I have to say that in my years of teaching...I've never seen anybody take to them as much as Ozzy here. The only other young man I've known to do that is Lucas Martinez. Anyways, classes are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Lucas usually teaches the morning classes, and I take the afternoons. We switch now and again since Lucas has other obligations besides the dojo but he's very dependable."

Offering a handshake, he then said, "Mr. Gysbourne...Ozzy...it's a pleasure to meet your acquantince...and I certainly hope to see more of you."

"Well, I'm afraid I'm guilty of being too busy for my own good, myself. I'm a lawyer, and sometimes things get crazy at the office. Still, you might see me every now and again." replied Mr. Gysbourne. He then turned to his son.

"Well, Ozzy, we'll see you tomorrow. Have fun at your uncle's, but not too much fun, okay?"

Ozzy nodded and waved goodbye to his dad before turning back to Flip.

"Arright, Sensei, I'm gonna get changed and then get outta your hair. Thanks for the lesson! I enjoyed it, and I can't wait for the next one. See ya later!" he said before dashing into the changing room. Soon enough, he was back in his street gear, ready to tear up some pavement on his way up to the registration office.

>>>>>>>>>>From The Supers Registration Office>>>>>>>>>

Lucas arrived back at the dojo. As he walked inside he saw Flip working out, going th It looked like Flip had just wrapped up the afternoon class, as it appeared no one else was at the dojo.

"Hey Lucas....I see you've been keeping busy..."

"Hey Flip...yeah things have been kinda hectic...look, there's something I need to tell you. It's about my frequent absences..."

Flip looed puzzled for a moment. "All right Lucas...what's on your mind?"

Lucas looked down for a moment. "Well...I've had some activities outside of the dojo that have kept me busy...and it's because I'm Dr--..."

"You're Dragon Fist? Son, I've known that for a LONG time..."

"But how did you..."

"Son...martial arts fighting styles are like fingerprints...they're unique to each individual...I saw Dragon Fist in action once...and I recognized one of the combinations that I taught you. Wasn't too hard to figure out after that..."

"Well...I'm glad you know...but listen...there might be some bad stuff coming down the pipe because of Dragon Fist...some powerful enemies are making a serious play for power..."

"Oh you mean like that gang that tried to take over the city? Whatever...you guys dealt with them...and I'm sure that you'll deal with whatever's coming at you now....Look I'm heading home...take care of yourself Lucas..and I'll see you soon. And please be careful.."

Flip then exited the dojo, and Lucas was there all alone. He REALLY needed to think...about a lot of things. He then went into a kneeling stance and began to meditate...hoping to center his mind in the ever-growing whirlpool of chaos that surrounded him.

Re: Dragon and Tiger

Lucas got up after meditating. He was centered...both mentally and physically, and as ready as he could be to deal with all of the crises that were happening in his life: the arrest of Hunter, the emergence of the Bertellis as a new power with these weapons, the re-emergence of the Dark Champion, the possible schisms in the Legacy, the Superhuman Registration Act and the emergence of the New Age Defenders. And on a personal level, he REALLY missed Friday. Friday also knew more or less everything about where Lucas had been in his life's journey. Even with what happened to Hunter had weighed on him immensely.

Wherever you are, I hope you are well Friday...please come back to me...

A part of him looked forward to his meeting with Mirage. Perhaps it was time to level with her on some of the things that were troubling him...and also bring the femme fatale on some of his secrets as well. After all, he and Helena were good friends, but how much did they know about each other, really?

But that would have to wait. Right now, there were things to do. He really didn't want to butt into the New Age Defenders plans, but perhaps they needed some help in dealing with some of the things that they were going to be facing against.

Summoning his armor when he was still in the dojo, he went out the back entrance, making sure no one was looking and took to the air...

Mirage slowly sat up, stretching.  She wasn't sure how long she'd been out for but at least she didn't seem quite so tired anymore.  A power nap had done quite a bit of good.

It was time to get back to work.  There were still weapons to destroy and, if she was lucky, a few heads to crack.

Dragon Fist landed with Meg. Setting her down gently, he then looked around for a moment. Seeing that no one else was present, he then retracted his armor...revealing the form of Lucas Martinez.

"I don't know if you remembered when I talked with you guys at the Registration Office...but I'm Lucas....."

He then unlocked the front door of the dojo and led her inside to the office in back.

"Have a seat...can I get you anything...bottled water?"

Re: Dragon and Tiger

Lucas got a bottled water for her, and then sat down at the desk across from her. He sighed for a moment before he began.

"To understand this story, you would need to understand about me. So here goes...There was a young man named Lucas Martinez," he says pointing at himself. "I lived in a relatively loving home growing up with both parents, myself and my younger brother. I did however...get bullied a lot when I was in junior high and high school, so my Dad took me to a local dojo to learn karate."

He then took a deep breath, "I took to karate fairly quickly, and my sensei was surprised..and pleased, at my progress in my class. I learned a lot, not only karate but philosophy as well. Then there was one fateful day..." he put his face in his hands for a brief moment "...I was practicing some breathing exercises along with my brother, when we were approached by a couple of football players. They began to ridicule me, and my brother talked back to them. I tried to get my younger brother to stop...but he was younger than I was... and bull-headed. Well, one of the football players slapped him, giving him a bloody nose. At that time, I...just reacted. I came up to him...and," he bowed his head, "kicked him in the knee, once in the gut, and then...in the face...and he fell unconscious. He pulled through, what with a few broken ribs and all, but I could have killed him because I did not discipline myself. I live with that image, knowing that in losing control, I was a danger to myself and those around me."

"My Dad..threw me out of the house. He said that I had gotten dangerous. That I was a bad example for my brother. And who could blame him? So I went back to the dojo, unsure of what to do or where to go. When I arrived I found that my old sensei had passed on," he said, wiping away a tear, "and a new teacher came to fill his position, and he was one who would become a great influence in my life...Gene "Flip" Owen. He was a world caliber karate champion, but also a world class teacher and person. He let me stay in the dojo while I got myself back on my feet, and I excelled to my brown belt under his tutelage. He was also a good friend and really helped me a lot. The philosopy teachings that my old sensei started with me...he helped to bring all that together and really helped me to straighten my life out."

Lucas stopped for a moment, then told Meg, "I warn you now, the next part of this story may be...unsettling. After class one night, I went out to get some things for Flip, when this dark figure came out and challenged me. He was completely obscured, I couldn't even see his face. I didn't know why at the time, but he began to come at me with everything he had. Naturally, I attempted to defend myself, but he was strong, fast...and decisive in his strikes. I couldn't land anything solid on him. After getting me to overextend myself, he took his hand, reached into my chest and....pulled out my still-beating heart from it." Shaking for a moment, as if from a long-forgotten chill, continuing, "It was at that time that I knew I was going to die, and I didn't know why. He stooped over me and watched the life ebb away from my body, and then turned and walked away. Then things went black..."

"I was surprised to wake up. When I came to, I thought I had gone to heaven, because I was in a lush paradise, like nothing on this earth. I reflected back on some of the legends my first sensei told me about, and came to determine that this had to be Shambala...or what's commonly known as Shangri-La. It was a place of utmost peace and perfection...except for the fact that I was there. I got up, and I felt for my chest where my heart would have been but there was nothing there, just the gaping void of where it had once been. It was very...unsettling as i found out that my heart had been ripped out by the assassin. It was then I was approached by an old man who called himself Tao."

"He told me that he was the Guardian of Balance in the universe, and that the Champion of Darkness that killed me was a reaction to the scales of Balance being tipped in evil's favor. So, a Champion of Good would need to be created to offset this new evil, and balance the scales. I don't know what came over me, but I knew that I had to oppose this person. A big part of it was selfish at first, I admit that. I really wanted revenge. But I also wanted to do the right thing, and protect the world from this evil that had slain me, and to fight for those who couldn't fight for themselves. So I told him yes..."

"Tao gestured briefly in his hands, and within seconds, a heart of metal was in my chest, which would fulfill the same functions as my human heart would have. It was then that he told me with putting my fist to this heart, that I would summon the power of The Dragon, and I would choose the form of which the power of the Dragon would come forth. As I thought about my art and the symbol of Goju-Ryu, which is the fist, and I thought of armor...and a set of armor came over me. I looked in one of the pools of water, and I was armored as Dragon Fist, surging with power. The sensation was amazing! Now, I could actually make a difference in the world instead of just talking about it."

"It was then that Tao had given me these tenets: oppose the Dark Champion whenever possible, protect the weak and the innocent, and do not abuse the power. He then opened a portal and told me to go into the world and help make it a better place. I leaped through the portal, and things are as they say..history."

"In the time afterward, I have fought crime, corruption and even the Dark Champion himself on a couple of different occassions. He and I are destined to oppose each other...if the Balance isn't kept...something bad could happen...I had the opportunity to kill him once...but I am not a murderer..."

He then ran his fingers through his hair, then looked at Meg. "There you have it..."
