Re: The rooftops

"It may be a good idea to do some research on the armor, or at least find out the history behind. Magic usually chooses people for a very good reason...rarely, if at all, does magic ever mistakes," Dragon Fist said reassuringly. "I have some friends that may be able to help you find out more as well, and they are superbly skilled in the arcane arts. But, I'll leave that decision to you."

Re: The rooftops

Psyche smiled at Knight Errant's last sentence. She was skilled in cover stories, having had to manufacture story after story to cover up where she was when she was undercover.

"You were conveniently having lunch with some new acquaintances," Psyche said, "And if they ask who, tell them a couple police officers wanted to speak to you, 'off the record.'"

Dragon Fist nodded at that.

"You'd better get back then," he said to Knight Errant. "If you need us, we won't be hard to find."

Dragon Fist waved at Knight Errant as he made his way through the access door.

Once he was gone, he then turned to Lady Psyche.

"You have my full undivided attention, Psyche. What's going on?"

Re: The rooftops

Psyche smiled as Knight Errant left, letting the mask dissolve into thin air, a previous facade of pleasantness overshadowed by an extreme frustration, with a hint of confusion as she brought the full effect of her piercing blue eyes to bare on Lucas.

"Like I said, I guess I have a daughter sometime in the near future and evidently marry Aaron. You didn't pick anything up on the name Vaan Tanaka when Meg contacted you? Don't get me wrong, I really like Aaron, and I could really see myself settling down with him, but...God, I hate time travel."

She took a deep breath, letting it out slowly.

"I haven't even told Aaron I'm psychic. I'm pretty sure he's got an idea, but I haven't really been forthcoming in telling him. And I know there's something eating at him, too. Every time I try to tell him, or get him to tell me...well, we're getting pretty good at small talk."

Psyche broke her piercing gaze towards Lucas, instead looking out on the city. "I thought I could do this myself. Well, I guess it take a spanner in the works to tell me I can't."

Re: The rooftops

Dragon Fist walked next to his comrade in arms.

"Psyche....this is why we have to be careful when it comes to time travel. I know that this young lady says she's your daughter, and she may very well be right. God knows I've seen possible portents of my own future, and it scared the hell out of me. As for Aaron...let it all work itself out. Though I have noticed he has been a lot more intense lately....there actually was a time where he disappeared for a short while and then reappeared. I'd like to think that something didn't happen to him but.."

Re: The rooftops

"Yeah, Dragon Fist, I know. But most of your future selves usually pertain to life and death and the balance of light and dark. You realize I'm only an incredibly powerful psychic, right? Biggest future I can look forward to is hoping all the villains I've locked away never know who I am, and live happily ever after," Psyche said, rolling her eyes.

"This girl comes from a bad future. She sat down and told me her story. When you're a cop as long as I've been, you kinda become a walking lie detector, even without my Psyche. She was telling the truth."

She sighed. "What would you do in my position, Lucas? Finding out you had a kid in the future with someone you love? What would..." Friday "Helena do, you think?"

Re: The rooftops

"That's a question I never thought would be asked of me," Dragon Fist replied, looking off into the skyline. "If....if I were fortunate to....somehow...have children....I would love them without question....help them when they stumble...be there for them. But...it's something that I don't know if I'll ever be able to do....though I would like that. If it were me in your position, Psyche, I'd listen to her...get to know her....and she may indeed surprise you in many ways. A lot of them I think would be pleasant surprises."

Re: The rooftops

Psyche nodded. Even though she had intended to do so, she felt better knowing that Dragon Fist would try the same things she would, or rather hear him tell her. A little direction never hurt anyone. Even so...

"Thanks, Lucas...But there is one problem. I've got a career and a boyfriend who doesn't even know she exists. Mind keeping this between us? If you have to tell Helena, fine, but this needs to stay as quiet as possible. At least until I've told Aaron, at least," Psyche said, taking in the skyline as well.

Psyche then widened her consciousness for a fraction of a second, searching the city for someone specific.

"Speaking of Helena, where is she?"

Re: The rooftops

Psyche shrugged, continuing to look towards the skyline. "When I got out of the hospital after the fight wit Konnish, I've been trying to rebuild my life, not to mention cover my ass from just about every investigation I've been threatened with. Captain Jordan's got me babysitting a new officer who transferred in, who just HAPPENS to be the newest legacy member. I've tried to patch up things with Aaron, tell him my biggest secret, but every time I try he changes the subject...or I do. Add on top of that a timelost future daughter that I'll have to hide from Aaron for a while, and my stress level being so high that cigarettes are sounding like a good stress reliever. You realize I'd sworn off of those after my first year on the force?"

Psyche sighed, rubbing her temples. "I just...might need a little more help than I anticipated."

"Money really isn't an issue. Being a police officer may not pay much, but the health plans are amazing. That, and a few odd-jobs here and there help supplement my pay. You wouldn't believe how much you can make as a street-psychic. I'd just like a reprieve from all the crazy things Weston has to offer every now and again. That...and a little help telling Aaron the truth would help." Psyche replied.

"This Builder business....I believe it may be coming to a head. The man is a monster....a certifiable monster. What he and his men did to that young girl....simply repulsive."

"You're referring to the two young ones, Jack and Penny...Sushi bar? Weston has a Sushi Bar?" Psyche said, momentarily distracted, "And before you ask; No, I didn't go into their minds. I'm just getting a lot more powerful than I realized."

She paused for a moment, then spoke again in a remarkably pleasant voice, "Can I kill him when we storm his fortress? I'm assuming the New Age Defenders are calling in our help with this guy, right?"

Don't tell anyone, but I'm proud of those kids. Despite everything that's gone on, they're making a difference in the world.
She bespoke Lucas.

They are, Psyche bespoke him, But as I understand it, I made a less-than-favorable impression the last time I spoke to them. I have appearances to maintain. Her voice was colored with mild amusement as she spoke.

"I understand. It doesn't help that I've been...well, under for a couple months. And between you and me, Mirage has got something on her mind. You've got...stuff, and Don's got a family to maintain," she continued, taking a seat on the edge of the building.

"Lucas? Have you ever thought of settling down? Starting a family?"
She asked, looking down on the streets below, watching the normal people go about their lives.

Re: The rooftops

Dragon Fist looked back at Psyche. If his helmet had been off, she would have seen a rather perplexed look on his face, as if he didn't know how to answer the question.

He sighed for a moment.

"You know....with all that's happened to me..I never knew if or when family would be an option. Though I would like to. I know one of the former Champions....Nagah's Fang, the woman in the green costume who was present when we were fighting Konnish....she told me that she was able to eventually settle down and have a family. Maybe....somehow...I can too. I wouldn't mind, it's just....it seems like such a faraway dream at the moment."

Re: The rooftops

Katy cast a sideways glance at Dragon Fist, rolling her eyes.

"Lucas? A family's always gonna seem like a far-off, happy dream you get occasionally when things are doing okay. It's normal. Happens to everyone. You realize my parents were going through a financial crisis when I was born? Hospital bills heaping up, mom couldn't work, dad taking extra jobs to cover it and still coming up short." She told him.

"But you work through it. You find a way to make ends meet. Only problem with us is we're Paras. Our ends are larger than the average schmuck you meet on the street. We have to worry about other people, the fate of the galaxy, or world, or that girl who could blow up half the city with her mind. Hell, if I ever decide to have a kid, I guaran-damn-tee you I'd have to keep on my toes for any prevalence of psychic powers."

She chuckled slightly, "Those people down on the street? The biggest hindrance their family is to their lives is climbing up the social ladder." She pointed down, "That guy's wondering if his new promotion will put a dent in his marriage," She pointed to another, "She's pregnant, but her husband swore she didn't want kids."

"My point is, Lucas, a family is never convenient. It's always gonna seem like it'll never happen, or it's a long shot. But if I've learned anything from Don and his little Diantha, it's really is worth the extra effort."
