Re: The rooftops
The van speeds over a ramp, crashing into the drainage valleys and speeds down the concrete. The cars are a little more cautious but quickly give chase as they run down a service ramp. One speeding ahead to get infront of the van. The two cars behind start shooting.
"I don't care about the money. Get those damn gems back!"
The van swerves and shifts and general evades the bullets and buckshot from the pursuing cars, but soon damage is done. A large SUV plows into the driver side and the van crashes into a bridge support, wrapping most of the front half around the support. The gas tank explodes, engulfing the rest of the van in flames.
They quickly put the fire out and try to flee the scene just as the police show up to arrest them.
There's no body or anything else to recover other than a relatively stripped out van.

Even though it was effectively in him, the phone is answered. He's breathing heavily, obviously from running and there's the slightest drip drip sound. There's also a slight metalic echo from his voice. He's running in the sewer.
"You never call. You never write. What's up?"
Moving into the old maintenance hub he presses a hand against a wall and the mechanics within begin to shift and pop. Opening up to his little lair. Setting down his haul of gems he strips off his smelly clothing, chuckling softly to himself. Placing the amber gem somewhere secure while putting the cash in the hidden floor safe.
